Abstract
The visiting activity to ‘Enjoy Mathematics Club’ in a local primery school is one of
the key activities of Project 10, that has been continued for four years. The activity
started with the aim of improving ‘Apathy toward science and mathematics syndrome’
locally, which was too big to provide concrete ground for the activity. In those years,
however, changes in domestic educational circumstance has provided good ground for
the activity: In the latest internatinal achievement test, PISA, to students under fifteen
years, Japan rose in rank though awareness of wide applicability of mathematics to
things aouund them is not yet insufficient. With the aim of developping the awareness
of applicability, the latst goverment course guideline for matheatics includes a new
teaching item, ‘Sansuu-teki Katsuyou (mathematical application activity)’, Accordingly,
the visiting activity has come to be satisfactorily placed as as a support for ‘Sansuu-teki
Katsudo’, that expands the horizons of the participants of the club on mathematics. The
Group A of Project 10 aims at development and practice of learning program for ‘Enjoy
Mathematics Club’ at Kashiwano primary school under the cooperation agreements
between Hakodate school board and Future University Hakodate. The program consists
of five subjects, entitled ‘binary numbers and their operation’, ’pixel art’, ’Pascal’s
triangle’, ’braid’, and ’arithmetic in the world ’. The activities of Group A through
2014 are reported together with evaluations by the participating school lids and by the
audience of the intermediate and the final presentations.
