IN ATTENDANCE: Mary Gabriels, Sue Osborn, Shirley Jones Snyder, Sheila Lowe, Michelle McConica, Alison Balter, Jann Huling, Micki Rickard, Jim Nicoll, Anna Kittleson, and Darian Taylor. Networking – Insurance broker, Phil Bullard will be at the next board mtg. Alison will give him the option of attending @ 5:45 if he’d like to have dinner or 6:15 if not. Alison has friend in promo products business that is a member but hasn’t been able to attend. She brought samples of bags to use for the business expo. Mary Gabriels also brought samples from company she works for, Proforma. Tall, heavy duty plastic bags were favored. Mary & Alison will get pricing from both companies and it was decided to select company by price they give us. Jim suggested we get a major sponsor to cover cost of bag and put their logo on it. There was mention of asking Rick White of Mini. Costs were discussed and pending the final cost of set up fees the following tentative fees were agreed on: $250 major sponsor, $50 for company logo, $30 company name (1 line). Discussed the Spirit of Networking Award and explanation given on process for selecting winner. ABSENT: Lynn Ryder President Darian Taylor called the meeting to order at 6:20 pm. Sue moved minutes of LT Retreat be approved, Sheila 2nd, motion carried. DIRECTOR REPORTS: Membership/Webmaster – updated website with July program info. Speaker has changed her topic to “Effect of Anti Depressants”. After discussion, board decided they wanted her to go back to previous topic of “Team approach to mental health”. Sue will talk w/her. Sheila invited 8 of the new members to join the membership committee. New member breakfast will be held Tues, Jul 16 @ 8 am @ Marie Callendars. Agenda was passed out. New member gift to consist of bag, sticker, notepad & bookmark. Shirley’s mom will assemble. Alison motioned to serve the Pres Elect/Programs – Sue had asked Breena Maggio about sponsoring July meeting since her business was health & wellness related. Her sponsorship fee will be covered by Jim & her husband. Sue reviewed the speaker proposals she had received to date. 1 Discussion was held about doing “panels” ie travel, hair, financial services. The board also agreed that we need to have business oriented programs/speakers for ½ the meetings. Sue will continue to work on programs to fit that request. the postcard for the Bus Expo. She usually charges $60 to businesses and $40 to nonprofits for set up. Discussion was held about giving her ½ table at expo and her co name on the bags in exchange for her fee. Darian will also have her BNI member, Todd Chandler give a quote on this as well. Micki asked if any more board members were wanting tables as they were going to be opened up to members. A few more board members signed up. Finance - Shirley passed out last year’s budget, cash flow stmt for May and budget for 2013-14. She explained everything line by line which was very helpful to board. Alison asked about the budget for Spirit of Networking and Shirley told her it was part of the special events line item. There was a question about who is contacting the renewing members and Shirley said she is doing them. A discussion was held about removing non-members from the website. After much discussion on this, Sheila & Shirley decided they would work together on this. A budget for centerpieces was discussed. Many of the items are donated and/or Mary has been able to purchase at reasonable price. A motion was made by Sheila to budget $50/mo for centerpieces, it was 2nd by Alison and motion carried. Sue had purchased a few jewelry items online and gave those to Mary to use. Communications - Michelle informed us that we are on CAPS TV, she has submitted info to the Ventura Co Star. She would like to get photos from installation to submit. Alison and Darian’s husband worked on downloading Mary’s pictures and getting them to Michelle. (Written report was sent by email to members) Member at Large – Jim went to the storage facility and went through the items there. Said there are a lot papers that can be shredded. Shirley has been looking for The Articles of Incorporation but has not been able to find them. It was decided that Anna would contact Merle Divita to see if she knows where they might be. If unable to locate, Anna will contact Julie Saltoun to see if she can help us out. Hospitality – Jann will be sending out private emails ahead of time for table hostesses instead of trying to solicit them when they enter the meeting. She mentioned that Rick White of Mini wants to be more involved and would like to have something at the dealerships for members. It was mentioned that maybe his company might consider a corporate membership. If they go that route it was decided $100 would come off of the bag sponsorship. Past President – Mary said she will still do centerpieces and had received a donation from Island Packers for one of their boat excursions. Old Business – Shirley will give financial stmt training at the next board mtg. Darian said she and the Executive Board had met and decided to make a change to the dinner buffet choices. There is an option for “Chef’s Choice” which could be anything from a Special Events - Micki received a proposal from Corey of Dandyline Designs regarding 2 special chicken entrée to salmon to ??? There would be an additional entrée to choose from as well, in addition to the salads and side dishes. The price of $22 will remain the same and it was decided to try it until the 1st of the year. Sue & Shirley are attending the series of seminars Julie Saltoun’s firm – Schneiders & Assoc, has been holding. New Business – A discussion was held about tipping our server, Alex, more frequently. After discussion, it was decided to give him a $50 voucher to use at our silent auction, since he seems to enjoy them. Sue brought up discussion about VCPWN placing an ad in the American Latino Magazine being published by Adam Casillas of the Latino Business Expo. It was decided to wait until next year to re-visit it since deadline is 7/1/13. Discussion held regarding a laptop or netbook for Shirley and future CFO’s to use that would be loaded with software for doing invoicing and other financial reports. Since netbooks don’t have the capability of running the discs, it was decided a laptop would be better. Alison said laptops can be purchased for $300-$400. She will check on pricing.
