St. Francis’ Canossian College (SFCC) Speech Day 2011
The graduation ceremony for F.7 students was successfully held on June 25 this year. 5 PSA
exco-members – Melody Ho, Celia Lam, Lily Louie, Joling Wong, and Diana Yip – attended the
ceremony.
The PSA has sent a beautifully arranged orchid pot plant to the ceremony so as to express our
kind regard and most heartfelt congratulations to fellow Franciscans.
The ceremony started with the procession of graduates, guests, and teachers, followed by the
Prayer of the Graduate led by Wilda Lam, the Head Prefect. The guest of honour, Ms. Lau
Fung Yee, Shirley, J.P., encouraged the graduates not to give up in face of challenges. Ms. Lau
and Sr. Theresa Chien, the school supervisor, then presented certificates and awards to
students who have done well in academic, sports and music.
On behalf of the graduates, Vincy Ng, the Head Prefect gave her vote of thanks to parents and
teachers for their unconditional support throughout the years.
The ceremony concluded with the exhilarating performances by the Chinese Instrumental
Ensemble (將軍令、醉紅塵), Dance Team (春來了(藏族)(群舞)) and Senior Choir (Rhythm of
Life).
St. Francis’ Canossian School (SFCS) Open Day
When we think of our primary school, what is the first thing that comes in your mind? Angels
on the wall, or the cover playground where you had lots of precious moments shared with
friends? With 5 years of replacement plan, we are thankful that the first and second phases of
SFCS new school site were successfully completed. Our PSA committee members Diana Yip
and Nicole Chan were delighted to join the Open Day of the new school site.
The open day lasted for 2 days (on May 7th - 8th, 2011). We attended a cocktail reception
followed by an opening ceremony in school hall on the first day. The ceremony began with a
beautiful music performed by the SFCS students. We are honored to have Sr Chan Sum Yee
Cynthia and Mr. Michael Suen G.B.S., J.P. to give us speech, and the Most Rev. John Tong
Hon to give us word of blessings.
Another highlight of the ceremony is a drama <天使學堂> involving hundreds of teachers, past
students and current students performed on stage that afternoon. The story was about how
each Franciscan could act like angels and should make use of our gifted talents and
knowledge we learnt from school to make our world better. It was a splendid performance with
nice songs and group dances.
Having a tour in the new school, we were amazed by the well-equipped new facilities and we
recalled our old times. We even met some sisters, teachers, school bus drivers and helpers we
knew when we were young! Their faces do not change at all!
St. Mary’s Canossian College – 110th Anniversary Dinner
Our PSA was honored to be invited by St. Mary’s Canossian College (SMCC) to their 110th
Anniversary Celebration Dinner held at the Laguna Palace Restaurant in Hung Hom on 13
November 2010. Our committee members Nicole Chan and Melody Ho represented the team
to join the celebration.
With the participation of over 1,100 alumnae, Canossian sisters, teachers and guests, it was a
memorable and exciting evening to witness the long history of SMCC and to recall happy
moments SMCC provides. The dining hall was crowded with past students taking pictures and
catching up with friends and teachers that they had not seen for a long time. We were happy to
share the table with the committee members of Sacred Heart Canossian College and also
Canossian Sisters. We enjoyed having updates to each other and it was a valuable opportunity
to share experiences with our sister school on organizing events.
During the dinner, Sister Marie Remedios gave us a warm-hearted speech sharing her
memories of the school days, followed by a series of exciting lucky draws which made the hall
full of laughter and screams. Our PSA was delighted to contribute $1000 worth of cash
coupons as one of the lucky draw prizes that night.
It was a successful dinner organized by SMCC’s PSA! Give them a big round of applause!
Sacred Heart Canossian College – 150th Anniversary Celebration Dinner
2010 marks the 150th anniversary of Sacred Heart Canossian College (SHCC). Two of our
PSA committee members, Joling Wong and Celia Lam, were delighted to witness this grand
occasion in November 2010.
SHCC’s AGM cum Annual Dinner was held at JW Marriott Hotel, Admiralty. The night’s event
started with the melodious singing by SHCC’s Alumnae Choir, followed by a series of
wonderful singing and dancing performances by young Sacred Heartists. One of the night’s
highlights was that an alumna brought along her kindergarten school uniform to the stage, and
shared with the audience her fond memories in Sacred Heart.
Our associate expressed our most heartfelt congratulations to SHCC and contributed $1000
worth of cash coupons as one of the lucky draw prizes that night.
Kitty Chan, a fellow Franciscan graduated in
1977, passed away on 8th April 2011, with her
beloved family by her side at Kwong Wah Hospital,
following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
On behalf of fellow Franciscans, PSA had
expressed our deepest condolences to Kitty’s family.
Kitty had generously donated $10,000 to the PSA
Scholarship Fund. May Kitty rest in peace in heaven.
