Liberty LADY FLAMES
(3-3, 0-0 Big South)
Lynchburg, Va. - Vines Center - 7 p.m.
Today’s Game
Liberty (3-3) will begin a stretch where five of its next six contests will be against in-state
opponents Thursday, when James Madison (4-0) visits the Vines Center for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
This will be the sixth straight season that the Commonwealth foes have matched up in
women’s basketball, with JMU winning four of the previous five meetings. James Madison
is ranked fifth in the Mid-Major Women’s Top 25 poll this week, with Liberty at No. 24.
The “Starting Five” - Today’s Top Storylines
1) Liberty will aim for its second all-time win against local rival James Madison, which
owns a 6-1 lead in the all-time head-to-head series. The Lady Flames’ first win over the
Dukes came when JMU entered the game with a 6-0 record, on Dec. 4, 2007.
2) The game will match up two programs which have been extremely successful in recent
years. Liberty is 104-33 since the start of the 2007-08 season, while James Madison is
104-35 over the same span.
3) Liberty has outrebounded 33 consecutive opponents, dating back to last season. That
streak will be put to the test on Thursday, as James Madison ranks No. 20 nationally with
a +11.0 rebound margin this year.
4) Devon Brown, who grew up about 30 miles from James Madison’s campus, in Waynesboro, Va., needs 20 points to become the 14th 1,000-point scorer in Liberty women’s
basketball history. The redshirt junior has missed the last two games after her mother,
Jennifer Brown, died on Nov. 22.
5) Reigning Big South Freshman of the Week Reagan Miller will look to continue her hot
shooting, after making 50 percent (7-of-14) of her three-pointers in the last three contests.

Notes and Anecdotes
-- Liberty’s only win over James Madison came when the Dukes were undefeated. JMU
entered the Vines Center with a 6-0 record on Dec. 4, 2007, but the Lady Flames handed
the Dukes a 79-66 setback.
-- Liberty’s Devon Brown has a number of connections with James Madison. She grew up
in Waynesboro, Va., which is only about 30 miles from JMU’s campus in Harrisonburg, Va.
Brown also graduated from the same high school (Waynesboro High School) as James
Madison head coach Kenny Brooks.
-- One of the biggest wins of Brown’s high school basketball career at Waynesboro came
against Turner Ashby, a 58-57 buzzer-beating victory in the 2008 Region III semifinals.
Two of Turner Ashby’s key players in that game were Kirby Burkholder and Nikki Newman,
both of whom are now starting for James Madison.
-- Liberty and James Madison are two of the top rebounding teams in the nation. The Lady
Flames rank No. 5 nationally in rebound margin (+15.2), while the Dukes check in at No.

-- Liberty’s 70-27 win over Lipscomb in the consolation game marked the first time the
Lady Flames have held an opponent to fewer than 30 points since a 71-19 home win over
Virginia Union on Nov. 16, 2010.
-- Liberty outrebounded both the Sooners and Lady Bisons by an average of 16.0 rebounds per contest, extending its streak to 33 straight games of winning the rebounding
battle.
-- Liberty had not put three players into double figures in rebounds in the same game since
Dec. 29, 2008 against North Carolina A&T before accomplishing the feat in both games
at Vanderbilt. Catherine Kearney, Terika Lunsford and Avery Warley grabbed 10 rebounds
apiece against Oklahoma. The next day, versus Lipscomb, Tolu Omotola grabbed 12
boards, while Danika Dale and Avery Warley added 10 caroms apiece.
-- Seniors Danika Dale and Avery Warley each posted 11 points and 10 rebounds against
Lipscomb, and it was the first double-double of the season for both players. Warley now
has 33 career double-doubles, while it was the first for Dale as a Lady Flame.
-- Avery Warley climbed past former teammate Megan Frazee on the Liberty and Big
South career rebounding lists with 20 rebounds in the two contests at Vanderbilt. Warley
now ranks third in program history and fourth in conference history with 968 career boards.
