Rules for Submitting a Doctoral Thesis Using a Compendium of Publications Agreement of the Official Postgraduate Programme Committee of 7 July 2010, modified by the Doctoral Academic Committee on 13 October 2015. Introduction In its academic regulations for doctoral studies, (Agreement of the Governing Council of May 2, 2007, amended by agreement of the Governing Council on October 6, 2008), Universitat Pompeu Fabra establishes the following procedures regarding the submission of a thesis using a compendium of publications: Article 10. Paragraph 7.1: The doctoral thesis should consist of original research following one of the lines of research of the doctorate. With the permission of the thesis director, t he thesis may also consist of a series of articles that have recently been published or are in press. In the latter case, the doctoral thesis must include a report presenting the thesis defended, with an introductory chapter and final conclusions. Articles that are included in a thesis cannot be included as part of another thesis. These rules come into force for students of the doctoral course 2015-2016. However, students currently enrolled in courses prior to the Doctoral Programme of the Department of Communication of the UPF may voluntarily avail themselves to them. Rules 1. MODALITY A This modality requires a set of publications consisting of three articles with the following characteristics: All articles must have been published or have been accepted for publication in academic peer-reviewed journals that are part of repertoires such as Web of Science (ISI) or Scopus. The doctoral candidate must be the first author in all articles. At least one article must be published in English. 2. MODALITY B This modality requires a set of four items, at least two of which must be articles in academic journals with the following characteristics: All articles must have been published or have been accepted for publication in academic peer-reviewed journals that are part of repertoires such as Web of Science (ISI) or Scopus. The doctoral candidate must be the first author in all articles. At least one article must be published in English. The two remaining items in this modality may be the following: Articles published in academic peer-reviewed journals that are part of repertoires accepted by evaluation agencies (see annex). Chapters in books published by academic publishers. Papers presented at academic conferences, provided that the paper has been accepted to be published as part of the proceedings. REQUIREMENTS All items must have been published or accepted for publication after the registration in the Doctoral Programme. Items used in a thesis cannot be included as part of another doctoral candidate’s thesis. In both modalities, co-authors who do not have doctorates must present a waiver authorizing use of the article in the doctoral candidate’s thesis. REPORT The report, where the research and the unity of the published research is presented and justified, must contain a minimum of 20,000 words (excluding the annex) and must include at least the following sections: Theoretical framework / Objectives / Research questions / Methodology / Results / Conclusions. Complete reference information must be provided for each item, including the ISSN number (for journals) or the ISBN number (for books). Items (articles, chapters, communications) making up the research work must be included. In case the complete published document cannot be attached, the first page and the acceptance letter or email by the corresponding publisher must be provided, along with the complete original document.
