Regulations for Students Pursuit of Double Major Degree at
I-Shou University

Article 1
The guidelines are enacted in accordance with the Academic Rules of I-Shou
University, University Act and its Enforcement Rules, and the Degree Conferral Law.
Article 2
Departments shall accept the applications of double major degree from students in
other departments. The required course list for double major and relevant regulations
shall be enacted by each department and then become effective upon adoption by the
University Academic Council.
Article 3
Double major degree students must complete all required credit hours for graduation
of the original major as well as all required credit hours for graduation of the second
major, with all the required elective credit hours. This is a requirement for obtaining
the double major degree.
Article 4
After completing the course in the first academic year, starting in the second year of
study until the 1st semester of the final year of study, undergraduate students may
apply for double major with different nature from the primary major.
Article 5
The transferred students shall complete the course of one academic year before apply
for double major in different nature starting from the subsequent academic year while
registering.
Article 6
Students with minor may apply to transfer into double major in the subsequent
academic year while registering. The freshmen shall apply minor into double major
in the second academic year while registering.
Article 7
With the consent of the Chairs of the primary department and the applied department,
the applicants shall submit to the Office of Academic Affairs for future reference.
Article 8
The credit hours and the academic scores of every semester of the students with
double major shall be merged with primary major and the 2nd major and computed on
the whole. The failed courses in both majors shall be calculated together as the fail
credit hours of the semester. Further instruction shall be applied pursuant to the
Academic Rules and relevant regulations.
Article 9
Only when the title of a required/elective course offered by the primary department is
the same as that of a course of the secondary department will the former be
recognized as a required course by the secondary department and the course credits
are recognized as well; students are not required to repeat the course.
Article 10
Students with double major who have not completed the required courses in both
majors, the course of second major which already took and related to the primary
major shall be considered as the selected courses of the primary major.
Article 11
Students with double major who have successfully completed the required courses
and the basic required credit hours of the primary major; however, failed to complete
the mandatory courses and the credit hours of the second major, the students shall be
granted with the qualification of minor degree if qualifying with the pertaining
regulations.
Article 12
Students with double major, who have successfully completed the required courses
and the basic required credit hours of the primary major; however, failed to complete
the required courses and the credit hours of the second major, the students might
extend the study year for another semester or academic year.
Article 13
Students with double major, who have successfully completed the required credit
hours in primary major; however, failed to completed the required credit hours of the
second major, the graduating students might apply to withdraw from a double major
before the end of the August of that year. The students shall be granted with
graduation qualification in the primary major; however, the students may not request
to fulfill the double major qualification or certificates stating with double major at
any time after graduation.
Article 14
Students with qualified double major degree shall be noted with the title of both
majors in the diploma, transcript records in English or Chinese and degree
certificates in English.
Article 15
In principle, students with double major shall take the required courses of the second
major in semesters; however, if the courses clash with the courses of the primary
major, the students might need to attend summer school.
Article 16
If the transferred double major students from other universities who intend to
continue their qualification of double major studies shall re-register after admitted to
the school. The Chair of the second major department shall conduct the credit

exemption regarding the courses which already taken in the prior universities.
When offering a new course is deemed necessary for a double major pursued within
the designated time of study, students shall pay the credit fees as required. When
pursuing a double major and applying for extension of study, students shall pay
credit fees if taking no more than 9 credits, or shall pay tuition and incidental fees in
full if taking 10 credits and above. Students in Division of Continuing Education
shall pay for credit fees and incidental fees.
Article 18
Any issue not mentioned herein shall be subject to the relevant laws and regulations
of the Academic Rules of I-Shou University.
Article 19
The regulations become effective upon adoption by the University Academic Council
and ratification by Ministry of Education for future reference. The same procedure
shall apply for all the alternations of the Guidelines.
Note: In the event of any disputes or misunderstanding as the interpretation of the language or
terms of these regulations, the Chinese language version shall prevail.
