LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETING
February 19, 2014
IN ATTENDANCE: Sue Osborn, Darian

Kittleson, Celia Cortez, Linda Wall, Jim Nicoll
No sponsors have been booked. A discussion
on this topic ensued. See New Business.

As of 1/31/15 our bank balance was $8,120.

Nothing new to report.
President Sue called the meeting to order at
6:20 pm.
Membership – Jann Huling
In Jann’s absence, Sue announced that the
next Membership meeting would be on March
2nd at Marie Calendar. Time?
Anna moved that Minutes of the January
meeting be approved, Lynn 2nd. The Minutes
were approved as submitted.
Networking- Anna Kittleson
Anna suggested the need to reach out to local
colleges.
Anna will bring applications for the Spirit
award to the next meeting. She will also start
timing Blow Your Horn so that some
members who take advantage of the 30
second limit will be controlled.
DIRECTOR REPORTS:
President - Sue Osborn

Immediate Past President – Darian Taylor
Darian will place a “Need a Communications
Director” notice on the website. She will also
make an announcement at the next meeting
and SuzAnne will post it in the newsletter.
Brochure: Char Morla will offer some design
ideas.
Hospitality – Micki Rickard
Absent. It was decided that a hostess sheet
should once again be used at the tables to
remind hostesses of what needs to be
covered.
Pres Elect/Programs – Lynn Ryder
March speaker: Mary Cravets
April: silent auction/progressive dinner
May speaker: Martha Jaffe
June speaker: Keya Murthy
Special Events – Celia Cortez
Donations are already coming in for the April
silent auction. Celia will email the members
and request additional donations. The next

fluff party will be held on March 28th at 10:00
at Celia’s office: 2401 E. Ventura Ave. Suite
36, Oxnard.
meeting. Sue will offer to do as much of the
work as she can. Darian made a motion to
rescind our acceptance to Elaine O’Malia and
instead accept Final Code’s bid. Anna 2nd the
motion. Motion carried. There was further
discussion about a deadline. Sue will request
the April meeting if possible.
• Our insurance is renewed as of 3/8/15.
• Cal Works: Sue has been unsuccessful in
getting a response from Maria Flores, which is
disappointing.
Communications – SuzAnne Shoblom
SuzAnne was welcomed to the board with
grateful thanks for her willingness to step up.
Sue announced that SuzAnne’s dinner fees
will be waived for the remainder of the board
year. Sue will work with her and bring her up
to speed on the position. She will research
how to make SA an administrator on our
social media sites.
SuzAnne will load a buffer for VCPWN(?)
Some members have not been receiving
meeting notices.
New Business –
• Anna will meet with the representatives
from the Boys and Girls Club who attended
our last meeting as guests of Linda McCarthy.
She will suggest that some of our members
give talks in their program, and investigate
how we can partner with them.
• Darian announced that Charter College
has invited us to partner with them in an
event. She will follow up and find out what
they have in mind.
• Lynn reported that she’s had little success
in getting sponsors and this is costing us
money. Discussion ensued. Celia suggested
encouraging new members to sponsor, which
would give them additional means for the
membership to know them better. It was
decided to offer a $50 Sponsorship Special for
March through May. This will not include
dinner.
• Discussion of Jim’s suggestion of a
Dinner Club was reconsidered, where the
member would pay in advance for the year’s
dinners, getting one free. It was decided to
table this again until the new website is
launched.
Web Manager – Sheila Lowe
Lynn will send speaker information for Sheila
to update the website.
Sue asked about having the VCPWN website
transferred from Sheila’s ownership to
VCPWN. Sheila will be happy to do so as
soon as there is a decision about where to
transfer it (new owner name and address,
domain registrar and host are needed).
Member at Large – Jim Nicoll
Jim rotates six organizations where he
promotes VCPWN. He will continue to
supply membership kits, brochures, etc.
Member at Large – Mary Gabriels

Old Business –
• Website committee: Sue met with Larry
Murphy at The Final Code. He has offered a
deeply discounted fee for the new website.
His standard charge of $10k will be $2k, plus
$20/month maintenance fees. In exchange, he
requests that we promote The Final Code. He
will be invited to launch the new site at a
