N A E C O E T A M I L C d an or life f s e g n a h Exc This exhibition has been devised and produced by the IRD with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development. It has been granted the label International Year for Planet Earth 2008 conferred by the Académie des Sciences, Paris (French Academy of Sciences). The Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD) is present in the whole of the tropical regions and fulfils three vital roles: research, expertise and training. Its research programmes are centred on the relationships between humans and their environment in the countries of the South with the objective of contributing to their sustainable development. The Institute is engaged in a large range of European and international scientific programmes and conducts its research closely with its partner countries. MINISTÈRE DES AFFAIRES ÉTRANGÈRES ET DU DÉVELOPPEMENT INTERNATIONAL The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development with its overseas network and research organizations is undertaking an action founded on the internationalization of French research and support of sustainable development. In this context, it is developing a scientific partnership policy, especially with the countries of the European Area and the emerging countries and is supporting innovation and technological partnerships. Furthermore, it is helping scientific communities of the South by strengthening their national research capacities and systems.
