progr am overview
At SCC, faculty members help students "build
the future... one detail at a time." The program
is structured to help students become adept
at industry vocabulary, the design process, and
communication skills.
Courses in the history of furniture, architecture,
and decorative arts establish a foundation for
use in studio classes. Students will learn to apply
artistic design principles in problem solving while
working within the regulations that govern the
industry and always considering the needs of
the client.

design community
Students can benefit from the close relationship
SCC enjoys with the local interior design
industry.
Old Town Scottsdale is the home of many
interior studios. The Arizona Design Center
is five miles away from campus, while many
manufacturers, distributors, product showrooms,
architectural and interior studios are found in
the Scottsdale Airpark.
The reputation of our program, and the
proximity of our campus to these respected
businesses, will enhance the learning experience
through internships, field trips, and guest
lectures.
Students may participate in trade shows and
international travel as well as apply for multiple
interior design competitions and scholarships
from local industry.
Joining our active student body provides
students with the chance to engage in several
community projects and industry events.
In 2008 and 2009, a project with Chrysalis
received national media attention. In 2007,
students participated in a competition in which
they designed a bedroom remodel for a teen
and installed it–just like on TV. Students have
remodeled an entire home for boys at Sunshine
Acres and a multi-apartment unit for senior
citizens.
