Course objectives
Students in Pre-AP French 2 will acquire high frequency structures and vocabulary in order to:




Comprehend basic texts such as stories, poems, songs and readings
Produce complete and comprehensible texts on a variety of topics
Comprehend spoken French via audio recordings, teacher-led dictées and conversations
Produce complete, comprehensible and ultimately spontaneous speech over a variety of topics
Materials




“Bon Voyage Level 2” textbook. It’s green. Should be kept at home as a reference.
Notebook for French only. Preferably a hard-cover composition notebook.
Pens and pencils
Folder or binder for handouts.
Weekly routine
Monday – Oral practice with new vocabulary structures
Tuesday – Oral practice with new vocabulary structures (class story)
Wednesday/Thursday – Reading and Writing
Friday – Cultural reading and/or discussion of various cultural topics
We will try our best to stick to this weekly routine in order to give you an idea of what to expect each day
and what you may have missed if you happen to be absent.
Grades


Minor Grades – 30% daily exit quizzes, unannounced quizzes, homework, etc
Major Grades – 70% formal writings, poetry recitations, projects
Please refer to The Westside Way for the 2014-2015 retake policy on major grades.
Absences Please refer to the calendar and/or ask a classmate for what you missed while absent. Exams
dates are always planned well in advance and must be taken the day you return to school if you missed one.
Leaving the classroom Students are only permitted to leave the classroom for true emergencies. Please
take care of personal business outside of classtime.
Student conduct Students are to follow all school wide polices regarding safety and conduct in class.
Westside’s disciplinary management system will be implemented when necessary and as described in The
Westside Way.
Electronics policy Electronic devices may not be out during class unless I have asked you to use it for an
educational purpose or you have asked permission to use it briefly. If I have to ask you to put it away more
than one time it will be collected and turned into the main office.
