ASL I, II, III
Course Description:
ASL coursework provides an emphasis
on signing, receptive skills, signing
parameters, and the glossing system,
the written system of ASL. This course
provides a historical introduction,
cultural awareness, and cross cultural
adjustment skill. Non-verbal
communication is emphasized.
Materials for class:
1. Interactive notebook (teacher
will provide for students 1
composition notebook to use
throughout the school year,
however if you are to lose it, you
are responsible for replacing the
notebook yourself)
2. Legible writing utensil (i.e. do not
use neon colors to write, the
teacher will not grade an
assignment that is not legible)
3. Loose leaf paper
Grading Policy:
Major
70%
Unit Tests, Expressive/receptive
performance tests and Projects
Minor
30%
Quizzes: Vocabulary and Grammar
(Glossing)
Daily Class Work, Homework,
Participation, Interactive Notebook
= 100%
NOTE:
The teacher will do an interactive
notebook check EVERY 6 weeks that
can be worth a Daily GRADE. So being
organized in this class has its benefits.
(keep in mind this is not limited to once
a six weeks, it may include additional
checks)
3. Re-take MUST be completed within 1
week from Gradespeed posting.
Daily Late Work Policy and
Major Project/Presentation
Late Work Policy
Student work is to be handed in the
day it is due at the time specified by
the teacher. Student work that is
handed in late will be penalized as
follows:
1st day —20 pt reduction from score
2nd day—30 pt reduction from score
3rd day—40 pt reduction from score
Daily work/Major will not be accepted
after 3 days. Also, no work will be
accepted after a grading cycle has
passed.
Re-takes
According to WHS handbook:
1. Re-take may be 1 major grade per 6
weeks if the grade is 75 or below.
2. Prior to re-take, the student MUST
complete requirement(s) per class:
* attend a tutorial regarding failed
subject matter
* do test corrections
Digital Citizenship
Electronic devices can be used for
instructional purposes only.

No picture taking, audio
recording, or video recording
during class time unless the
assignment requires it.

No texting and telephone calls
during class time.
After school activities!!!!!
If you wish to join the ASL CLUB or
be in the ASL Honor Society, We will
have meetings for both: to be
determined.
Tutoring: Every Tuesday and Thursday
after school. Other days (both morning
and after school) are by appointment.
Voice Off Policy
*Teacher will have a sign up when your
voice is not to be used and you must
use your hands for communication.
(Always be ready to sign)
