SCOTTSDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE IN BUSINESS
RETAIL MANAGEMENT AND MARKETING TRACK
Why Retail Management and Marketing?
Retail managers are constantly needed in the
dynamic and growing retail industry. While many
people work as store sales associates, only the
elite will become store managers that command
higher salaries. The U.S. Bureau of Labor projects
consistent demand for management positions at
salaries ranging from $37,000 to $60,000. Do you
have what it takes to be a retail manager?
What Does a Retail Manager Do?
Retail managers are in charge of the daily efficient and profitable operation of a store. They
may manage stores that sell a specific line of merchandise, such as clothing or electronics
products, or that sell a wide variety of merchandise, such as a department store. They are the
ultimate general manager in charge of a small or medium-sized business.
The most successful retail managers have both personal skills and technical training. They
must have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, and they must know how to
merchandise, set up displays, and purchase products. Some retail employers require future
retail managers to have a college degree in business.
A.A.S. in Business/Retail Management and Marketing at Scottsdale Community
College
Scottsdale Community College (SCC), accredited by the North Central Association, offers the
Associate in Business, with specialization in Retail Management and Marketing for students
who wish to pursue retail Management as a career. You'll learn the fundamentals of selling,
merchandising, buying, and management that will qualify you for a variety of retail positions.
The following pages discuss program requirements and provide a recommended academic
plan toward the completion of your degree.
