Course Description
Introduction to National Incident Management System and Incident Command System: Public Health Perspectives
provides an overview of NIMS (comprised of the Incident Command System, Multi-Agency Coordination Systems,
and Public Information Systems) for all levels of public health workers. IS-100 (ICS 100) Introduction to Incident
Command System: Focuses on ICS and more completely describes the system's organizational levels and
responsibilities of public health workers in a crisis response.
Note: Participants must complete the course by taking the final exam as soon as possible after attending the
instructor-led portion of the course. You must have a computer with Internet access to complete the final exam.
Instructor: Daniel J. Barnett, MD, MPH
Dan Barnett is Principal Investigator of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Public Health Training Center and Core Faculty of
the Office of Public Health Practice and Training at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where he
is an Associate Professor. He regularly provides training in public health core competencies and public health
preparedness, particularly the applicability of emergency preparedness concepts to daily public health practice
activities. Dr. Barnett previously worked at Baltimore City Health Department's Office of Public Health Preparedness
and Response, where he conducted preparedness training activities.
