Liberty LADY FLAMES
(2-4, 0-0 Big South)
Lynchburg, Va. - Vines Center - 7 p.m.
The Game
Liberty (2-4, 0-0 Big South) will return home from its Texas trip to host high-scoring
Glenville State (3-3, 0-1 WVIAC), Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Vines Center. The Pioneers’
third visit to Lynchburg in the past four seasons will present a contrast in styles. Glenville
State is scoring 89.0 ppg so far this season, while Liberty is allowing only 53.7 ppg. Liberty
will look to improve to 3-0 at home in 2010-11 and 3-0 all-time versus Glenville State. The
contest is the Lady Flames’ final home game until Jan. 17.
Last Time Out
The Lady Flames wrapped up their Texas swing on Friday by playing their second
consecutive Top 10 opponent, No. 2/3 Baylor. Sophomore sensation Brittney Griner led
the Bears to an 81-42 win, scoring a career-high 35 points to go along with nine rebounds
and seven blocked shots. Liberty was led by freshman Emily Frazier, who scored a teamhigh eight points in her home state.
A Look Ahead
Liberty begins a string of nine consecutive games away from Lynchburg Sunday at
2 p.m., when the Lady Flames travel across the Commonwealth to face James Madison.
This will mark the fifth straight season Liberty and James Madison have squared off on
the hardwood, with the Dukes owning a 5-1 lead in the all-time head-to-head series. The
game will match up the preseason favorites in the Big South and CAA.
Lady Flames On The Air
All Lady Flames basketball games may be heard LIVE on WWMC 90.9 FM “The
Light.” Jamie Hall, in his 17th year of broadcasting Lady Flames basketball, will handle the
courtside play-by-play duties for all games.

Liberty head women’s basketball coach Carey Green, beginning his 12th season with
the Lady Flames, has instilled quite a winning tradition during his tenure at the institution.
His teams have averaged 24 victories per year, while becoming a regular fixture in the
NCAA Tournament.
Green has accumulated a 266-87 record on the Liberty bench, good for a winning
percentage of .754. He ranked 10th all-time among NCAA Division I women’s basketball
coaches in winning percentage to begin the year, ahead of renowned coaching names like
Rutgers’ Vivian Stringer, LSU’s Van Chancellor and North Carolina’s Sylvia Hatchell.
More importantly, Liberty has won the Big South Tournament title and advanced to the
NCAA Tournament 10 times with Green as head coach. Liberty has totaled 23 or more
victories during nine of those years, including the 2004-05 season, which saw the Lady
Flames reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
Green has actually been to the postseason on 22 occasions as a women’s basketball
coach, a span which includes a dozen years as an assistant coach at Clemson. In all but
one of the 22 appearances, he has experienced the NCAA Tournament.
In 2009-10, Liberty made another trip to the “Big Dance,” despite fielding a young
team which featured only one senior. The Lady Flames finished the year with a 27-6 record and hoisted the Big South Tournament championship trophy for the 13th time in the
last 14 seasons.
Rebounding and defense have always been staples of Green-coached teams, and
the 2009-10 Lady Flames were certainly no exception. Liberty outrebounded opponents
by an average of 13.9 caroms per game, leading the nation in the category. The Lady
Flames have now been listed among the nation’s top five teams in rebounding margin
for seven straight years. Liberty previously led the nation in the category in 2003-04 and
2004-05.
The Lady Flames also ended the season ranked in the top 10 nationally for scoring
defense (second, school-record 50.0 ppg), field goal percentage (second, .482) and scoring margin (seventh, +17.2).
A key late-season conference victory over High Point in 2006 made Green the winningest coach in Big South Conference history. He is also Liberty’s career wins leader.
The 2004-05 year was a special one on Liberty Mountain, for many reasons. A seniorladen Lady Flames team recorded upset wins over No. 4 seed Penn State (78-70) and No.
5 seed DePaul (88-79) in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, becoming just the
second team ever to advance to the Sweet 16 as a No. 13 seed. The Lady Flames ended
the season with their highest national ranking to date, 21st (USA Today/ESPN).
Green’s track record shows he has the ability to meet those challenges. The Lady
Flames have recorded two wins over UNLV, Virginia and West Virginia and solo victories
over No. 19 DePaul, No. 17 Kansas State, No. 25 Penn State, Virginia Tech and Wake
Forest during Green’s tenure. The upset victory over No. 25 Virginia in 2003 marked Liberty’s first win over a Top 25 team.
His record against conference foes is equally impressive. He led the Lady Flames on
a Big South record 47-game winning streak and currently owns a .914 (171-16) winning
percentage against conference teams. Green has marched through conference play with
one or fewer setbacks seven times, while guiding the Lady Flames to two undefeated
conference seasons.

Scouting Glenville State
Glenville State, an NCAA Division II team from West Virginia, led the nation in both
points (95.9 ppg) and three-pointers made (14.1/game) last season. The Pioneers are
employing the same fast-paced style once again in 2010-11, scoring 98 or more points
in three of their first six games and racking up 70 made triples already. Glenville State is
active at the defensive end as well, averaging 16.7 steals per contest and forcing 30.7
turnovers per outing.
Tenisha Wilson, a 5-9 junior guard, leads Glenville State’s three double-digit scorers
with 16.5 ppg, while 5-7 senior guard Autumn Davis (13.0 ppg) and 5-5 junior guard Danielle Woodmore (12.5 ppg) are also scoring in double figures.
The Pioneers and Liberty have faced one common opponent this season, Virginia
Union. Glenville State opened the year with a 102-70 neutral-site win over the Panthers on
Nov. 12. Four days later, Virginia Union fell by a 71-19 count at Liberty, in the Lady Flames’
home opener.
The Coaching Matchup
Liberty Head Coach Carey Green is in his 12th season with the Lady Flames, and has
led his team to 10 Big South titles. A five-time Big South Coach of the Year, Green owns
a 266-87 career record and is the all-time wins leader at Liberty and among Big South
women’s basketball coaches. His career winning percentage (.754) ranked 10th all-time
among NCAA Division I women’s basketball coaches at the season’s outset. Green is 2-0
all-time versus Glenville State.
Bunky Harkleroad is 21-13 in his second season as Glenville State’s head coach, after spending nine years coaching his alma mater, Berea. Harkleroad, who was a four-time
Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) Coach of the Year while at Berea,
owns a 189-106 career mark in 11 seasons as a collegiate head coach. He is 0-1 coaching
against the Lady Flames.
Liberty-Glenville State Series Notes
Liberty is 2-0 all-time versus Glenville State, with both victories coming at home. The
Lady Flames defeated the Pioneers by a 66-54 margin on Dec. 15, 2007 and posted an
86-45 victory on Dec. 5, 2009.
Last season, the 45 points Glenville State managed against Liberty were a season
low for NCAA Division II’s highest-scoring squad. Freshmen led the Lady Flames to victory, including a 20-point, nine-rebound effort by Devon Brown and Jelena Antic’s first career double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds). Autumn Davis paced the Pioneers in points
(12), rebounds (4) and assists (3).
Liberty Versus the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC)
The Lady Flames own an 11-13 all-time record versus the current members of the
WVIAC. However, Tuesday’s game will be only Liberty’s third matchup against a WVIAC
opponent since the Lady Flames joined the NCAA Division I ranks in 1988-89. Liberty is
2-0 against the WVIAC as a Division I team, with both wins coming against Glenville State.
Liberty is 1-1 versus Alderson-Broaddus, 4-2 versus Bluefield State, 0-1 versus Concord, 3-1 versus Davis & Elkins, 2-0 versus Glenville State and 1-8 versus Pitt-Johnstown.

Triple Digits Uncommon
Scoring 100 points has become commonplace for Glenville State under head coach
Bunky Harkleroad. The Pioneers have reached the century mark in 14 of his first 34
games as head coach.
By contrast, Liberty has only three 100-point games in 23 seasons as a Division I
team, with its most recent triple-digit outing coming Nov. 30, 2007 versus Virginia Union.
Home Sweet Home
The Lady Flames will attempt to snap their current two-game losing streak with a return to the Vines Center. Both of Liberty’s victories this season have come at home, and
the Lady Flames own a six-game home winning streak dating back to last season. Liberty
has won those six contests by an average of 22.3 ppg.
Home Sweet Home, Part 2
Perhaps no current Liberty player enjoys home games at the Vines Center more than
sophomore guard/forward Jelena Antic. She is averaging 10.8 ppg during 13 career home
games, as opposed to 7.1 ppg in 16 contests away from Lynchburg.
Turning Up the Heat in the Furnace
The 2010-11 campaign is the 19th season the Liberty women’s basketball team has
called the Vines Center its full-time home. The “Furnace” has served as a favorable venue
for the Lady Flames over the years. Liberty is 203-53 (.793) all-time at the Vines Center,
including 13-2 last season and 2-0 to start the 2010-11 home slate.
The Lady Flames are 111-11 (.910) in their last 122 home games, dating back to the
2001-02 season. This year, Liberty will play 11 contests inside the Vines Center.
Pack Your Bags
Tuesday’s game will be Liberty’s last home game until Jan. 17, when the Lady Flames
return to the Vines Center for a Big South Conference matchup against Radford. Before
then, the Lady Flames will play nine consecutive games away from home, marking the
squad’s longest road swing since a 10-game trip during the 1991-92 season.
The lengthy road trip will include games in four different states (Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia). During the string of road contests, the Lady Flames will
travel over 2,000 miles.
Slow Starts, Fast Finishes
This is the fourth time in Carey Green’s 12 seasons as head coach that the Lady
Flames have started 2-4 or worse in their first six games of the season. The first three
times it happened, Liberty went on to win the Big South Conference title.
In 2000-01, the Lady Flames were 2-4 at this juncture, part of a 2-9 start to the season. Liberty finished the year 18-12.
The 2003-04 Lady Flames were also 2-4 at this point in the season. Later in the year,
Liberty reeled off a 19-game winning streak, pushing its final record to 25-7.
The 2008-09 campaign saw Liberty start 1-5 through six games. The Lady Flames
were 3-7, before winning 21 of their next 22 games and wrapping up the year at 24-9.
Dominating Defense
Liberty tied the Vines Center record and nearly set a program record for fewest points
allowed during its Nov. 16 home opener against Virginia Union. The Panthers managed
only 19 points, on 14.3 percent field goal shooting. Valley Forge also tallied 19 points
against Liberty in a 104-19 setback on Jan. 14, 1995. The Lady Flames’ school record of
18 points allowed was set last season, at Winthrop on Feb. 15, 2010.
Nifty in November
Liberty is 65-41 all-time during the month of November, and the Lady Flames have
gone 30-23 during the calendar year’s 11th month with Carey Green as head coach. Last
season, the Lady Flames went 5-0 in November.
This year, Liberty is 2-4 to start the month, with only Tuesday’s contest remaining until
the calendar flips to December.

Missing No. 40
Big South Preseason Player of the Year Devon Brown has yet to take the court for the
Lady Flames in 2010-11, due to injury. In her absence, Liberty is 2-4 and is scoring just
51.2 ppg.
Two seasons ago, another Big South Preseason Player of the Year wearing uniform
No. 40 missed an extended period of time early in Liberty’s season due to injury. Megan
Frazee sat out eight games during the 2008-09 campaign with an ankle injury. Liberty
went 2-6 with Frazee sidelined, scoring only 58.4 ppg.
With Frazee in the lineup that year, Liberty posted a 22-3 record and boosted its
scorign average to 64.0 ppg.
Top-Flight Opposition
No. 8/8 Texas A&M and No. 2/3 Baylor marked the first back-to-back Top 10 opponents Liberty has faced in program history.
Fantastic First for Frazier
It took only four games for Liberty freshman Emily Frazier to earn her first start at the
point guard position, and she flourished in her new role on Nov. 20 against Lafayette. Frazier tallied a season-high 11 points and paced the team with three assists. She also drilled
five of six free throws during the game’s final 71 seconds to help seal the victory.
Welcome Back
Only one player, senior point guard Amber Mays, graduated from the 2009-10 Liberty
team. As a result, the Lady Flames return 87.5 percent of their scoring and 95.7 percent
of their rebounding from a year ago.
Welcome Back, Part 2
Both redshirt sophomore guard/forward Brittany Campbell and redshirt junior forward/
center Kittery Maine missed the entire 2009-10 campaign due to knee injuries.
Campbell had not appeared in a game since Dec. 2, 2008 at James Madison, before
checking in during the second half of the Nov. 12 game against Creighton.
Meanwhile, Maine’s most recent contest was March 22, 2009, Liberty’s NCAA Tournament game versus Louisville, before she played against Virginia Union on Nov. 16.
Liberty Versus Non-Conference Opposition
After its 2-4 start to the 2010-11 campaign, Liberty’s all-time non-conference record is
now 278-301.
Liberty’s best-ever season against non-conference foes came in 1997-98, when the
Lady Flames went 14-1 outside the Big South. Liberty’s lone non-conference setback that
season came to eventual national champion Tennessee in the NCAA Tournament.
Lady Flames to Face Wide Variety of Non-Conference Foes
Liberty is scheduled to match up with opponents from eight different conferences this
season, including Big 12 (Baylor & Texas A&M), BIG EAST (St. John’s), CAA (James Madison & VCU), CIAA (Virginia Union), MEAC (North Carolina Central), MVC (Creighton),
Patriot (Lafayette), Southern Conference (College of Charleston) and WVIAC (Glenville
State) foes.
Depending on how the Terrapin Classic plays out, the Lady Flames could also face
teams from the ACC (Maryland) or the Atlantic-10 (La Salle).
Piling Up the Postseason Qualifiers
Liberty could play as many as 12 games against teams which qualified for postseason tournaments in 2009-10. The Lady Flames’ potential opponents this year include four
NCAA Tournament qualifiers (Baylor, James Madison, St. John’s and Texas A&M), four
WNIT qualifiers (Creighton, Gardner-Webb, Maryland and VCU) and two WBI qualifiers
(Charleston Southern and College of Charleston).
The Lady Flames will host Charleston Southern on Jan. 24 and Gardner-Webb on
Feb. 12. Other than those two contests, the rest of Liberty’s matchups with 2009-10 postseason teams will be played away from the Vines Center.

Longest-Tenured Assistant Coaches
The 2010-11 season is Heather Stephens’ eighth campaign as an assistant coach on
Carey Green’s coaching staff. She is the longest-tenured assistant coach in program history, and has helped Liberty achieve considerable success.
The Lady Flames have gone 176-55 during Stephens’ tenure, winning six Big South
titles and making the “Sweet 16” of the 2005 NCAA Tournament.

International Flavor
Sophomore Jelena Antic hails from Skopje, Macedonia and redshirt sophomore Tolu
Omotola was born in London, England, giving Liberty international players on its roster
for the 17th consecutive season. The last time the Lady Flames’ roster consisted solely of
American-born players was the 1993-94 campaign. Every Carey Green-coached team at
Liberty has featured at least one international player.

Lack of Overtime
Liberty has played only one overtime game in its last 218 outings, a 64-62 setback at
High Point on Jan. 20, 2007. Since that contest at the Millis Center, the Lady Flames have
played 115 consecutive games without needing extra time. No current Lady Flame has
played an overtime contest in college.
The Lady Flames’ most recent overtime victory came on Jan. 6, 2004, when Liberty
defeated American, 76-72, on the road in double overtime.
Liberty’s most recent overtime contest at the Vines Center was a memorable one. The
Lady Flames defeated Virginia, 77-69, in overtime on Nov. 26, 2002, to claim their firstever win over the Cavaliers. It also marked Liberty’s first win over a ranked opponent, as
Virginia entered the game with a No. 23 national ranking.

Windex Warley
Just six games into her junior season, Avery Warley is rapidly approaching Liberty’s
top 10 career rebounding list. With 579 career boards, Warley needs only five more caroms to pass Pam Stanfield for 10th place in program history.
Free Throw Woes
Liberty is shooting only 60.2 percent from the free throw line through six games.
That’s the lowest percentage by a Lady Flames team since 1994-95, when Liberty shot
59.8 percent for the year.
Antic At It Again
Jelena Antic posted some notable statistics versus Virginia Union, despite playing
only 21 minutes. Her career-high four three-pointers were the most by a Lady Flame since
Jan. 31, 2009, when Rachel Hammond drained five triples against High Point.
The sophomore also came up with a career-best five steals. It was the first time a
Liberty player recorded four three-pointers and four steals in the same game since Dec.
4, 2004, when Kristal Tharp accomplished the feat at Kansas State.
Wanted for Theft
Last season, Liberty ranked No. 14 nationally in steals per game (11.4 spg) and tied
the program record with 377 steals.
The Lady Flames have also been active on the defensive end during the first six
games of the 2010-11 campaign, averaging 10.7 steals per contest.
Rulers of the Rebounds
Liberty led the nation in rebound margin last season, pulling down an average of
13.9 more boards than its opponent in each contest. The Lady Flames outrebounded 32
of their 33 foes in 2009-10, while topping the nation in the category for the third time in
program history. National champion UConn ranked second at 12.7 and national runner-up
Stanford finished third at 11.8.
Liberty previously ranked as the nation’s top rebounding team in both 2003-04 and
2004-05. The Lady Flames have been listed among the NCAA’s top five squads for rebounding margin for eight consecutive seasons.
A Big Uniform to Fill
This will be the first season since Carey Green’s first year at the helm, 1999-2000, that
a Lady Flame has donned No. 24 on her uniform. Elena Kisseleva wore No. 24 during all
four years of her career, before graduating in 2000. She is Liberty’s all-time leading scorer
with 2,154 points and was part of the inaugural class inducted into Liberty’s Athletics Hall
of Fame in 2009.
Jasmine Gardner, a 6-2 freshman forward from Memphis, Tenn., will sport No. 24 this
season, as she begins her career with the Lady Flames.
A Big Pair of Shoes to Fill
Even though only one player is missing from last year’s team, the Lady Flames lost a
key component when point guard Amber Mays graduated. Mays started 64 times at point
guard during her two seasons with the Lady Flames, pacing the squad in both assists and
steals both years. She wrapped up her career in fine fashion, earning a spot on the 2010
Big South Championship all-tournament team.
The two players seeing the most playing time at the point guard slot in 2010-11 are
senior Dymond Morgan and freshman Emily Frazier. Morgan served as Mays’ backup a
year ago, appearing in all 33 contests. She ranked third on the team with 49 steals and
tied for third with 46 assists. Meanwhile, Frazier enrolled at Liberty for the spring 2010
semester, but is seeing her first collegiate game action this season.
Other options at point guard include senior Rachel McLeod and sophomore Jelena
Antic. McLeod opened her Liberty career as a point guard, before shifting to the “2” position during the 2008-09 season. At 6-2, Antic is very tall for a point guard, but did play the
position in high school at Liberty Christian Academy and displayed a deft passing ability
during her freshman year with the Lady Flames.

non-conference foes also appeared in the poll, with Creighton listed No. 20 and James
Madison checking in at No. 3.
Gonzaga, which advanced to the Sweet 16 of last year’s NCAA Tournament, was
ranked No. 1 to open the year, with Green Bay a close second.
Liberty is listed No. 21 this week, for the second consecutive poll.
I Know What You Did Last Summer
The Lady Flames had an eventful and enjoyable summer, highlighted by a trip to
Israel spanning late May and early June. During the trip, Liberty competed in the international Friendship Games tournament and won the championship in dominating fashion.
The Lady Flames went 5-0, winning their games by an average of 40.2 points per contest.
Liberty defeated the Israel Under-20 National Team by an 82-58 count in the title game.
Sophomore guard/forward Jelena Antic remained overseas while her teammates returned to the United States, and gained some additional international playing experience.
Playing for Macedonia, Antic earned MVP honors in the U20 European Championship for
Women Division B.
For the tournament, Antic led all players in scoring (25.0 ppg) and rebounding (12.3
rpg), while ranking No. 2 in free throw percentage (.860), No. 3 in steals (3.2 spg), No. 5
in assists (3.3 apg) and No. 6 in blocked shots (1.2 bpg).
Her top individual performance was a 25-point, 11-rebound, 7-assist outing versus
