Today’s Game
Liberty (0-2) will host a Commonwealth opponent for the second straight week, when the
Lady Flames welcome Virginia (2-1) to the Vines Center, Tuesday at 7 p.m. It will be just
the Cavaliers’ second visit to the Vines Center and the first in 11 years.
The “Starting Five” - Today’s Top Storylines
1) Virginia’s only previous contest at the Vines Center came on Nov. 26, 2002, and it was
a memorable game. Liberty’s Kristal Tharp tied the score with a three-pointer at the end
of regulation, and the Lady Flames went on to record a 77-69 victory in overtime. It was
Liberty’s first-ever win over a Top 25 opponent, as Virginia entered the game ranked No.
23 nationally.
2) Both Liberty and Virginia have faced James Madison already this season, and the
Dukes were victorious against each team. JMU defeated Virginia by a 63-46 count on
Nov. 8, four days before recording a 67-56 win at Liberty.
3) The Lady Flames will attempt to defeat an ACC opponent for the first time since notching a 45-43 triumph at Virginia Tech on Dec. 30, 2008.

Notes and Anecdotes
• Tuesday’s game will mark the first meeting between Liberty and Virginia since the Cavaliers posted a 64-38 home win over the Lady Flames on Dec. 7, 2011. Liberty’s Devon
Brown scored her 1,000th career point during the game. The only active players who appeared in that contest are Liberty’s Jasmine Gardner, Catherine Kearney, Reagan Miller
and Ellee Rollins and Virginia’s Ataira Franklin, Lexie Gerson and Kelsey Wolfe.
• Virginia’s only previous visit to the Vines Center came on Nov. 26, 2002. That day, Kristal
Tharp played a key role in Liberty’s first-ever win over a Top 25 opponent, scoring a teamhigh 20 points and tying the game with a three-pointer at the end of regulation. The Lady
Flames went on to post a 77-69 overtime victory over No. 23 Virginia.
• Both the Lady Flames and Cavaliers have suffered defeats at the hands of James Madison this season. Virginia dropped its season opener at JMU by a 63-46 count on Nov. 8.
Four days later, the Dukes recorded a 67-56 victory at Liberty.
• Liberty is seeking its first win over an ACC opponent since Dec. 30, 2008. That day, the
Lady Flames notched a 45-43 victory at Virginia Tech in the championship game of the
Hokie Hardwood Classic.
• On Feb. 16, Liberty guard Emily Frazier suffered a season-ending knee injury against
Radford, one day before Virginia guard Kelsey Wolfe saw the same thing happen versus
Maryland. Both Frazier and Wolfe recovered in time to start the 2013-14 season openers.

A Look Back at Liberty’s 67-56 Home Loss to James Madison
• Liberty fell to 0-2 for just the third time in Carey Green’s 15 seasons as head coach with
a 67-56 home-opening setback to James Madison on Nov. 12.
1 time
• Ashley Rininger paced Liberty in points (career-high 20) and rebounds (10) for her first
double-double of the season and the fourth of her career. She scored 14 points during the
second half, including the Lady Flames’ first 10 markers after halftime.
• Sadalia Ellis posted a career high in points for the second straight game, finishing with
15 points to go along with a game-high four assists. The sophomore had only hit seven
career three-pointers before making four against JMU.
• Freshman Mickayla Sanders started for the first time in her young career and scored six
points on a pair of three-pointers.
• Catherine Kearney came off of the bench and tied her career high with 31 minutes
played for the second straight game. She made all six of her free throw attempts as part
of an eight-point evening.
Stellar Sophomores
• Liberty’s five sophomores (Katelyn Adams, Sadalia Ellis, Jaymee Fisher-Davis, Catherine Kearney and Ashley Rininger) are playing a key role for the Lady Flames during the
early stages of the 2013-14 season.
• The sophomores are scoring 72.3 percent of Liberty’s points thus far, averaging 40.5
points per game.
• The duo of Ashley Rininger and Sadalia Ellis is leading the way, as both players have improved significantly upon their numbers from 2012-13. Rininger is averaging a team-high
16.5 ppg this season, after scoring 6.9 ppg a year ago. Meanwhile, Ellis is posting 14.0
ppg, after averaging 3.4 ppg with a season-high of 10 points as a freshman.
Fresh Faces
• Six newcomers dot the 2013-14 Liberty roster, including freshmen Moriah Begin, Simone
Brown, Tesh Hanson, Audrey Rettstatt, Mickayla Sanders and Emily Stotmeister. This is
Liberty’s largest group of newcomers since the 2005-06 Lady Flames also boasted six
freshmen (Alexandria Bream, Megan Frazee, Molly Frazee, Moriah Frazee, Rachel Hammond and Rebecca Lightfoot).
• That season, Megan and Moriah Frazee both started right away and were the two leading scorers for Liberty, which went 25-6 and captured the Big South regular-season and
tournament titles.
