KITE PhD course invitation

First announcement of PhD course 9-14 September, 2012
The Dynamics of Knowledge Integration
Doctoral students are hereby invited to apply to the PhD course “The Dynamics of Knowledge
Integration”, organised by KITE research team at Linköping University, Sweden
(www.liu.se/kite). The course is equivalent to 6 ECTS credits (plus optional 4 ECTS credits
for a course paper).
CONTENTS
Integrating knowledge has become increasingly important to master innovation processes and
complex problem-solving within and between technology-based firms competing in a global
context. The many challenges of knowledge integration (KI) have also attracted a growing
number of scholars from various disciplines. The objective of
the course is to introduce the participants to theories on KI,
and discuss methodologies to capture it. The course will also
examine the dynamic feature of KI in relation to adjacent
research areas, such as, innovation, knowledge creation, interorganisational management and outsourcing.
The literature that will be studied ranges from texts that can be
regarded as key in forming the foundation of KI theories, to
more recent texts that link KI to other research areas. The main
course book will be Knowledge Integration & Innovation:
Critical Challenges Facing International Technology-Based
Firms (Berggren, et al, 2011, Oxford University Press).
TARGET GROUP
The course is aimed at a broad range of PhD students, with the main requirement that their
subject area can be clearly related to KI. This opens up for doctoral projects within many
areas, such as, project management, innovation, technology management, new product
development, operations management, supply chain management, strategic management,
knowledge management and organizational studies, to name a few.
ORGANIZATION
The course consists of five days of intensive sessions, of which two days includes active
participation in the 3rd advanced KITE workshop on Knowledge Integration and Innovation.
Please note that, for those who are planning to present a paper at the workshop, a separate
application needs to be sent to KITE (see Call for Papers on www.liu.se/kite).
Individual preparations are required prior to the course. There is also an option to complete a
course paper after the five days in Linköping, following a tutored process and including a peer
review assignment. A full course description will be available on KITE website by the end of
March 2012.
COURSE FACULTY
Several of the authors of the book Knowledge Integration and Innovation will be involved in
delivering the course. Furthermore, prominent guests external to the KITE research team will
take part in discussing the students’ course assignments. More detailed information about the
course faculty will be available at www.liu.se/kite by the end of March 2012.
