This 1/3 acre planting is used for demonstration and teaching purposes. We have over 40 varieties of mature table
grapes, many of which are grown commercially and in home gardens. The majority were planted in 2001, while an
addition of 10 grape selections from the University of Arkansas were planted in 2006 as a replicated trial to help the
breeder, Dr. John Clark (Professor, University of Arkansas), determine their suitability to our climate and growing
conditions. Since planting, 5 of the selections have become named cultivars: Faith, Hope, Joy, Gratitude, and Sweet
Magic, some of which perform better in our area than others.
In 2014, we started a variety trial to determine how the new cultivars compare to some of the more commonly grown
cultivars in Oregon, including Interlaken, Canadice, Neptune, and Venus, among others. By collecting data on yield and
fruit quality we will have a better understanding of which cultivars perform well and may be good additions for growers
and gardeners alike. This study will be repeated in 2015.
