1. Penn State – UNSW Course Substitutions
ME 370 – MMAN 3300 (4 cr); ≈ 60% of ME370 (2 cr); remainder is kinematics (1.5 cr) and gear
design (0.5 cr)
ME 450 – MMAN 3200 – needs to be evaluated.
MMAN 3400 – Engineering Technical Elective

2. MECH 4300 – MMAN 3300 is a prerequisite: Not an option now
3. MECH 4305 is being permanently cancelled
MMAN 3300 – will be revised to include fundamentals of vibrations (from MECH 4305)
4. Credit Conversion – From Penn State Study Abroad
24 credit points per semester = full-time load at UNSW
most classes are 6 credit points; half-classes are 3 credit points
6 UNSW credit points = 4 PSU credits
3 UNSW credit points = 2 PSU credits
5. MMAN 3200, MMAN 3300 and MMAN 3400 will transfer as 12 Penn State credits.
a. 6 credits should cover ME370 & ME450 (6 Penn State credits);
b. MMAN 3400 will be an ETE (3 Penn State credits)
c. Cumulative remaining 3 credits will be applied as a second ETE (3 credits).
6. If MMAN 3200 cannot be used substituted for ME450 it can be used as an ETE or GTE. Revised
UNSW – Penn State transfer:
a. 3 credits: ME370 (ME3200)
b. 9 credits of METE, ETE & GTE
7. Other UNSW courses suitable as a Engineering Technical Electives (ETE) - None
Mostly 4th year courses and Penn State students do not have all the background yet
8. Are there any course capacity limit issues?
At the volume being discussed (5/year), no worries.
9. What courses are available for General Education (GA, GH, GS)?
Many choices available.
