MORE FACULTY NEWS:
MAUDE attended and presented at the Women in Educational Leadership Conference in Lincoln, NE, October 10-14. Her session highlighted the importance of collaboration between
institutions when evaluating competitive grant opportunities. The session also focused on how
digital technologies “keep the conversation going.“
While there, she met several women leaders with ties to Messiah College and, served on a
committee to evaluate candidates for the University of Nebraska’s doctoral program in Educational Leadership. Look for future leadership initiatives, including research, from Maude with
her WELC colleagues.
Maude shared more of her research on Instructional Technologies that facilitate teacher candidate self-efficacy within the Co-teaching model developed by St. Cloud State, MN, at PAC-TE
on October 22.
JAN was asked by TESOL International Association to write all the materials for their course
“TESOL Principles, Practices and Perspectives.”
“That was my August job! It amounted to writing 16 original essays, with accompanying preand post-reading tasks, on foundational TESOL topics.” In the future it will be both an online
course and a workbook for purchase.
ONLINE AND ENGAGED . . .
Dr. Maude Yacapsin cultivates authentic collaboration and Interconnectedness, online. Messiah
College’s graduate students notice why online courses at Messiah are distinctive: “Because of
my professors’ ability to create cooperative and thought-provoking learning opportunities with
my peers, I have grown both personally and professionally beyond what I thought was possible
from an online class.”
Dr. Yacapsin responds by saying that, “comments such as these are truly humbling and I am
very appreciative and quite honored; they indicate that students value my our commitment to
learning and that at Messiah, we care.”
Regardless of a students’ experience with technology, online learning may pose an initial
challenge. Dr. Yacapsin evokes confidence in her students through her comprehensive knowledge of tech platforms and apps that enable her to provide teachers and educational professionals with research-based practices for today’s classrooms.

Our Messiah teachers led their students in acting as ambassadors and hosts of their countries by
practicing the language of diplomacy and developing skills in cross-cultural and linguistic learning. Through this entire process the curriculum sought to help students develop creative and
critical thinking skills. Cedarville University in Ohio hosted the four-week program that welcomed
180 students from seven countries, that included South Korea, Brazil, Peru, Italy, China, Vietnam,
