Tutorial Times: Monday during “A” Lunch
Wednesdays during “A” lunch
Course Description/Objectives:
 Overview: The study of Geometry serves as a foundation class for high school mathematics as well as other advanced
mathematical courses. Within the class, geometric thinking and spatial reasoning will be emphasized along with the study of
geometric figures and their properties. Students will engage in higher level thinking about geometric properties and
underlying mathematical processes. As they do Geometry, students continually use problem – solving, language and
communication, connections within and outside mathematics, and reasoning (justification and proof).
 Instructional methods: lecture, discovery, think-pair-share, collaborative work, and other best practices defined by HISD
 Goals: critical reading, analytical thinking, creative synthesis and problem-solving, and attention to detail in all work and
study habits.
 Objective: preparation for higher level math and science courses in high school and beyond
 Students should expect at least 30 minutes of homework per day in this course.
Course Calendar/Schedule:
 Each six weeks students will receive a calendar with topics, as well as quiz and test dates. Your calendar should be kept
accessible at all times. Additional copies can be printed from the teacher website.
 Homework is due at the beginning of the next class meeting.
 Quizzes will usually be announced, but can be unannounced – be prepared at any time for an evaluation of your progress
 Test: Look on your Course Calendar for test dates → DO NOT MISS A TEST!!! IF YOU ARE ABSENT ON TEST
DAY, YOU WILL MAKE UP THE TEST ON THE DAY YOU RETURN, AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR WORK
MISSED WHILE TESTING!!!!
Tutorials:
 If you are not completing homework, tutorial attendance will become mandatory. Failure to attend may result in disciplinary
consequences.
 If you are earning a D or F average in the course, then you are expected to attend tutorials at least twice a week.
Grading Procedures:
 Student work should demonstrate understanding of the problem assigned. Each problem should demonstrate understanding
of the concepts being learned and good usage of mathematical symbols.
 Solutions should NEVER just be a single number without some description of how you got that number.
 No Work = No Credit (NWNC). All work for worksheets should be done on a sheet of paper and kept with the
worksheet.
 Make-ups: It is the students’ responsibility to take care of make up work.
 “Make-ups” on homework assignments are due in accordance to days absent.
 There will be no make-ups on quizzes. You must make attending class a priority. A missed quiz will be replaced by the
next test grade on that material.
 Make-ups for tests will occur within 5 school days of your absence. If you know you will miss a test prior to its administration,
you will need to make arrangements to take the test after your return. If you fail to make-up your work with 5 days your
will receive zeros for all missing assignments including tests.
 Missed quizzes will not be made up. The test following a quiz will replace the missing quiz grade. If a student fails a quiz,
and the test grade over the same material is higher than the quiz grade, then it will be replaced by the test grade up to a
grade of 75. If a student fails the test, there will be one opportunity to re-test. This re-test grade will replace the failing
test grade with a grade of up to 75. No alternate days for the re-test will be given unless prearranged with the teacher . In
order to retake the test a student must have completed all assignments (0 assignments will be replaced with a 25) over the
material, attend one tutorial, and submit a retake form. Retests will be given in the mini-theater on Fridays during
lunch(occasionally on Tuesdays during lunch), if you cannot be there, then you need to discuss this with your teacher.

Absences:
Students should contact the teacher via email when they are absent. I will provide them a copy of the lesson notes via email. In
addition, they should follow the calendar and attempt the work for that day. This will prevent students from falling behind in
their course work. The Geometry book is a resource to be kept at home, to aid students when they are out or while
completing homework. It is unnecessary for students to carry the book between home and school.
Student Expectations:
When you come to class…
1. Be on time
2. Wear your ID
3. Silence all electronic devices and place them out of sight
4. Take care of the “Do First” when you come in to class
5. Be ready to learn and ask questions.
