Minutes VENTURA COUNTY PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S NETWORK LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETING, NOVEMBER 18, 2010 IN ATTENDANCE: Sheila Lowe, Rita Frayer, Shirley Lorraine, Karen McGraa, Shirley JonesSnyder, Gloria Miele, Jim Nicoll, Mary Gabriels and Darian Taylor ABSENT: Linda McCarthy, Gale Dyson President Sheila Lowe called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. at her home. Shirley Snyder motioned that the minutes of the October meeting be approved and Mary Gabriels seconded. All voted approval. REPORTS President – Sheila Lowe Sheila thanked Shirley Lorraine for getting the new Lavaliere microphone. Shirley L will be keeper of the mic. President-Elect – Shirley Lorraine Shirley reported that January’s speaker will be Dr. Pricilla Partridge DeGarcia talking about mental health issues. Gloria Miele will be the sponsor for January. Many topics were suggested for February. Suggestions included “How to start up a small business,” “Women’s market and trends,” “Why the women’s market is hotter,” three person panel moderated by Karen McGraa. Shirley will look into each of these possibilities. It was suggested to do something in conjunction with Women’s Health for March; the silent auction will be in April, and something for Mother’s Day in May. Finance – Rita Frayer The Profit & Loss Statement for June-October, 2010 was passed out as well as the Cash Flow Statement as of October 31, 2010. Rita said this did not include figures yet from the Expo. Rita reported that David Michael-Kenney requested that the 50/50 money be donated to the Disabled American Veterans group. Since the winner turned back the money to be donated too, Rita sent them a check for $150. Membership – Linda McCarthy Absent – no report. Publicity – Shirley Jones-Snyder We have the potential to do a community access cable TV program. Shirley L and Karen McGraa said they would help Shirley S. with this project. Shirley L. brought CAPS information to have “reader” information about VCPWN on it monthly. It was also expressed that we need to be in Pacific Coast Business Times and deserve visibility and respect in their publication. Top Women in Business nominations deadline is in February and we should have several women nominated for this. Ventura Breeze also has their publication on-line now and is connected with the on-line community newspaper Ed Hat. Shirley S. requested articles be submitted about VCPWN and our members to submit to all these publications. It was suggested doing videos on You Tube. Shirley L. suggested each member going through their business cards and personally inviting people to the January meeting. Special Events – Mary Gabriels Mary reported that the auction went really well. She brought some business card holders that can be given to new members Hospitality – Gale Dyson Absent – no report. Promoting the professional and personal growth of Ventura County women through education, mutual support, and sharing of resources. Mentoring – Gloria Miele Reported that she went through all the past mentoring information and topics included sales, marketing, management, networking, business planning, and profit. We need to find out who has expertise in these areas that can mentor. She asked if there were any suggested groups to solicit who wants to be mentored. It was suggested that Gloria form a committee to help her with this. Gloria was given a list of names to contact for potential committee members. The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 20th at 6:00 p.m. at Sheila’s. Respectfully submitted, Darian Taylor, Recording Secretary Networking – Karen McGraa Karen created a procedural book for the Expo documenting the various things required along with samples in each category. She didn’t have any documentation on the prizes. Rita provided a copy of the food bill. Karen had a list of suggestions for next year as well. Also, we need to have something equivalent for the grand prize next year as this was a big draw. Member at Large – Jim Nicoll Jim said he was going to the Women Today Expo that is being held at the Ventura Fairgrounds and handing out VCPWN brochures and picking up business cards. Old Business None to report. New Business Gloria said that the Girl Scout troupe she was affiliated with was putting on “Keys to Your Future” event for middle school age gals in 6th, 7th and 8th grade on March 5th and 6th. Capt. Margaret Cooper will be their speaker. The Girl Scouts are looking for sponsors. A discussion followed. Jim Nicoll motioned that we donate $200 and have a table at their event. Rita Frayer seconded.
