Tuesday, he collected three hits and drove in two RBIs against Old Dominion. • Liberty went 1-2 last weekend at the UNF Best Bet Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. After dropping its first two games of the tournament, Liberty took an 11-6 decision from Richmond on Sunday for its first victory of 2014. • The Flames banged out 16 hits and had seven players with two hits in their win, last Sunday. LHP Jared Lyons recorded the victory with 31/3 innings of relief. • RHP Ashton Perritt recorded his first save with two scoreless innings in the victory, last Sunday. He also recorded a save with two scoreless innings against Richmond, this past Sunday. • Perritt has been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and the Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason All-American teams as an utility player (two-way player). • Perritt has also been listed among 50 pitchers on the 2014 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch list. • RHP/C/1B Danny Grauer was drafted in the 38th round by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2013 MLB Draft. • Grauer hit a two-run home run in his first at bat of 2014 against North Florida, last Friday. He led the Flames with seven home runs in 2013. • INF Dalton Britt had at least one hit in all three of Liberty games last weekend (.417) and collected two two-hit contests. • Britt was named to the 2013 Big South All-Tournament team and started every game at shortstop during his freshman season. This season, he has started three contests at third base and one at shortstop. • 1B/DH Ryan Seiz collected three hits and drove in two runs against Old Dominion, Tuesday. • Seiz joined the Liberty roster after transferring from Louisville in 2013. It was the home opener for Liberty. • Liberty had 12 hits, but left 12 men on base in the game. • DH Ryan Seiz had three hits and two RBIs in the contest. • SS Clay Keranen recorded his first multi-hit game at Liberty with two hits. He also scored a run. • LHP Blake Fulghum had a solid outing. He gave up three runs on four hits over six innings. • The Flames made three errors, leading to two unearned runs. Looking Back at UNF Tournament • Liberty took the final game of its three games at the UNF Best Bet Tournament, this past. The Flames banged out 16 hits in an 11-6 win over Richmond. • Liberty had seven players have two hits apiece in Sunday’s victory. 1B Ryan Seiz was one of the seven and hit his first home run of the season in the game. He also scored three times. • LHP Jared Lyons made two appearances this past weekend. He recorded the win in Liberty’s win over Richmond, pitching 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. • OF/P Ashton Perritt had four hits and stole a team-leading three bases this past weekend. He also recorded his first save with two scoreless innings against Richmond. • DH/C Danny Grauer hit a two-run home run in his first at bat of 2014 against North Florida, 2/14. • INF Dalton Britt had at least one hit in all three of Liberty games this past weekend, hitting .417 and collected two two-hit contests. • OF Nick Lacik also had at least one hit in each of Liberty’s three games this past weekend. Lacik hit . 417 and collected two two-hit games (USF, Saturday and Richmond, Sunday). 2014 LIBERTY FLAMES BASEBALL Buffalo Wild Wings Battle at the Beach, Feb. 21-23 Perritt Named to Preseason All-American Teams, Stopper Watch List • Outfielder/pitcher Ashton Perritt was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and the Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason All-American teams as an utility player (two-way player). • Perritt was selected to the NCBWA’s second team and the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s third team. • This past Tuesday, he was listed among 50 pitchers on the 2014 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch list. The award goes annually to the top closer in college baseball. • He becomes Liberty’s second player to garner Preseason All-American honors from the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The paper selected Aaron Grijalva as a Preseason All-American at first base in 2008. 2014 Flames Name Captains • Four players were chosen as captain in a vote by the members of the 2014 Flames. • Junior catcher/first baseman Alex Close, senior pitcher/catcher Danny Grauer, senior pitcher Trey Lambert and junior pitcher/outfield elder Ashton Perritt were selected by their teammates to serve as captains this season. Flames Ranked No. 35 in CBN’s Fabulous 40 • Liberty were ranked No. 35 in The Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s 2014 Fabulous 40 NCAA Division I preseason baseball poll. • Liberty, which finished 36-29 overall in 2013, is one of two Big South teams ranked in the newspaper’s preseason poll. Coastal Carolina is ranked No. 40. • After capturing the Big South title and reaching the finals of the NCAA Columbia, S.C. Toman Guides Flames to Best Division I Mark Over First Six Years • With a .619 winning percentage, head coach Jim Toman’s Flames have posted the highest NCAA Division I winning percentage of any head coach during his first six years at Liberty. Toman has guided the Flames to a 223-137-1 during his tenure. • Liberty has posted 35 or more wins in five of its six seasons under Toman. • Toman guided the Flames to the program’s first Big South Championship since 2000 and Liberty’s first appearance in a NCAA Regional final last season.
