Today’s Game
Liberty (7-7, 2-1 Big South) will take to the road for six of its next eight games, a stretch
which begins with a Saturday matinee at Coastal Carolina (9-4, 2-2 Big South). Tipoff is
set for 2 p.m. inside Kimbel Arena, where the Lady Flames will aim for their 37th straight
victory in their head-to-head series against the Chanticleers.
The “Starting Five” - Today’s Top Storylines
1) Liberty has defeated Coastal Carolina 36 straight times since the Chanticleers’ last victory over the Lady Flames on Feb. 19, 1996. That is the seventh-longest active winning
streak against a single opponent in NCAA Division I women’s basketball.
2) Something has to give inside Kimbel Arena on Saturday. Coastal Carolina is a perfect
8-0 at home so far this year, but Liberty enters the contest having posted 15 straight wins
at Kimbel Arena. The Lady Flames, who are 77-10 in Big South road games under head
coach Carey Green, handed Coastal Carolina its first home loss of the 2009-10 season.
That year, the Chanticleers also started out 8-0 at home.
3) Two of the Big South’s best defensive squads will square off on Saturday. Coastal
Carolina ranks second in the conference for scoring defense (56.8 ppg), while Liberty is
third (58.4 ppg). Only one visiting team has scored 60 points at Kimbel Arena this season.
4) Saturday’s contest will be the first meeting between a pair of talented freshman point
guards--Liberty’s Reagan Miller and Coastal Carolina’s Shatia Cole. Miller tops Big South
freshmen in assists (3.8 apg), while Cole is the Chanticleers’ leading scorer at 10.8 ppg.
5) Avery Warley played a key role in two close victories by the Lady Flames over the
Chanticleers last year. At the Vines Center on Jan. 24, 2011, Warley blocked a shot,
grabbed two rebounds and made all four of her free throw attempts during the final 85
seconds of a 58-54 Liberty win. Warley then posted 12 points, a game-high 19 rebounds
and three blocked shots during the Lady Flames’ come-from-behind 51-44 triumph on
March 11, 2011 in the Big South Championship quarterfinals.

this year. Liberty recorded a 57-38 victory at Coastal Carolina on Jan. 25, 2010, after the
Chanticleers had won their first eight home games of the campaign. Something will have
to give, as the Lady Flames have been victorious in 15 straight trips to Kimbel Arena.

Liberty scored 90 points during its win over Campbell on Monday, reaching the 90-point
plateau for just the fourth time ever in a Big South Conference matchup and the first time
since a 94-66 victory at UNC Asheville on Feb. 27, 2010.

A Look Back at Liberty’s Home Win over Campbell on Monday
-- Liberty posted a 90-61 home victory over Campbell on Monday, marking the Lady
Flames’ fourth 90-point outburst ever in a Big South game and their first since a 94-66
triumph at UNC Asheville on Feb. 27, 2010.
-- The game was the first meeting between the Lady Flames and Camels since Nov. 29,
1999.
-- Liberty shot 52.2 percent from the field, improving to 3-0 this season and 81-1 under
head coach Carey Green when making at least half of its field goals.
-- In a battle between the Big South’s two top rebounding teams, the Lady Flames enjoyed
a decisive 45-27 advantage on the glass. It was the 41st straight time Liberty has won the
rebounding battle.
-- Liberty also held its 36th consecutive opponent below 50 percent from the field, holding
Campbell to a .441 field goal percentage.
-- Devon Brown led all players with 25 points in just 25 minutes of action. She passed Pam
Wilder and moved into 11th place in program history with 1,124 career points.
-- Danika Dale’s 15 points tied her career high. She also claimed a spot on Liberty’s top
50 rebounders list with 307 career boards.
-- Avery Warley scored in double figures for the ninth straight game, ending the contest
with 11 points.
-- Reagan Miller tied her career high with eight assists and also drained three triples, becoming the first Lady Flame to post that combination of statistics since Sharon Wilkerson
had eight assists and a trio of three-pointers at Charleston Southern on Jan. 24, 2000.
-- LaKendra Washington was Liberty’s top bench scorer for the eighth time in her 12
games this season, finishing with nine points.
On the Road Again
-- Liberty’s Saturday game at Coastal Carolina will be the team’s first visit outside the Virginia state borders since the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament (Nov. 25-26). The Lady
Flames’ last eight contests have been played within the Commonwealth.
-- Beginning with Saturday’s tilt, the Lady Flames will play six of their next eight contests
away from the Vines Center.
Road Warriors
-- Liberty has played well in road Big South Conference matchups in recent years, going
77-10 under head coach Carey Green. The Lady Flames have never lost more than two
road conference games in a season since Green took over as head coach prior to the
1999-2000 campaign.
-- The Lady Flames, who went 7-1 in Big South road tilts last season, won their first Big
South road game of the year on Dec. 31, with a 76-68 decision at Radford.
Windex Warley
-- Avery Warley rebounded her own missed shot with 8:03 remaining in the first half of the
Jan. 7 game against High Point, giving her 1,034 career boards. That broke Katie Feenstra’s (2001-05) Liberty career rebounding record of 1,033 caroms.
-- Warley now has 1,055 rebounds for her career. That ranks second in Big South Conference history, 72 boards behind former Charleston Southern standout Kate Sanford’s
(1996-2000) conference record of 1,127 career rebounds.
