CALL FOR PAPERS
JOURNAL “EDUCATION AS CHANGE”
Special issue
TEACHERS AND SOCIAL COHESION IN DIVERSE CONTEXTS IN THE GLOBAL
SOUTH
Guest Editors: Yusuf Sayed and Azeem Badroodien
Education as Change invites papers for a special issue focused on research on education in
relation to social cohesion and justice with the intention of fostering comparative
perspectives on countries in the global South.
We welcome manuscripts that explore following topics:

Teachers and peace – how teachers are educated, supported and embowered to act
as agents of peace and social cohesion in schools and classrooms, and enabled to mitigate
inequalities and reduce violence, with a view to identifying measures and processes that can
increase the effectiveness of such programmes amongst countries in the global South;

Teachers as agents of change – to consider teachers not only as the subjects of
systemic inequality, but also as agents of social justice and cohesion, and ask how teachers
exercise this agency given the constraints of their diverse contexts;

Teachers and exclusion – to focus on potential of teachers to disrupt inherited
patterns of exclusion and injustice so that careful scholarly consideration is given to the
opportunities for education to lead out of path dependencies;

Inequality and violence in education – to address theoretical and empirical notions
of inequality, injustice and violence as they relate to education and teachers.
Submitted papers should not have been previously published nor be under consideration for
publication elsewhere.
