CALL FOR PAPERS JOURNAL “EDUCATION AS CHANGE” Special issue TEACHERS AND SOCIAL COHESION IN DIVERSE CONTEXTS IN THE GLOBAL SOUTH Guest Editors: Yusuf Sayed and Azeem Badroodien Education as Change invites papers for a special issue focused on research on education in relation to social cohesion and justice with the intention of fostering comparative perspectives on countries in the global South. We welcome manuscripts that explore following topics: Teachers and peace – how teachers are educated, supported and embowered to act as agents of peace and social cohesion in schools and classrooms, and enabled to mitigate inequalities and reduce violence, with a view to identifying measures and processes that can increase the effectiveness of such programmes amongst countries in the global South; Teachers as agents of change – to consider teachers not only as the subjects of systemic inequality, but also as agents of social justice and cohesion, and ask how teachers exercise this agency given the constraints of their diverse contexts; Teachers and exclusion – to focus on potential of teachers to disrupt inherited patterns of exclusion and injustice so that careful scholarly consideration is given to the opportunities for education to lead out of path dependencies; Inequality and violence in education – to address theoretical and empirical notions of inequality, injustice and violence as they relate to education and teachers. Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Submissions and Deadlines: In the first instance, please email a 600 word extended abstract to the guest editors: [email protected] or [email protected] and [email protected] by 15th April 2016. Authors of abstracts that fit the scope of the call and promise high-quality manuscripts will be informed by 30th April 2016 and will be invited to submit full papers. Submission of full papers for peer review will be required by 15th July 2016. The publication of the special edition will take place in December 2016.
