Liberty LADY FLAMES
(3-5, 0-0 Big South)
Lynchburg, Va. - Vines Center - 4 p.m.
Today’s Game
Liberty (3-5) will open a quick two-game homestand against NCAA Division II opponents
Saturday at 4 p.m., when high-scoring Glenville State (6-2) visits the Vines Center for the
third straight season. The Liberty-Glenville State game will open a doubleheader with the
Liberty men’s basketball team at the Vines Center, which also includes a tilt between the
Flames and Virginia Intermont at 7 p.m.
The “Starting Five” - Today’s Top Storylines
1) Saturday’s game will mark a constrast in styles. Glenville State, which has led the nation’s NCAA Division II teams in scoring each of the past two seasons under head coach
Bunky Harkleroad, is averaging 101.9 ppg this year. Meanwhile, the Lady Flames are only
allowing opponents to score 55.9 ppg in 2011-12 and are holding opposing teams to 34.8
percent field goal shooting.
2) Liberty has done a good job of slowing down the Pioneers’ attack during their last two
meetings. The Lady Flames won both contests, thanks in large part to limiting Glenville
State to 60.0 ppg.
3) The Lady Flames will aim to avoid their first three-game losing streak since Nov. 22Dec. 7, 2008, when Liberty dropped five games in a row. Meanwhile, Liberty will attempt
to snap Glenville State’s current three-game winning streak. The Pioneers have scored in
triple digits in all three contests and are averaging 112.0 ppg during the span.
4) With a big rebounding effort on Saturday (17 rebounds), Avery Warley could become
the third player in program history and the fourth player in Big South Conference history
to grab 1,000 career boards.
5) Devon Brown will play her first game as a member of Liberty’s 1,000-point club, after
reaching the career milestone during Wednesday’s game at Virginia. Brown, who has
1,011 career points, was the fifth-fastest Lady Flame ever to reach 1,000 points. The
Waynesboro, Va., native took only 65 games to get there.
