MEETING MINUTES, JUNE 19,2008
CALL TO ORDER: President Carol Powell called the
meeting to order at 6:30 PM.
PLACE: 170 Dahlia Way, Ventura, CA

PRESENT: Carol Powell, Lisa Ross, Laura Parson,
Sheila Lowe, Denise Lawrence, Laureen Lazzaro, Rita
Frayer, Mary Sullivan, Tea Silvestre, Jim Nicoll,
Barbara Marqu is
GUESTS ATTENDING: None
Minutes of the Previous Meeting: approved as
submitted.
President's Report: The next Board Meeting will be at
Sheila Lowe's home on July 17 th • It will be a pot-luck.
Hospitality: Absent.
Executive Secretary's Report: Denise will send out a
"News from the Board" email blast. Any Board
Member wishing to add something to that email should
have the verbiage to her by June 25 th • We continue to
have trouble with the website Le. members not getting
renewal notices, etc. Tea will submit a proposal for a
new system. Denise will look into dropping prior
members info off the w,ebsite.
Focal Points Editor: Tea requested a letter from the
President regarding her vision for the coming year. She
asked Board Members to contribute items for the Blow
Your Hom section. She will look into getting someone
to volunteer to take photos at the meetings.
Director of Networking: Absent.
Director of Mentoring: Position Empty
Director of Public Relations: Barbara announced that
there was an article in a recent edition of the Ventura
County Star featuring a photo of the prior Board and a
story and photo of our last speaker. She reported that
the scrapbook project is moving. forward.
Director of Membership: Jim offered to call prior
members and see why they dropped their membership
and try and talk them into rejoining. There will be a
three month membership drive, starting in July. Each
member who brings a guest to the meeting will receive a
free ticket for the 50-50 drawing. If the guest becomes
a member, the person who brought them to the meeting

receives an ad in Focal Points. The person who joins
gets their application fee waived and an article in
Focal Points.
Director of Finance: Mary and Rita presented the
current Financial Statements and the proposed budget
for the coming fiscal year. They asked that Board
Members notifY them with any adjustments that need
to be made to the budget.
Member at Large: Laureen will continue to help
where needed.
Past President: Lisa announced that the Wind
Beneath My Wings Award will be announced at the
November meeting. The deadline for submissions
will be October 15 th •
Special Events: Laura asked for suggestions for a
theme for the Silent Auction in August. It was agreed
that the theme would be "That's Entertainment".
There will be a basket contest, the winner will receive
a free meeting dinner. The next Fluff Party will be at
Laura's house on August 3'd. Laura presented a list of
potential Special Events for the coming year and
asked for further suggestions. She will distribute a
list at the next general meeting and fmd out the level
of interest on each event.
President-Elect: Sheila announced the speakers for
the next 4 months. Their was a discussion about
sponsoring a booth at the upcoming WEV event, but
it was decided that there was not enough time to get
ready. Sponsors are needed for the July and August
meetings. An idea was brought up to allow non­
members to sponsor a meeting for a cost of $200
which would include a year's membership.
