Why Social Media Marketing?
Social Media is one of the most diverse, dynamic and growing
fields for all sizes of businesses. In addition to an understanding of
marketing business concepts, digital and integrated
communication skills, a well-rounded knowledge of creation,
application, communication and analytical skills for Social Media
Marketing is of increasing value to those seeking employment in
marketing, or those involved in growing the businesses for which
they work.
What Does a Social Media Marketing
Professional Do?
Social Media Marketing includes many different roles and responsibilities. Their primary duty is to create long
term marketing strategies through optimizing, maintaining, and monitoring various social media platforms.
Activities may include content creation, creative input and campaign management and community engagement.
In addition, social media marketing professionals are often involved in measuring and monitoring online media,
information sources to determine return on investment. They may also be involved with website content
refinement, email marketing campaigns and search engine optimization.
What is the Job Outlook for Social Media Marketing?



The salary range for a Social Media Marketing Manager is $26,556 - $71,528 per year.1
Projections show there will be in increase of over 355,000 new jobs in this area by 2022. 2

A.A.S. IN BUSINESS – SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING TRACK
RECOMMENDED COURSE SEQUENCE
The following course sequence assumes that you attend full-time (averaging 12 credits per fall and spring semester) and
take a couple of summer courses. If you attend part-time (i.e., you take fewer than 12 credits per semester), it will take
you longer to get your degree. If you follow this sequence, you’ll earn the Certificate of Completion in Social Media
Marketing in 16 months and the associate degree after 28 months.
Before starting onto the AAS degree, students should:
 Take the reading, writing and math tests at the SCC Testing Center. It should take around 2 hours to take both
tests. (Test placement scores are required to enroll in ENG101, CRE and/or MAT course).
 Take the scores to an academic advisor for interpretation and course selection. Be sure to take this course
sequence guide with you for advisement.
