Abstract
The project goal is to encourage the public transportation in Hakodate. Recently, approximately 70% of the traffic in Hakodate is occupied by car. In average, the Hakodate
citizens use the public transportation only 13 times a year. So, we have found the vicious cycle in which the car users increase, the bus users decline, deficit-ridden lines are
eliminated, and the bus users even less. Then, we decided to explore the reason why
many Hakodate citizens have selected cars as a mobility means.
At first, to give it priority to comprehend a close situation, we carried out the questionnaire survey to students and the interview to the faculty members and students
at FUN(Future University Hakodate). In this survey, although we found many FUN
students had strong possessive desires to cars, we could not identify the firm reasons for
it. So, it suggested that the FUN students likely selected a car as a mobility means for
a vague reason. We call the trend ”automobile-depndency thinking.”
Therefore, we set up the goal in the second semester as giving to the FUN students an
opportunity in which they reconsider the selection of a mobility means. For example,
we will build a system which suggest a mobility means by entering personal data, such
as settled areas and hobbies. Also we will hold an event in which many of the Hakodate
citizens experience and feel the enchantment and effectiveness of bike and bus. These
attempts may yield the alleviation of ”automobile-depndency thinking” and the increase
of public-transportation users. As a result, we expect that the project becomes the first
step towards encouraging the public transportation in Hakodate.
