Today’s Game
Liberty (0-4) will continue its season-long four-game road swing Monday at 7 p.m. with
the Lady Flames’ first-ever meeting with Kutztown (3-2) of NCAA Division II’s PSAC East
Division. The contest inside Keystone Arena will be classified as a regular-season game
for the Lady Flames but an exhibition contest for the Golden Bears.
The “Starting Five” - Today’s Top Storylines
1) Liberty, off to its first 0-4 start since the 1993-94 Lady Flames began the year 0-7, will
play on the road against a non-Division I opponent for the first time since that season. The
1993-94 squad notched its first win on Jan. 6, 1994 with a 90-61 decision at Cedarville of
the NAIA.
2) Liberty will be aiming to snap its five-game losing streak, which dates back to last season. Meanwhile, Kutztown enters the contest having won three consecutive games.
3) Liberty will be playing its fourth straight opponent with a winning record, as Kutztown
has improved to 3-2 on the year with three consecutive close victories. The Lady Flames
previously lost to 1-0 James Madison, 2-1 Virginia and 3-1 Saint Joseph’s during this current run.
4) The Lady Flames are playing their second first-time opponent in a row, following their
77-65 setback at Saint Joseph’s on Saturday. All of Liberty’s foes on this four-game road
trip will be teams the Lady Flames have never faced before.
5) Kutztown will be challenged to deal with the Lady Flames’ size. Nicole Donahue is the
Golden Bears’ tallest starter at 6-0. Meanwhile, Liberty counters with 6-4 Ashley Rininger
and 6-6 Catherine Kearney, with 6-5 Katelyn Adams coming in off of the bench.

Notes and Anecdotes
• For the fourth straight game, Liberty will be facing an opponent with a winning record.
Kutztown has won three consecutive contests, pushing the Golden Bears’ mark to 3-2.
Kutztown, which has won the trio of games by a combined seven points, will leave Monday’s game with its winning record intact, as the Golden Bears are classifying the matchup
as an exhibition.
• Kutztown will be Liberty’s second straight first-time opponent, following the Lady Flames’
inaugural matchup with Saint Joseph’s on Saturday. All four of Liberty’s foes on this extended road swing are first-time opponents, as the Lady Flames have never faced Fresno
State, Seton Hall or Savannah State on the hardwood either.
• This marks Liberty’s first road game against a non-Division I opponent since Jan. 6,
1994, when the Lady Flames recorded a 90-61 win at NAIA Cedarville. That marked Liberty’s first win of the season after an 0-7 start. This year’s 0-4 beginning marks the Lady
Flames’ worst start to a season since then.
• Liberty has faced two current PSAC members in program history, as the Lady Flames
are 1-8 all-time against Pitt-Johnstown and 2-0 versus West Chester. However, Liberty
has not played either of those two teams since Feb. 15, 1988.
• Liberty assistant coach Andrea “Andy” Bloodworth is familiar with Gannon of the PSAC,
spending three seasons (2002-03, 2003-04 and 2004-05) as an assistant coach there.
However, the Golden Knights were members of the GLIAC at that time, before moving to
the PSAC in time for the 2008-09 season.
• Liberty played Kutztown in football for four consecutive seasons (1988 through 1991),
going 3-1 against the Golden Bears on the gridiron. The Flames men’s basketball team
was victorious against Kutztown during their only meeting, on Nov. 22, 1986. In baseball,
Liberty is 3-1 versus the Golden Bears, including a doubleheader sweep in 2003.

Road Warriors
This marks Liberty’s longest road trip of the 2013-14 season, as the Lady Flames will
leave campus on Nov. 22 and not return until Dec. 1. During that time, Liberty will play
four first-time opponents in eight days, including Saint Joseph’s (Nov. 23), Kutztown (Nov.
25), Fresno State (Nov. 29) and either Savannah State or Seton Hall (Nov. 30). The Lady
Flames will also do some sightseeing in Philadelphia and New York City and visit Catherine Kearney’s hometown of Monroeville, N.J.
At Home on the Road
Liberty’s season-opening loss at Charlotte on Nov. 8 snapped an 11-game road winning
streak for the Lady Flames. Liberty has been successful away from the Vines Center in
recent years, posting double-digit road victories during each of the last four seasons, including an 11-3 road mark in 2012-13.
Back in Time
Monday’s game is Liberty’s first road contest against a non-Division I foe since Jan. 6,
1994, when the Lady Flames recorded a 90-61 triumph at Cedarville of the NAIA. Just
like this season, the 1993-94 Liberty squad was off to a slow start, going 0-7 before the
win over Cedarville. Liberty then played well at the end of the year, going 11-4 in its last
15 regular-season tilts.
Uncommon Occurrences
• The Lady Flames have started out 0-4 for the first time under head coach Carey Green
and the first time since beginning the 1993-94 campaign at 0-7.
• Liberty has lost five consecutive games dating back to last season, marking the Lady
Flames’ longest losing streak since a five-game losing skein spanning Nov. 22 and Dec.
7, 2008.
• Liberty has dropped back-to-back home games (James Madison on Nov. 12 and Virginia
on Nov. 19) for the first time since falling to VCU and No. 13/14 Auburn on Nov. 14 and
Dec. 7, 2008.
• Liberty was outrebounded by a 42-37 count during its 67-56 loss against James Madison
on Nov. 12. It was just the 10th time that the Lady Flames have lost the rebounding battle
since the start of the 2009-10 season. Liberty is 2-8 in those games.
Bombs Away!
• Liberty set a program single-season record by making 173 three-pointers during the
2012-13 season, averaging 5.1 made triples per game.
• The Lady Flames are off to a fast start from behind the arc in 2013-14, averaging 5.0
three-pointers per contest.
• Freshman Mickayla Sanders is leading the way, shooting 8-of-22 (36.4 percent) from
behind the arc during the first four games of her collegiate career. Sanders is the first Lady
Flame since Devon Brown during her freshman season of 2009-10 to make eight or more
triples in the season’s first four games.

• The Hawks also shot well from the field (45.5 percent), three-point range (37.5 percent)
and the foul line (80.8 percent) during their first-ever meeting with the Lady Flames.
• Liberty fell to 0-4 for the first time since 1993-94 despite a 52-24 rebounding advantage,
28 offensive rebounds which led to 26 second-chance points, an 82.1 percent mark from
the free throw line and a number of impressive individual efforts.
• Katelyn Adams established career highs for points (16), free throws made (12), free
throws attempted (16) and minutes played (27), while setting a season high with nine
rebounds. She was just two shy from the program record for most free throws attempted
in a single game.
• Fellow redshirt sophomore post player Ashley Rininger recorded a double-double in the
first half alone, with 11 points and 12 rebounds. She finished with 15 points and a careerhigh 14 rebounds for her third straight double-double and the sixth of her career.
• Emily Frazier scored in double digits for the first time this season with 10 points and
added a team-high three steals.
• Tesh Hanson contributed eight points, after tallying just two total points during the first
three games of her college career.

• Saint Joseph’s held Liberty without a field goal for an 8:34 stretch of the second half,
Saturday at Hagan Arena. The Hawks outcored the Lady Flames by a 25-7 count during
that span, turning a close game into a 77-65 win.

• Liberty’s five sophomores (Katelyn Adams, Sadalia Ellis, Jaymee Fisher-Davis, Catherine Kearney and Ashley Rininger) are playing a key role for the Lady Flames during the
early stages of the 2013-14 season.
• The sophomores are scoring 65 percent of Liberty’s points thus far, averaging 38.5
points per game.
• The duo of Ashley Rininger and Sadalia Ellis is leading the way, as both players have improved significantly upon their numbers from 2012-13. Rininger is averaging a team-high
14.5 ppg this season, after scoring 6.9 ppg a year ago. Meanwhile, Ellis is posting 10.0
ppg, after averaging 3.4 ppg with a season-high of 10 points as a freshman.
Fresh Faces
• Six newcomers dot the 2013-14 Liberty roster, including freshmen Moriah Begin, Simone
Brown, Tesh Hanson, Audrey Rettstatt, Mickayla Sanders and Emily Stotmeister. This is
Liberty’s largest group of newcomers since the 2005-06 Lady Flames also boasted six
freshmen (Alexandria Bream, Megan Frazee, Molly Frazee, Moriah Frazee, Rachel Hammond and Rebecca Lightfoot).

Great Expectations
For the sixth straight season and the 16th time in the last 17 years, Liberty was voted to
win the Big South Conference title by the league’s head coaches and a panel of media
members.
Additionally, redshirt junior point guard Emily Frazier was named to the preseason allconference team. She led the Big South in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.81) and ranked second in assists (4.7 apg) in 2012-13, before suffering a season-ending injury on Feb. 16.
