SHIP BORNE
Holland America Line of Seattle, Washington, operated the M/S Amsterdam and the
M/S Ryndam on several cruises around South America. The M/S Amsterdam carried 545
passengers, 41 staff and 469 crew, and entered the Treaty Area January 30 – February 1,
2003. No landing were made. The M/S Ryndam carried 1,192 passengers and 561 crew,
entered the Treaty Area February 1-3, 2003. No landings were made.
Crystal Cruises of Los Angeles, California, operated the M/S Crystal Symphony on a
cruise around South America, during which it crossed into the Treaty Area
approximately 72 hours for scenic cruising during February 14-17, 2003. The vessels
carried 533 passengers, 14 staff, and 519 crew. No landings are were made.
LAND BASED
Adventure Network International (ANI) of Boca Raton, Florida operated out of Punta
Arenas, Chile, for the sixteenth consecutive season. ANI carried a total of 180 landbased tourists, which included support services for private expeditions, and ANIorganized and operated 11-17-day excursions to the interior of the Antarctic continent.
Travel from Punta Arenas, Chile, to Adventure Network's Patriot Hills base camp
(80°20'S, 81°20'W) was via Ilyushin-76 aircraft for cargo, fuel and passengers for a total
of 15 flights. One ski-equipped Twin Otter, one Cessna 185 with skis, and one single
Otter with skis were used for interior continental flights during November 2002 - midFebruary 2003. Adventure Network International conducted the following activities:
