P O S T - G R A D U A T E S U R V E Y – E X E C U T I V E S U M M A RY
ABOUT THE SURVEY
The purpose of the annual post-graduate survey is to capture information on the employment and graduate
school status of Messiah College alumni within six to nine months of graduation. Statistics provided are based
on information received through a variety of methods. An electronic survey was created using Qualtrics, and
distributed in May and October via email. Data was also gathered from 2012 graduates who attended the
“Zero-Year Reunion” at Homecoming. Follow up emails were then sent in November and December to alumni
who had not yet responded to the survey. Information on non-responders was then gathered from updated
professional profiles on social media sites such as LinkedIn. Finally, individual academic departments were
contacted via phone or email, and a request was distributed to all Messiah College educators for any
additional information on graduates whose status remained unknown.
Through this extensive process, responses were collected from 70 percent of the Class of 2012. (this
response rate is a 21percent increase from last year’s report of the Class of 2011).
The goal of this report is to provide summary highlights, as well as a breakdown by academic department, of
the post-graduate activity for the Class of 2012.

professional program within 6 to 9 months after graduation. 77% of the respondents
secured employment while 19% indicated a graduate or professional program as their
primary activity.

GEOGRAPHIC DESTINATIONS
The geographic destinations for the Class of 2012 spanned the United States as well as international
locations. In the U.S., the Northeast continues to be the strongest draw for Messiah College graduates,
constituting approximately 86% of the graduates. International destinations totaled 3% and include Thailand,
Australia, Ethiopia, China, and the United Kingdom.

EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION
77 percent of the Class of 2012 survey respondents reported employment as their primary activity following
graduation. Graduates who are in full-time work, part-time work, post-graduate internships, and
missions/volunteer work are considered as employed for the purposes of the survey. The chart below shows
the breakdown of the various types of employment for the Class of 2012. The majority of those employed
are in full-time positions.
