VENTURA COUNTY PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S NETWORK
LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETING
August 15, 2013
Communications - Michelle McConica
Everything in place for the Business Expo.
Decided ad in Ventura Star is too expensive.
It was suggested that The Breeze might write
an article if someone approached the editor.
Will be advertised on CAPS(local TV).
We need members to post information about
the Expo on their Facebook pages.
IN ATTENDANCE: Darian Taylor, Mary
Gabriels, Sue Osborn, Shirley Jones Snyder,
Michelle McConica, Sheila Lowe, Jann
Huling, Micki Rickard, Jim Nicoll, Anna
Kittleson, and Lynn Ryder.
ABSENT: Alison Balter
President Darian Taylor called the meeting to
order at 6:15 pm.
Membership/Webmaster –Sheila Lowe
We are getting a lot of non-member traffic on
Facebook, but we should only refer other
VCPWN members on the VCPWN Facebook
page.
26 new members this year.
Sheila to do a Survey Monkey to find out
what motivates people to join VCPWN but
then not attend meetings.
Suggested we ask table hostesses (or LT
Members) to train new members. Jann is
following up with guests.
There will be a membership committee table
at the Business Expo
Sheila moved that minutes of July meeting be
approved, Sue 2nd, motion carried.
DIRECTOR REPORTS:
Pres Elect/Programs- Sue Osborn –
September speaker to be Nikkea Devida,
“5 Simple Steps to Get There Faster.” We’re
still looking for a sponsor for September
meeting
October meeting will be the Business Expo.
November speaker has not yet confirmed.
Finance –Shirley Jones Snyder
Cash on hand $10,128 !
Since implementing the Square credit card
system, most of the attendees pay immediately
with c/c, so accounts receivable improved.
Shirley will be sending out letters for August,
September, and October renewals.
Networking- Alison Balter
No report.
Special Events - Micki Rickard
16 vendors signed up so far for the Expo.
Micki sent out an email blast to members and
guests to invite vendors.
1
A reminder that a meeting sponsor for $100
receives a free dinner for the member and a
guest; placement of brochures, etc. at every
table; and five (5) minutes to speak about
his/her business.
Sue continues to purchase awesome gifts for
Mary to use with her table center pieces.
Hospitality –Jann Huling
The table hostess folder is large,
overpowering, and intimidating. Jann will
bring a sample to the next LT meeting so we
can review and streamline to make it easier to
navigate through.
Jann wants to encourage new people to take
on the table hostess position, so sometime in
January she will have a training
meeting/happy hour to encourage and train
new table hostesses to be “Super Stars”.
Old Business –
Jann moved that VCPWN buy a fully loaded
laptop for Shirley Jones Snyder at a cost of
$500, Mary 2nd, motion carried.
Members at Large – Jim Nicoll and Anna
Kittleson
Jim and Anna are actively spreading the word
about our Expo at many different networking
groups. The registration fee will be waived for
anyone that joins VCPWN on Expo night.
Articles of Incorporation – Shirley has a copy.
How to read a financial statement – Not
necessary for all of LT to learn, but executive
board should be able to read and understand.
(Shirley has a meeting with Julie Saltoun
planned for next week to consult on some of
the issues regarding Executive Board,
Leadership Team, non profit status, etc.
Secretary – Lynn Ryder
Rather than send a “cold call” letter to
businesses, Lynn and Jim will personally
contact those who might be willing to sponsor
our Expo door prize of a Mini iPad.
(Approximate cost is $330). Also will be
announced to membership at next meeting
and on the website. The sponsor will receive
recognition on Facebook; an EBlast to all
members; and a picture in the Ventura Star.
Also, the sponsor will receive the space of
two (2) squares to advertise on the Expo tote
bag.
Phil Bullard, the insurance agent was unable
to attend again, so assured us he would be at
our September LT meeting. Since the policy
will be up for renewal in a few months, it was
suggested that we accept bids from insurance
agents within our membership.
New Business –
It was agreed that we should have Chef’s
Choice for the September and November
meetings.
Immediate Past President – Mary Gabriels
Center pieces made $128 last month.
September will be the last meeting this year
for the center pieces, so Mary will try to have
enough for every table.
Shirley Lorraine and Mary are working on the
Wing Beneath My Wings award. Sheila was
asked to join committee as well.
Lynn Ryder to bring copies of the Minutes to
be placed on the sign-in table for those who
do not have access to the on-line version.
Meeting adjourned 7:45 pm
Respectfully submitted by Lynn Ryder.
