VENTURA COUNTY PROFESSIONAL WOMEN’S NETWORK
LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETING
January 16, 2014

IN ATTENDANCE: Darian Taylor, Mary
Gabriels, Sue Osborn, Sheila Lowe, Michelle
McConica, Jim Nicoll and Anna Kittleson.
Jann Huling, Micki Rickard and Lynn Ryder.
For the Feb. 13 meeting, instead of
centerpieces we will give out door prizes
donated by individual members.
ABSENT: Shirley Jones Snyder
Centerpieces will return in March.
President Darian Taylor called the meeting to
order at 6:12 pm.
Valentine theme for Feb. 13 meeting….Mary
will put chocolates on the tables.
Sheila moved that minutes of November
meeting be approved, Sue 2nd, motion carried.
Membership/Webmaster –Sheila Lowe
Discouraging lack of attendance by new
members…some never even came to pick up
their badges. No amount of calling, email, etc.
has worked.
DIRECTOR REPORTS:
Pres Elect/Programs- Sue Osborn
–Marc Bachrach, a comedy hypnotist to be
February’s speaker. Still need sponsor. Sue’s
still trying to get Julia Brownley’s office to
commit for her to speak.
In March, the board meeting will be 3/13 and
the VCPWN dinner meeting will be on 3/20.
All announcements and eblasts will reflect the
change of dates just for this month.
Member at Large – Jim Nicoll
Jim has volunteered to attend any Saturday
networking events where VCPWN might be
able to seek new members.
Jim’s also willing to call old members to
encourage their attendance.
Mary suggested that we give guests a card
with 2 guest passes along with a coupon for a
discount on the next dinner when they join as
members. Mary will do a mock up of the card.
The idea is to keep track of and encourage our
repeating-periodic guests to join.
Finance –Shirley Jones Snyder
– No report. Shirley will email to all later.
Immediate Past President – Mary Gabriels
It was agreed that when Mary goes to the
VCPWN mail box, she can throw away

New Business –
- Galz Expo on April 19 at Poinsettia
Pavilion from 10am to 5pm. A 3’x 6’
table costs $150.
Sheila moved that we register for a table at
the Galz Expo. Micki 2nd. Motion carried.
Communications - Michelle McConica
Eblast will be out by January 24. Michelle sent
emails to new members to invite them to
come to our meetings. She also updated the
vertical response list.
Michelle will put a link to our VCPWN
website on the eblast so that registering for
the meeting is one step easier.

Special Events - Micki Rickard
There are 2 months until spring Silent
Auction. Micki will pick up any donations
members may have.
Hope For Kids Festival and Run on
March 15th. Looking for partners for
event. Since its in Thousand Oaks, it was
decided that we would not participate.

Micki acknowledged that Sheeler Storage has
been very accommodating. When she takes
anything over, the staff immediately takes and
puts in storage for her.
Hospitality –Jann Huling
The change-up in hostess choosing has made
it more exciting at the tables.
The greeters are doing a good job of
introducing guests around.
Networking- Anna Kittleson
Just getting her feet wet. Will learn job
description on line.
President- Darian Taylor
Old Business –
- New storage working out well.
- Mary working on nominating committee
for 2014-15 Board
- When revised, the By Laws will allow for
up to 16 voting members, so all board
members will be voting members.
- Darian will discuss renewal invoices with
Shirley.
