He not only had a hit in each of the Flames’ five games, but collected three three-hit games during the week. • The Louisville transfer leads the Flames in batting average (.418), runs (19), home runs (3) and slugging percentage (.672). • 1B/C Alex Close went 3-for-4 with four RBIs in a 6-2 win over Kent State in game one of doubleheader, last Saturday. • Close also drove in five runs with three hits in a win over Rider, 3/2. • He leads the Flames with 20 RBIs and a .522 batting average with runners in scoring position. • Dalton Britt has spent time at both shortstop and third base this season for the Flames. The sophomore has started the last three games at shortstop. • Will Shepherd has started the last five games as Liberty’s right fielder. He had two hits and an RBI in Tuesday’s win at Elon. He struck out five batters. • RHP Ashton Perritt recorded his team-leading sixth save of the season, Tuesday at Elon. • LHP Jared Lyons allowed only two hits over seven innings in his first start of the year at Duke, 3/5. He struck out a career-high 10 batters in the contest. • The LHP followed that start up by allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings in win at Elon, Tuesday. • Lyons leads the Flames with 27 strikeouts. • LHP Shawn Clowers recorded the win in Liberty’s 8-2 victory in 11 innings at Duke, 3/5. Not only did he pitch two scoreless innings, but he also added an RBI single in his first collegiate at bat in the 11th inning. • Clowers gave Liberty a solid relief effort in his first appearance of the year against Ohio, 2/23. The LHP did not allow a run, scattering four hits over 4 2/3 innings. The Flames have only allowed 11 runs (1.83 runs per game) during the winning streak. • Liberty is hitting .294 and scoring an average of seven runs per game during its win streak. • Over their past 10 games, Liberty has hit .303 as team and outscored opponents, 6317. The Flames’ lone loss during the span was a 4-3 setback to Ball State on March 2. A Look Back at Elon • Liberty won its sixth straight game with a 4-2 win at Elon, Tuesday. • LHP Jared Lyons ran his record to 2-0, allowing two runs on five hits over seven innings. It is the second straight start that Lyons has pitched seven innings, a careerhigh. • RF Will Shepherd had two hits and a RBI for the Flames. • C Danny Grauer collected two hits and drove in two runs with a double. • RHP Ashton Perritt recorded his sixth save of the year, working out of a bases-loaded, one out jam in the ninth inning. A Look Back at Kent State • Liberty swept a three-game series against the Kent State Golden Flashes at Liberty Baseball Stadium, last weekend • The Flames swept a doubleheader on Saturday, 6-2 and 4-2, and won 9-1 on Sunday. • 1B Alex Close hit .500 with six RBIs and three doubles during the weekend. He had a hit in each game. In Saturday’s first game, Close went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. • RHP Trey Lambert moved to 3-1 on the year allowing two runs on six hits over sevenplus innings in the 6-2 game one win. • In the second game, RHP Parker Bean gave up two runs on five hits over a careerhigh eight innings in 4-2 victory. He also moves to 3-1. • RF Will Shepherd drove in 3B Dylan Allen with a double in the seventh inning to put Liberty in front for good in game two of the doubleheader, Saturday. • Sunday, RHP Carson Herndon extended his record to 2-1 on the season. He gave up one run on six hits over six innings. He struck out a career-high eight batters. Seiz Named NCBWA National Hitter, Conference Player of the Week • Liberty infielder Ryan Seiz was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers (NCBWA) National Hitter of the Week and selected the Big South Conference Player of the Week for the period ending March 2. • Seiz posted a .579 batting average, scoring six times and driving in five runs during five games, as Liberty recorded a 4-1 mark during the week. He not only had a hit in each of the Flames’ five games, but collected three three-hit games in his last four contests. • Seiz had three doubles and a triple and belted his third home of the season, March 2 to finish the week with a 1.000 slugging percentage. In addition, he posted a .609 on base percentage. Perritt Named to Preseason All-American Teams, Stopper Watch List • Outfielder/pitcher Ashton Perritt was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and the Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason All-American teams as a utility player (two-way player). • The reliever was listed among 50 pitchers on the 2014 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch list. The award goes annually to the top closer in college baseball. • Perritt was selected to the NCBWA’s second team and the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s third team.
