new Lavaliere microphone. Shirley L will be
keeper of the mic.
President-Elect – Shirley Lorraine
Shirley reported that January’s speaker will be
Dr. Pricilla Partridge DeGarcia talking about
mental health issues. Gloria Miele will be the
sponsor for January. Many topics were
suggested for February. Suggestions included
“How to start up a small business,” “Women’s
market and trends,” “Why the women’s market
is hotter,” three person panel moderated by
Karen McGraa. Shirley will look into each of
these possibilities. It was suggested to do
something in conjunction with Women’s Health
for March; the silent auction will be in April, and
something for Mother’s Day in May.
Finance – Rita Frayer
The Profit & Loss Statement for June-October,
2010 was passed out as well as the Cash Flow
Statement as of October 31, 2010. Rita said this
did not include figures yet from the Expo. Rita
reported that David Michael-Kenney requested
that the 50/50 money be donated to the Disabled
American Veterans group. Since the winner
turned back the money to be donated too, Rita
sent them a check for $150.
Membership – Linda McCarthy
Absent – no report.
Publicity – Shirley Jones-Snyder
We have the potential to do a community access
cable TV program. Shirley L and Karen McGraa
said they would help Shirley S. with this project.
Shirley L. brought CAPS information to have
“reader” information about VCPWN on it
monthly. It was also expressed that we need to
be in Pacific Coast Business Times and deserve
visibility and respect in their publication. Top
Women in Business nominations deadline is in
February and we should have several women
nominated for this. Ventura Breeze also has
their publication on-line now and is connected
with the on-line community newspaper Ed Hat.
Shirley S. requested articles be submitted about
VCPWN and our members to submit to all these
publications. It was suggested doing videos on
You Tube. Shirley L. suggested each member
going through their business cards and
personally inviting people to the January
meeting.
Special Events – Mary Gabriels
Mary reported that the auction went really well.
She brought some business card holders that can
be given to new members
Hospitality – Gale Dyson

Mentoring – Gloria Miele
Reported that she went through all the past
mentoring information and topics included sales,
marketing, management, networking, business
planning, and profit. We need to find out who
has expertise in these areas that can mentor. She
asked if there were any suggested groups to
solicit who wants to be mentored. It was
suggested that Gloria form a committee to help
her with this. Gloria was given a list of names to
contact for potential committee members.
The meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. The next
meeting will be held on Thursday, January 20th
at 6:00 p.m. at Sheila’s.
Respectfully submitted,
Darian Taylor, Recording Secretary
Networking – Karen McGraa
Karen created a procedural book for the Expo
documenting the various things required along
with samples in each category. She didn’t have
any documentation on the prizes. Rita provided
a copy of the food bill. Karen had a list of
suggestions for next year as well. Also, we need
to have something equivalent for the grand prize
next year as this was a big draw.
Member at Large – Jim Nicoll
Jim said he was going to the Women Today
Expo that is being held at the Ventura
Fairgrounds and handing out VCPWN brochures
and picking up business cards.
Old Business
None to report.
