Lisam, introduction

Welcome to Lisam, Linköping University’s social collaboration platform for learning! Lisam will be
your entrance to all services related to your studies. In order to log in to Lisam, please navigate to
lisam.liu.se with your favourite web browser. You can also click on one of the Lisam links that can be
found here and there on our web pages. Use your LiU-id to login. You can log in to Lisam even if you
only have a temporary LiU-id. The first thing you will see in Lisam is your own personal start page.
You can easily search in everything in
Lisam you are allowed to access.
Under the Messages heading you will find important
information from teachers in your courses.
My courses shows you a list of your courses and
gives you access to the course rooms. About Me
allows you to change your personal settings, and
via About Lisam you can find information on how
Lisam works.
In the newsfeed you will find posts
from course rooms, collaboration
rooms or persons you have chosen to
follow.
Please note that you have to register for your course (in the Student Portal) before you get access to
your course room in Lisam. This process may take up to the next working day.
If you ever get lost inside Lisam, you can always come back to your start page by clicking on
Newsfeed in the top blue bar.

E-mail and calendar
In Lisam you have access to your student e-mail account (using the Outlook link in the top blue bar).
Your student e-mail is used for important information from different parts of the university, e.g.
exam results and reminders from the library. It is important that you check your e-mail regularly, and
of course you don’t necessarily have to do this via Lisam. You can use your smartphone if you like.
Read more about different settings on student.liu.se or contact the student helpdesk.
Your personal calendar and contact list is connected to your e-mail account. Please notice that all of
these services are unavailabe if you only have a temporary LiU-id. You have to activate the account to
access your e-mail. Also notice that e-mail through Lisam is currently only available for students
admitted from fall 2013.
OneDrive and Office 365
In the top blue bar you will also find OneDrive, your personal file storage in Lisam. Here you can save
your own personal files, and with a few simple clicks you can share these with other persons in
Lisam. Your files are always available, regardless of where your are or which device you use to access
Lisam. Office 365 also allows you to create and edit Office documents (such as Word, Excel or
PowerPoint) directly in your web browser.
1. Click on the file name to view the content.
2. Select to edit the file in Word Online.
3. A web version of Word appears where the most basic functions are available.
The online versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint are available in your own OneDrive, but also in
course rooms and collaboration rooms.

Newsfeed
Each course room and collaboration room has its own newsfeed that works much the same as in
other social media platforms. You can create posts that other people can comment and like. The
newsfeed in a course room is only accessible for the teachers and students in that course. If you
don’t want to circulate among all your current course rooms, just to check if there are any news, you
can choose to follow them. All feeds that you follow will be collected on your start page, and here
you can also participate in them.
1. Navigate to the course room you want to follow and click FOLLOW at the top right.
2. The feed from that course room is now visible on your start page, and each post clearly indicate in
which course room it was written.
All rooms that you follow are also listed under Websites, available in the top blue bar. Here you can
also choose to stop following them. You can follow individual persons as well, but you can only see
what they post in rooms where you are a member yourself.
If you select Share with everyone on the start page, your post will end up in the general newsfeed
that everyone (all students and all employees) can read. You can read the general newsfeed by
clicking Everyone on the start page.
Just like on other social media sites, you can use hashtags and mention people. Tag your posts with
#Lisamfeedback if you have suggestions on how to make Lisam better. Direct posts towards specific
persons by writing e.g. @Kalle Karlsson. Already when you write @ Lisam will suggest people to
mention. Read more about these features in About Lisam.
Collaboration rooms
Collaboration rooms work much the same as course room, but with the important difference that
anyone can create them. Click on My collaborations on the start page to see the rooms that you have
access to, or create new ones. You can create collaboration rooms for course projects, for student
associations or for your private study group. The person who creates the room will automatically be
the owner, and have the rights to change the setup and invite anyone with a LiU-id. Read more about
collaboration rooms on About Lisam.

Changing the language
The language in Lisam is by default Swedish, but you can easily change this. Since this can be a bit
tricky if you don’t read Swedish, here is a short guide (with Swedish screenshots).
1. On your start page, click Om mig
(About me).
2. On your personal information page, click on
redigera din profil (edit your profile) in the top
right corner.
3. Among the different settings headers, click on the three dots and then on Språk och region
(Language and region) in the menu that appears.
4. Since this is probably the first time you access the language settings, the first step is to add
another favourite language besides Swedish. Click on Lägg till (Add) and choose a suitable language.
Once your have added another language, use the small arrows in the list to move the other language
to the top of the list. This will change display language priorities. When you are finished, click Spara
alla och stäng (Save all and close) at the bottom of the page.
Please note that it will take some time for your langauge settings to take effect. It can take up to five
minutes, and you have to reload the page to see the new language.
Also note that this setting only affects the general menus and dialogues in Lisam. Each course room
will be either in Swedish or in English, and this is fixed when the course room is created.
