Principles for Curriculum Alterations for Students Admitted to I-Shou
University

I.
The curriculum scheme proposed by departments (tracks) and institutes shall be considered a
contract. In principal, required courses and track-specific required and elective courses shall
not be altered after students have been enrolled. Any alteration of the original curriculum
scheme due to social changes or special needs, alterations shall be handled as per the
Principles.
II.
The procedures of applying for curriculum alteration are as follows:
1. Any alteration shall be adopted by the department/institute-level Curriculum Planning
Committee. If students have already been exempted from or completed the course, the
Committee shall figure out solutions on a case-by-case basis.
2. The alteration shall be adopted by the Department (Institute) Affairs Council.
3. After the alteration is announced, an “Application for Alteration in Required Course”
shall be filled out with the signatures of all the affected students. The application form
and supporting documents shall be submitted to the college-level Curriculum Planning
Committee for approval.
4. The documents mentioned above shall be submitted to the university-level Curriculum
Planning Committee for approval.
5. After reported and deliberated by the University Academic Council, the alteration shall
become effective after ratified by the President.
III.
Based on the year of admission, the curricula are subject to alterations for a maximum of five
times before graduation; track-specific electives are subject to alterations for a maximum of

ten times. The same course in the same grade is permitted to be altered only for once.
IV.
If there are students who have not completed the original course, the department (institute)
concerned shall offer related courses for them to retake or make up the course, or assist such
students in take the course at any other departments (institutes).
V.
The Principles become effective after adopted by the University Academic Council and
ratified by the President. The same procedures apply to any amendment to the Principles.
Note: In the event of any disputes or misunderstanding as to the interpretation of the language or
terms of these Principles, the Chinese language version shall prevail.
