Week 9

Westside High School Lesson Plan
Zita
Unit Name and #:
Course:
Geometry PAP
Dates:
Tuesday
Monday
Teacher Name:
Chapter 12A Volume
of Geometric Solids
3/2/15-3/6/15
Topic: Volume of Cylinders, Cones, and Spheres
What are we learning?
Daily Objective:
 I will be able to find the volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres.
TEKS/AP/Standards:
 G.1.B: Recognize the historical development of geometric systems and know
mathematics is developed for a variety of purposes
 G.6.A: Describe and draw the intersection of a given plane with various threedimensional geometric figures
 G.8.D: Analyze the characteristics of polyhedral and other three-dimensional figures
and their component parts based on explorations and concrete models
How will we learn it?
Learning Activities:
 Teacher and students will have a discussion about the relationship between the
volume of a cylinder and cone.
 Students will work on guided practice over volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres.
How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly
Assessment Methods:
 Guided Practice
Checks for Understanding:
 Teacher will walk around while students are working on guided practice.
What do I need to be successful?
 Chapter 12A Packet
What do I need to before next class?
Follow Up/HW:
 HW: Pg. 7-9, 11 #6,7,9,11 and 12 #13-21
 EOC #4 due Wed
Topic: 12.7 SA and Volume of Similar Figures
What are we learning?
Daily Objective:
 I will be able to find the surface areas and volumes of similar figures.
TEKS/AP/Standards:
 G.5.B: Use numeric and geometric patterns to make generalizations about geometric
properties, including properties of polygons, ratio in similar figures and solids, and
angle relationships in polygons and circles.
 G.6.A: Find surface areas and volumes of prisms, pyramids, spheres, cones, cylinders,
and composites of these figures in problem situations
 G.8.D: Find surface areas and volumes of prisms, pyramids, spheres, cones, cylinders,
and composites of these figures in problem situations
 G.11.B: Use ratios to solve problems involving similar figures
 G.11.D: Describe the effect on perimeter, area, and volume when one or more
dimensions of a figure are changed and apply this idea in solving problems.
Wed/Thur
Friday
How will we learn it?
Learning Activities:
 Students will review and find the ratio of similar 2-D figures. Students will then
discover the ratio of surface area and volume of two similar solids.
How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly
Assessment Methods:
 Guided Practice
Checks for Understanding:
 Teacher will walk around while students are working on guided practice.
