SCOTTSDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
ASSOCIATE OF APPLIED SCIENCE IN BUSINESS
MANAGEMENT TRACK
Why Management?
Managers with strong leadership skills are
constantly in demand in all industries. Whether
you manage a small office, a large department, or
even run your own business, you will command a
much larger salary than the subordinates that you
lead. If you have strong interpersonal,
communication, and leadership skills, you have the
potential of being a successful manager.
What Does a Manager Do?
Simply put, managers plan, organize, lead, and control:
 Plan: Define goals, establish strategy, and coordinate activities among others.
 Organize: Determine what needs to be done, how it will be done, and who will do it.
 Lead: Direct and motivate all involved parties and resolve conflicts.
 Control: Monitor activities to ensure they’re being accomplished as planned.
Managers are needed in all industries in companies of all sizes: from office managers to plant
managers to store managers to top managers. The best managers are true leaders who guide
the company’s best assets – its people – to achieve or exceed the company’s goals.
AAS in Business/Management at Scottsdale Community College
Scottsdale Community College (SCC), accredited by the North Central Association, offers the
AAS in Business with a Management Specialization for students who wish to pursue an entrylevel management position in a small, medium, or even large company. The Management
specialization will teach you how to manage a diverse workforce, develop professional skills,
and direct a department or even an entire company in a competitive world.
The following pages discuss program requirements and provide a recommended academic
plan toward the completion of your Certificate in Management as well as your Associate of
Applied Science in Business (Management).
