Robb Kahl is the State Representative for the newly created 47th Assembly District. The district includes all of McFarland and Monona, part of the cities of Fitchburg and Madison, and all or part of the towns of Cottage Grove, Blooming Grove, Dunn and Madison. Rep. Kahl obtained his undergraduate degree at Ripon College, where he graduated cum laude in 1994. He continued his education at the UW Law School and graduated cum laude in 1997. While at Ripon, he met his wife Jennifer and the two married in 1996. In 1998 he and his wife moved to her hometown of Monona, where they still live today with their four children. Their two oldest children attend public school in the Monona Grove School District, where their two youngest will join them in a few years. The Kahls are actively involved in serving on various community and school boards, coaching youth sports teams and spearheading community fundraising efforts. Rep. Kahl served the City of Monona for ten years, two as an alderman and eight as the Mayor of Monona. During his four terms as Mayor, Rep. Kahl led the effort to rebuild the city’s aging infrastructure, expand and improve public services, double the size of Monona’s rainy day account, establish community sustainability efforts, increase economic development, and improve the community’s bond rating. The recent reconstruction of Monona Drive was an enormous project led by Rep. Kahl that required cooperation among Monona, Madison, Dane County, the State of Wisconsin, and the federal government. As Mayor, Rep. Kahl’s budgets continually held the line on taxes, but found the needed balance between providing essential services residents expect while ensuring the taxes charged for those services were fair and reasonable. Along with his public sector work, Rep. Kahl has also pursued an active private sector career. He is a small business owner, with five employees working with him at Generations Title in Monona, a company he started with only one employee in 2006. He is also the Executive Director and General Counsel for a non-profit labor and management organization. The organization serves as a watchdog and educational entity that protects workers and taxpayers rights by monitoring public construction projects for compliance with the various applicable state and federal laws. He also serves on various other business, government, and higher education boards. Rep. Kahl will serve on five committees during the 2013-2014 legislative session. The committees are: ● Aging and Long-Term Care ● Energy and Utilities ● Insurance ● State Affairs and Government Operations ● Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules ● Children and Families
