Scottsdale Community College is comprised of many
different departments, programs, units, centers and
outreach offices. It is important that any communication created for an external audience reflects affiliation with Scottsdale Community College and the
Maricopa Community Colleges.
Identification with Scottsdale Community College
is essential, and must be used in addition to the
individual department, program or unit identification.
This style guide provides the college policies for
logo use and the specific information employees
and departments need when creating a variety of
communication products.
These guidelines were created to promote a more
cohesive, unified look for Scottsdale Community
College. The rules were designed for everyone at
SCC, and all employees must follow the guidelines
described here. It is up to individuals, department
heads, division chairs, deans and vice-presidents to
individually and collectively make sure the guidelines
are followed.
The Marketing and PR Department is here to help
employees produce products that align with the
college’s overall branding efforts. While our college
messaging may be diverse and varied, we are collectively charged with the responsibility to adhere
to the practices that will strengthen and sustain the
quality which our image represents.

fa m il y of colors
SCC’s logo color is officially green and gold.
However, that does not mean that everything you see
will be strictly green and gold. In addition to our
official colors, a family of colors will be used in all
of our external communication and branding campaigns. These colors will be used until we select a
new family of colors.
This color palette is meant to have a fresh and
modern earthtone feel. Every SCC piece should
always feel like it came from the same place and
have the same tone. Color helps to establish and
sustain this.

O U R L ogo and
O fficial C olors
SCC’s official colors are deep green and earthy
gold.
A bold new image, reflective of the dynamic,
student-centered focus of Scottsdale Community
College was unveiled at the college’s 35th
Anniversary Celebration on November 16, 2005.
Two “C’s,” representing the community and the
college, are intertwined to form a progressive and
powerful “S,” illustrating the student-centered
approach to teaching and learning and symbolic of
the city in which we reside.
The green and gold chosen for the design integrate tradition with modernity. By selecting a deep
green, Scottsdale Community College remains true
to both its heritage with “Artie” the artichoke and
with the environment it calls home. The earthy
gold reflects both the landscape and the rich educational offerings at SCC.
SCC’s official color palette is:
Pantone 357 (green), Pantone 1245 (gold).

LOGO RATIO
For all collateral and promotional materials,
the logo size should be no smaller than 13%

logo safet y zone
No type or element of artwork should violate the
safe space of the logo. Use the spacing between
the top and bottom of the “S” and inside part of
the “SCOTTSDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE” as
a guide for the space around the logo that should
not be violated.
one color & gra y scale
The preferred usage is two-color, but if that is
not an option, type and “S” become 100% black,
PMS 357 or PMS 1245; and outline of “S” becomes
a 45% screen of color. Only one of SCC’s family of
colors (pg. 4) may be used for one-color logos.
Please do not use any other colors for one-color

T he W ave
The “wave” is a graphic element that helps create
a consistent look across all college marketing and
communications products.
The wave allows us to:
• Display data in an organized manner
• Create a stylized frame to organize and separate text content and photography
• Display SCC’s identity colors and use them
consistently to create a unified look and feel
across all multimedia and print products
• Strengthen our brand by uniting all college
marketing products, including those of individual departments, under the umbrella of a
singular, but flexible, look and feel

the wave
The wave bar is styled into a thin ribbon comprised of colors taken from SCC’s official color
palette. The colors in a wave begin on one side
as 100% of the selected color and continue as
100% to the other side. Color ribbons alternate
as thick on one side and thin at the end.
The wave can be created in color or in black &
white.
The wave can be applied as a horizontal header
or footer, depending on the product. It can also
be applied as a vertical ribbon, depending on the
product.
The wave as a header or footer element bleeds
on both sides.
Depending on the product, a
minimum of two colors and a maximum of three
colors should be used in the horizontal header or
footer ribbon.
Two colors only should be used in the vertical
wave, should bleed on one side only, and should
be used primarily to separate spot color and text
content.
The wave can also be utilized as a small accent
mark where it is placed next to the SCC logo, or
another object or border, to add a small element
that supports the style of the larger header or
footer. Two colors only should be used in the
accent wave.
The accent wave can be created in
color or in black & white.

Images should capture the look of real people rather than stock photos, when possible.
Always strive for ethnic, gender, and age diversity
in all images selected for print and multimedia use.
In a single product, select photos that represent a
singular subject as well as images with multiple subjects. Include the diversity of SCC’s architecture
