Discussion: For each of the key policy initiatives to be presented, explore opportunities to
incorporate one or more of these prevention strategies to improve maternal health outcomes:
 integrate preconception and interconception care into routine health care for all women of
reproductive age
 assess and address pregnancy planning, including use of effective contraception to prevent
unintended pregnancy, among women with serious chronic conditions or previous adverse
pregnancy outcomes
 implement comprehensive and coordinated protocols and systems for early identification and
management of high-risk pregnancies
