The Flames opened its home schedule by falling to Old Dominion, Feb. 18. • The Flames posted a 25-9 mark in their first season at the Liberty Baseball Stadium in 2013. • Liberty opened 2014 by playing eight of its first nine games on the road. • Liberty is 91-45 (.669) all-time in the month of February. The Flames are 35-16 (.686) under head coach Jim Toman. • SERIES WITH BALL STATE: Liberty and Ball State have met only one other time. In 1989, the two teams met in a three-game series at the former home of the Flames, Worthington Stadium. Ball State took two of the three games. • SERIES WITH RIDER: Saturday will be the eighth meeting between the Flames and the Broncs on the diamond. Liberty holds a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series. Six of the seven previous meetings came at Worthington Stadium. • The schedule for the Liberty Invitational has been changed due to weather with Liberty now hosting two games on Saturday and two on Sunday. Britt leads Liberty with four multi-hit games, including the first four-hit game of his career in Saturday’s 14-6 win over UNCW, this past Saturday. • RHP Ashton Perritt retired all six batters he faced in recording his team-high third save of the season, Tuesday. • On Saturday, Liberty posted season-highs in runs (14) and hits (17) in a 14-6 victory over host UNCW at the Battle of Beach. The home run was his second of the season. • Seiz collected three hits and drove in two runs against Old Dominion on Feb. 18. • The Louisville transfer leads the Flames in batting average (.355) and RBIs (8) • INF Dalton Britt drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning with his second single of the game, Tuesday. The LHP gave up one run on four hits over seven innings • Freshman OF/1B Andrew Yacyk collected three hits for the Flames in Tuesday’s victory over Missouri. It was the first three-hit game of his career. • In four starts this season, Yacyk has hit .467 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs. • Playing first base, Yacyk doubled, hit a home run and drove in three runs in his first collegiate start in victory over Ohio, last Saturday. • Later in the day, he collected two more hits, one an RBI double, in win over host UNCW • 1B/C Alex Close hit .429 during the Battle at the Beach tournament, this past weekend. • Close had three hits and two home runs, driving in three runs and scoring three runs in 14-6 victory over UNCW, Saturday. The home runs were the first of the season for Close. • OF Nick Lacik posted a career-high seven game hit streak, Feb. 14-Feb. 22. The hit streak is the longest for a Flame this season. • C/DH Danny Grauer doubled twice and plated three runs in Saturday’s win over UNCW. • On Sunday against Ohio, Grauer hit his second home run of the year against Ohio. • LHP Jared Lyons made two appearances this past weekend, pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings. Lyons leads the Flames with four appearances. •LHP Shawn Clowers gave Liberty a solid relief effort in his first appearance of the year, this past Sunday against Ohio. The LHP did not allow a run, scattering four hits over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter. • RHP Trey Lambert recorded his first win of 2014, last Saturday. Lambert allowed three runs on five hits over eight innings in win over UNCW. • RHP Parker Bean picked up his first collegiate victory, last Saturday in Liberty’s 8-5 win over Ohio. The freshman gave up five runs, three earned, on six hits over five innings. • 3B Dylan Allen posted the first multi-hit game of his collegiate career, Sunday against Ohio. Britt leads the Flames with four multiple-hit games. • LHP Blake Fulghum gave up one run on four hits over seven innings to record the win. • RHP Ashton Perritt retired all six batters he faced to seal the victory and earn his team-leading third save of the year. • OF Andrew Yacyk collected three hits for the Flames. It was the freshman’s first three-hit game of his career. A Look Back at the Battle of the Beach • Liberty posted a 2-2 record at the Battle at the Beach tournament in Wilmington, N.C., this last weekend. The Flames split a pair of games with both Ohio and UNCW. • 16 of Liberty’s 36 hits went for extra bases last weekend. The Flames belted five home runs and collected 10 doubles. • Liberty posted season-highs in runs (14) and hits (17) against UNCW in 14-6 victory, Saturday. • 1B/DH Ryan Seiz collected two hits, a home run and drove in three runs in Liberty’s 8-5 win over Ohio, Saturday. The home run was his second of the season. • Seiz hit back-to-back home runs with 1B Andrew Yacyk in the third inning of Saturday’s victory over Ohio. • Playing first base, Yacyk doubled, hit a home run and drove in three runs in his first collegiate start in victory over Ohio, Saturday. • Later in the day, he collected two more hits, one an RBI double, in win over host UNCW • 1B/C Alex Close hit .429 over the weekend. Close had three hits and two home runs, driving in three runs and scoring three runs in 14-6 victory over UNCW, Saturday. • INF Dalton Britt posted the first four-hit game of his career in win over UNCW, Saturday. He also scored twice and drove in a run. • Britt has started every Liberty game this season. He has started five games at third base and three at shortstop. He has recorded three multi-hit game this season. • C/DH Danny Grauer doubled twice and plated three runs in Saturday’s win over UNCW. • On Sunday against Ohio, Grauer hit his second home run of the year against Ohio. • LHP Jared Lyons made two appearances during the tournament, pitching 3 2/3 scoreless innings. Lyons leads the Flames with four appearances. • RHP Trey Lambert recorded his first win of 2014, Saturday. Lambert allowed three runs on five hits over eight innings in win over UNCW. • RHP Parker Bean picked up his first collegiate victory on Saturday in Liberty’s 8-5 win over Ohio. The freshman gave up five runs, three earned, on six hits over five innings. • 3B Dylan Allen posted his first multi-hit game of his collegiate career, Sunday against Ohio. Allen had two hits, a double and scored a run. Perritt Named to Preseason All-American Teams, Stopper Watch List • Outfielder/pitcher Ashton Perritt was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and the Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason All-American teams as an utility player (two-way player). • The reliever was listed among 50 pitchers on the 2014 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch list. The award goes annually to the top closer in college baseball. • Perritt was selected to the NCBWA’s second team and the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s third team. • He becomes Liberty’s second player to garner Preseason All-American honors from the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The paper selected Aaron Grijalva as a Preseason All-American at first base in 2008. Toman Guides Flames to Best Division I Mark Over First Six Years • With a .619 winning percentage, head coach Jim Toman’s Flames have posted the highest NCAA Division I winning percentage of any head coach during his first six years at Liberty. Toman has guided the Flames to a 223-137-1 during his tenure. • Liberty has posted 35 or more wins in five of its six seasons under Toman. • Toman guided the Flames to the program’s first Big South Championship since 2000 and Liberty’s first appearance in a NCAA Regional final last season.
