historical, social, and economic ideas of its time; SWBAT make inferences and draw
conclusions about author’s purpose in historical /contemporary contexts and provide
evidence from text to support their premise.

Learning Activities: Novel, The Stranger, read aloud in class-Part 2, Chapter 1; discussion
questions (included in handout) for chapter 1; Socratic discussion; literary devicessymbols/existentialist ideals/irony/Meursault’s childlike behavior
How will we tell if we’re learning it correctly?
Reading comprehension/discussion questions; Socratic discussion of subtext, reinforce ideas
of existential literature
