Liberty LADY FLAMES
(4-5, 0-0 Big South)
Lynchburg, Va. - Vines Center - 7 p.m.
Today’s Game
Liberty (4-5) will close out its quick two-game homestand Thursday at 7 p.m., when Virginia Union (2-4) visits the Vines Center. The Lady Flames, seeking their second home win
in six days, will attempt to improve to 6-0 all-time against the Panthers. It will be Liberty’s
final non-conference home game of the 2011-12 regular season and will be the last time
the Lady Flames play inside the Vines Center until Jan. 7.
The “Starting Five” - Today’s Top Storylines
1) Liberty will look to build upon its offensive explosion during Saturday’s victory over
Glenville State, which saw the Lady Flames rack up 116 points. Liberty has only posted
back-to-back 100-point performances once in program history, during its first season of
collegiate basketball in 1975-76.
2) The Lady Flames will aim to post back-to-back home wins for the first time this season.
Additionally, Thursday’s contest will be the team’s final home game during the calendar
year 2011. Liberty is 9-3 at the Vines Center in 2011.
3) Thursday’s game falls at the conclusion of Liberty’s finals week. The last two years, the
Lady Flames have lost their first game after final exams wrapped up, including a 50-48
setback at North Carolina Central last season.
4) Liberty players have celebrated career milestones in each of the past two contests,
with Devon Brown reaching 1,000 points at Virginia on Dec. 7 and Avery Warley grabbing
her 1,000th rebound on Saturday versus Glenville State. The Lady Flames will be hardpressed to post a milestone on Thursday, as Warley needs 33 rebounds to break Katie
Feenstra’s career program record of 1,033 boards.
5) Liberty met Virginia Union senior forward Vicki Collier for the first time as a player for
Old Dominion in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Then, they faced her as a Virginia Union
assistant coach last season. Now, Collier is the Panthers’ leading scorer (18.0 ppg) and
rebounder (10.3 rpg).

-- The Lady Flames posted a 100-29 victory over the Panthers on Nov. 30, 2007, which
was Liberty’s last 100-point game before Saturday’s 116-65 victory against Glenville State.
-- Last year, Liberty limited Virginia Union to 19 points on Nov. 16, 2010, equaling the fewest points allowed in Vines Center history.
-- Liberty and Virginia Union have one opponent in common so far this season, North
Carolina A&T. The Aggies posted a 103-61 home win over the Panthers on Nov. 15, three
days before North Carolina A&T defeated Liberty by an 81-74 score on the same court.
-- Virginia Union, an NCAA Division II squad, has not been afraid to play against Division I
teams this season. Liberty will be the fourth Division I opponent the Panthers have faced
in their first seven tilts of the 2011-12 season. Virginia Union is 0-3 against Division I foes
this year, losing to Elon (70-46), North Carolina A&T (103-61) and Norfolk State (76-58).
-- Vicki Collier, the Panthers’ leading scorer (18.0 ppg) and rebounder (10.3), is the daughter of head coach Barvenia Wooten-Cherry. Collier was one of her mother’s assistant
coaches last season before returning to the court this season. Collier started her collegiate career at Old Dominion and was on the Monarchs’ roster when Liberty played ODU
in the 2008 NCAA Tournament. However, she did not play in that game due to injury.
