• The Flames dropped a 7-4 decision to Old Dominion in their last outing, Tuesday.
• 1B/DH Ryan Seiz has a hit in each Liberty game this season. Tuesday, he collected three
hits and drove in two RBIs against Old Dominion.
• Liberty went 1-2 last weekend at the UNF Best Bet Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. After
dropping its first two games of the tournament, Liberty took an 11-6 decision from Richmond
on Sunday for its first victory of 2014.
• The Flames banged out 16 hits and had seven players with two hits in their win, last Sunday.
LHP Jared Lyons recorded the victory with 31/3 innings of relief.
• RHP Ashton Perritt recorded his first save with two scoreless innings in the victory, last
Sunday. Perritt is currently on the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch list.
• Liberty returns six starting position players including its designated hitter and 11 pitchers
from last season’s 2013 Big South Championship team. In addition, the Flames return 15
lettermen.

• OF/P Ashton Perritt had four hits and stole a team-leading three bases last weekend at the
UNF Best Bet Tournament. He also recorded a save with two scoreless innings against
Richmond, this past Sunday.
• Perritt has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)
and the Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason All-American teams as
an utility player (two-way player).
• Perritt has also been listed among 50 pitchers on the 2014 NCBWA Stopper of the Year
Watch list.
• RHP/C/1B Danny Grauer was drafted in the 38th round by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2013
MLB Draft.
• Grauer hit a two-run home run in his first at bat of 2014 against North Florida, last Friday. He
led the Flames with seven home runs in 2013.
• INF Dalton Britt had at least one hit in all three of Liberty games last weekend (.417) and
collected two two-hit contests.
• Britt was named to the 2013 Big South All-Tournament team and started every game at
shortstop during his freshman season. This season, he has started three contests at third
base and one at shortstop.
• 1B/DH Ryan Seiz collected three hits and drove in two runs against Old Dominion, Tuesday.
• Seiz joined the Liberty roster after transferring from Louisville in 2013. Seiz has had a hit in
every game and leads the Flames in batting average and RBIs.
• Seiz belted his first home run as a Flame and scored three times in Liberty’s win over
Richmond, last Sunday.
• OF Nick Lacik had at least one hit in each of Liberty’s four games.
• Lacik hit . 417 and collected two two-hit games, last weekend.
• Jake Kimble and Nick Salisbury have split the starts at second base this season.
• LHP Blake Fulghum leads the Flames innings pitched entering the weekend.
• In Fulghum’s first start on Tuesday, he gave up four runs on eight hits over six innings
against Old Dominion.
• He pitched 4 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in his first appearance of the season against
USF, last Saturday.
• LHP Jared Lyons made two appearances this last weekend. He recorded the win in
Liberty’s win over Richmond, Sunday.
• Lyons appeared in 21 games in 2013, fashioning a 5-0 record with a 3.86 ERA.
• Freshmen Tray Roberts and Will Shepherd have both started in right field this season.
• Roberts has started three games in right field, while Shepherd started this past Sunday
against Richmond.
• Shepherd collected two hits and a RBI, scoring two runs in his first collegiate start against
Richmond.
• RHP Trey Lambert started opening day for the Flames and took the loss, last Friday.
• Last season, Lambert returns for his senior year, after leading Liberty and tying for the third
in the Big South with eight wins.
• He led the Flames in innings pitched (89.0) and complete games (three).
• In 15 starts, Lambert recorded an 8-3 mark with a 3.54 ERA.
• Freshman RHP Parker Bean allowed two runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings in his first

• Defending champion Liberty has been tabbed to finish
on top in the Big South Conference’s North Division
standings by the conference’s head coaches in the
league’s annual preseason poll.
• Coastal Carolina was chosen to finish the year as the
South Division’s top team.
• This season will be the second year of divisional play for
Big South teams. The 12-team conference will be split
into two six-team divisions with each team playing 27 Big
South games each.
• This season, the Big South Baseball Championship
will be played at the Winthrop Ballpark in Rock Hill, S.C.,
May 20-24. The conference champion will receive the
league’s automatic bid to a NCAA Regional.

• Liberty opened 2014 on the road at the UNF Tournament, posting a 1-2 record.
• The Flames finished 2013 with an 11-20 record away from Liberty.
• Of the Flames’ 31 road games, two were neutral site games. Both contests were during the
2013 NCAA Columbia, S.C. Regional, where Liberty defeated Clemson twice by scores of 8-3
and 3-1.

• Liberty opened its home schedule by falling to Old Dominion, Tuesday.
• The Flames posted a 25-9 mark in their first season at the Liberty Baseball Stadium in 2013.
• Liberty won its first Big South Baseball Championship since 2000 at its new facility. The
stadium served as the host site for the conference tournament.
• After 34 years of playing at Worthington Stadium, the Flames christened the new facility, with
a three-game sweep of Penn State, Feb. 23-24, and went on to win their first seven games at

• The Flames fell to Old Dominion, 7-4, at Liberty Baseball Stadium, Tuesday afternoon.
It was the home opener for Liberty.
• Liberty had 12 hits, but left 12 men on base in the game.
• DH Ryan Seiz had three hits and two RBIs in the contest.
• SS Clay Keranen recorded his first multi-hit game at Liberty with two hits. He also
scored a run.
• LHP Blake Fulghum had a solid outing. He gave up three runs on four hits over six
innings.
• The Flames made three errors, leading to two unearned runs.
Looking Back at UNF Tournament
• Liberty took the final game of its three games at the UNF Best Bet Tournament, this
past. The Flames banged out 16 hits in an 11-6 win over Richmond.
• Liberty had seven players have two hits apiece in Sunday’s victory. 1B Ryan Seiz
was one of the seven and hit his first home run of the season in the game. He also
scored three times.
• LHP Jared Lyons made two appearances this past weekend. He recorded the win in
Liberty’s win over Richmond, pitching 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
• OF/P Ashton Perritt had four hits and stole a team-leading three bases this past weekend. He also recorded his first save with two scoreless innings against Richmond.
• DH/C Danny Grauer hit a two-run home run in his first at bat of 2014 against North
Florida, 2/14.
• INF Dalton Britt had at least one hit in all three of Liberty games this past weekend,
hitting .417 and collected two two-hit contests.
• OF Nick Lacik also had at least one hit in each of Liberty’s three games this past
weekend. Lacik hit . 417 and collected two two-hit games (USF, Saturday and Richmond, Sunday).

Perritt Named to Preseason All-American Teams, Stopper Watch List
• Outfielder/pitcher Ashton Perritt was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and the Louisville
Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper
Preseason All-American teams as an utility player (two-way player).
• Perritt was selected to the NCBWA’s second team and the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s third team.
• This past Tuesday, he was listed among 50 pitchers on the 2014 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch list. The award goes annually
to the top closer in college baseball.
• He becomes Liberty’s second player to garner Preseason All-American honors from the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The paper
selected Aaron Grijalva as a Preseason All-American at first base in 2008.
2014 Flames Name Captains
• Four players were chosen as captain in a vote by the members of the 2014 Flames.
• Junior catcher/first baseman Alex Close, senior pitcher/catcher Danny Grauer, senior pitcher
Trey Lambert and junior pitcher/outfield elder Ashton Perritt were selected by their teammates to
serve as captains this season.
Flames Ranked No. 35 in CBN’s Fabulous 40
• Liberty were ranked No. 35 in The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s 2014 Fabulous 40 NCAA Division I preseason baseball poll.
• Liberty, which finished 36-29 overall in 2013, is one of two Big South teams ranked in the newspaper’s preseason poll. Coastal
Carolina is ranked No. 40.
• After capturing the Big South title and reaching the finals of the NCAA Columbia, S.C. Regional, the Flames were ranked 26th in the
final The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll of 2013.
Toman Guides Flames to Best Division I Mark Over First Six Years
• With a .619 winning percentage, head coach Jim Toman’s Flames have posted the
highest NCAA Division I winning percentage of any head coach during his first six years
at Liberty. Toman has guided the Flames to a 223-137-1 during his tenure.
• Liberty has posted 35 or more wins in five of its six seasons under Toman.
• Toman guided the Flames to the program’s first Big South Championship since 2000
and Liberty’s first appearance in a NCAA Regional final last season.
