Using the image archive

Getting in, finding your way and using the Image Gallery
The Image Gallery, in technical terms is a “Digital Asset Management” software. In simple terms, it’s a huge
electronic file cabinet that houses all the photos and graphics available to Messiah College employees.
Access to the Image Gallery is through a web interface with a user login and password. Currently, we have one
login for the gallery.

What You See
Now that you’re in Cumulus, you should see the listing of images.
You can see the year the photo was taken by looking at the file name. In this example, the photo was taken in
2009 (as designated by the first 20 numbers in the name: 09)
If this is a photo you’d like to use for your website or Power Point presentation, you simply click the basket icon
to add the image to a collection of images you’d like to download, OR if you only need one or two images, you
can click the ‘down’ arrow to immediately download the image to your desktop.
Searching for images
So, now you’re in Cumulus, and you want to find a photo of Hoffman. Up in the top text box, type in your search
term. All images are key worded to make your search simple. Click the ‘magnifying glass’ to search for your
image.
And, viola… images appear for your use:
You can proceed with the individual download or add it to your basket if you’re looking for additional items.
Downloading images
You’ve found the perfect image for your website or Power Point use, so let’s start downloading them!
A) Download individual items: To download a single image, you click the down arrow, which will display
this prompt:
Click ‘Download’ and after a few seconds you should see a screen that says ‘You have chosen to open:” and you
can open or save the file to your hard drive. Typically, it will save to the folder you have specified as your
download folder.
B) Download items from your basket: To download a group of images, Cumulus prompts you to download
a ‘zip’ file. A zip file is a way to condense the size of the total download so it doesn’t take an hour to
download all your images. To download the images, you click the basket icon (see image on next page)
You will see the images added to your Collection Basket, and the basket icon on the individual photos you added
turn green. Click on the Collection Basket ‘button in the upper right corner to start the download process of
your photos (see above image)
By clicking the Collection Basket, you will see three icons in the upper right corner.
from left to right: Reveal basket in main collection; print basket; download basket
Reveal Basket in main collection: Just shows the images in your basket only.
Print Basket: Give you print options for your basket (see below)
Download basket: Allows you to download the entire basket. It goes through 3 steps.
1) Preparing Download
2) Start download (you will see a download box appear, see below)
3) Finished.
The file will download to your default download directory / folder as a .zip file.
NOTE: If you have any issues with downloading images, please submit an RT request via MCSquare.
