• BGP Prefix Independent Convergence—This provides the ability to converge BGP routes within
sub seconds instead of multiple seconds. The Forwarding Information Base (FIB) is updated, independent
of a prefix, to converge multiple 100K BGP routes with the occurrence of a single failure. This
convergence is applicable to both core and edge failures and with or without MPLS. This fast
convergence innovation is unique to Cisco IOS XR Software.
• Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)—This supports MPLS protocols, including Traffic Engineering
(TE) [including TE-FRR and TE Preferred Path], Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP), Label
Distribution Protocol (LDP), Targeted LDP (T-LDP), Differentiated Services (DiffServ)-aware traffic
engineering, and Layer 3 Virtual Private Network (L3VPN).
• Multicast—This provides comprehensive IP Multicast software including Source Specific Multicast
(SSM) and Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) in Sparse Mode only. The Cisco ASR 9000 Series
Aggregation Services Router also supports Auto-Rendezvous Point (AutoRP), Multiprotocol BGP
(MBGP), Multicast Source Discovery Protocol (MSDP), Internet Group Management Protocol Versions
2 and 3 (IGMPv2 and v3), IGMPv2 and v3 snooping, Multicast Listener Discovery (MLD) versions
1 and 2, and MLD snooping versions 1 and 2.
• Quality of Service (QOS)—This supports QoS mechanisms including policing, marking, queuing,
random and hard traffic dropping, and shaping. Additionally, Cisco IOS XR supports modular QoS
command-line interface (MQC). MQC is used to configure various QoS features on various Cisco
platforms, including the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router. Supports the following:
◦Class-Based Weighted Fair Queuing (CBWFQ)
◦Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED)
◦Priority Queuing with propagation
◦2-rate 3-color (2R3C) Policing
◦Modular QoS CLI (MQC)
◦4-level Hierarchical-QoS
◦Shared Policy Instances
• Manageability—This provides industry-standard management interfaces including modular
command-line interface (CLI), Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), and native Extensible
Markup Language (XML) interfaces. Includes a comprehensive set of Syslog messages.
• Security—This provides comprehensive network security features including Layer 2 and Layer 3
access control lists (ACLs); routing authentications; Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting
(AAA)/Terminal Access Controller Access Control System (TACACS+), Secure Shell (SSH),
Management Plane Protection (MPP) for management plane security, and Simple Network Management
Protocol version3 (SNMPv3). Control plane protections integrated into line card Application-Specific
Integrated Circuits (ASICs) include Generalized TTL Security Mechanism (GTSM), RFC 3682, and
Dynamic Control Plane Protection (DCPP).
• Availability—This supports rich availability features such as fault containment, fault tolerance, fast
switchover, link aggregation, nonstop routing for ISIS, LDP, OSPF, and nonstop forwarding (NSF).
• Enhanced core competencies:
◦IP fast convergence with Fast Reroute (FRR) support for Intermediate System-to-Intermediate
System (IS-IS)
◦IP fast convergence with Fast Reroute (FRR) support for Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)

Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregration Services Router Right-To-Use (RTU) Licensing
A9K-iVRF-LIC in violation of the Software Right To Use Agreement. This feature may be
disabled by the system without the appropriate license. Contact Cisco to purchase the
license immediately to avoid potential service interruption.
For Cisco license support, please contact your Cisco Sales Representative or Customer Service at 800553-NETS (6387) or 408-526-4000. For questions on the program other than ordering, please send e-mail to:
[email protected].
Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregration Services Router Right-To-Use (RTU) Licensing
Here are on-line locations of the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Right-To-Use (RTU)
licensing documents:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/asr9000/hardware/Prodlicense/A9k-AIP-LIC-B.html
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/asr9000/hardware/Prodlicense/A9k-AIP-LIC-E.html
Note
Layer 3 VPNs are only to be used after you have purchased a license. Cisco will enforce the RTU of
L3VPNs in follow on releases. You should contact Cisco, or check the release notes for the follow on
release before upgrading for directions on how to install the license as part of the upgrade - otherwise the
L3VPN feature may be affected.
The activation of VRF capability still requires the use of the appropriate per line card license (A9K-IVRF-LIC
/ A9K-AIP-LIC-B / A9K-AIP-LIC-E). Please contact your sales representative for more details.
Firmware Support
To check the firmware code running on the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Router, run the show fpd package
command in admin mode.
If upgrading from Release 3.7.3 or earlier releases, you may be expected to do a one-time FPD upgrade for
any firmware images that may have changed since the last release. Refer to the documents at http://
www.cisco.com/web/Cisco_IOS_XR_Software/index.html for upgrade instructions.

Geo Redundancy for PPPoE Sessions
BNG supports geo redundancy for PPPoE-PPP Termination and Aggregation (PPPoE-PTA) and PPPoE-L2TP
Access Concentrator (PPPoE-LAC) sessions.
For more information about geo redundancy for PPPoE sessions, see the Establishing Subscriber Sessions
chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Broadband Network Gateway Configuration
Guide. For complete command reference, see the PPPoE LAC-Specific Commands, PPPoE Commands and
Subscriber Commands chapters in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Broadband
Network Gateway Command Reference.
Segment Routing and LDP Interoperability
OSPFv2 provides mechanisms through which segment routing (SR) interoperate with label distribution protocol
(LDP). The control plane of segment routing co-exists with LDP.
Segment Routing Mapping Server (SRMS) functionality in SR is used to advertise SIDs for destinations in
LDP part of the network that do not support SR. SRMS maintains and advertises segment identifier (SID)
mapping entries for such destinations. OSPFv2 propagates the SRMS mapping entries and interacts with
SRMS to determine the SID value when programming the forwarding plane. OSPF installs prefixes and

corresponding labels into routing information base (RIB) that are used to program the forwarding information
base (FIB).
For more information see the chapter Implementing OSPF in Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services

OSPF FIB Download Notification
OSPF FIB Download Notification feature minimizes the ingress traffic drop for a prolonged period of time
after the line card reloads.
For more information on OSPF FIB Download Notification, see Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services
Router Routing Configuration Guide, section OSPF FIB Download Notification.
BGP DMZ Aggregate Bandwidth
BGP supports aggregating dmz-link bandwidth values of external BGP (eBGP) multipaths when advertising
the route to interior BGP (iBGP) peer.
For more information see the chapter Implementing BGP in Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services
Router Routing Configuration Guide, Release 5.3.x
BGP Graceful Maintenance
When a BGP link or router is taken down, other routers in the network find alternative paths for the traffic
that was flowing through the failed router or link, if such alternative paths exist. The time required before all
routers involved can reach a consensus about an alternate path is called convergence time. During convergence
time, traffic that is directed to the router or link that is down is dropped. The BGP Graceful Maintenance
feature allows the network to perform convergence before the router or link is taken out of service. The router
or link remains in service while the network reroutes traffic to alternative paths. Any traffic that is yet on its
way to the affected router or link is still delivered as before. After all traffic has been rerouted, the router or
link can safely be taken out of service.
OSPF strict-mode support for BFD dampening
Strict-mode is a OSPF BFD operation mode which keeps the neighbor state down until BFD session is UP.
For more information on OSPF strict-mode support for BFD dampening, see Cisco ASR 9000 Series
Aggregation Services Router Routing Configuration Guide, chapter Implementing OSPF.
RPL - Best Path Selection
Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) routers receive multiple paths to the same destination. As a standard, by
default the BGP best path algorithm decides the best path to install in the IP routing table. The route reflector
(RR) can know the best-path and multi-path when the prefix is received. This way the route reflector can use
different communities for best-path, multi-path. When RR gets the update from R1, R2, and R3, it performs
best path computation; if you combine them with add-path add-all-path RR could send all path to the controller
With this new feature, you can tag best path selected by RR using community-string (if is-best-path then
community 100:100) and then the controller checks which best path is sent to all R's. Border Gateway Protocol
(BGP) routers typically receive multiple paths to the same destination. While carrying out best path computation
you always will have one best path, sometimes equal and few non-equal paths and for that, you need is-best-path

and is-equal-best-path . The BGP best path algorithm decides the best path to install in the IP routing table
and to use for traffic forwarding.
For more information about this feature, see Implementing BGP chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series

Support for NLRI policy for BGP Flowspec
The flowspec can be filtered based on source and destination in flowspec NLRI using RPL, and can be applied
on attach point of neighbor.
For more information on BGP Flowspec, see the Implementing BGP Flowspec chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000
Series Aggregation Services Router Routing Configuration Guide. For more information on BGP Flowspec
commands, see the BGP Flowspec Commands chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services
Router Routing Command Reference.
Segment Routing for BGP
This feature is not supported in BGP. For more information about the Segment Routing for BGP, see Cisco
ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Routing Configuration Guide, chapter Implementing BGP .
802.3ah Loopback Support on Satellite nV System
The 802.3ah loopback feature allows you to loopback all the non OAMPDU packets from the remote node
that is defined as slave. The port that is defined as master controls the loopback status on the remote node.
You can conduct various performance and quality testing on the remote port that is in slave state using this
feature. This loopback mode is disruptive because the traffic does not flow through the router in slave state.
The Loopback function is supported on the satellite nV system ports both in over protected and unprotected
ICL modes. You can define the loopback function on the node that is in master state using the remote-loopback
command in the ethernet oam interface configuration mode.
You can use the ethernet oam loopback enable <interface> and ethernet oam loopback disable <interface>
commands from the master node to enable and disable the loopback respectively on the slave node.
Note
You cannot loopback the Layer 2 protocol packets such as CFM, OAM, and LACP.
This configuration snippet shows how to configure loopback.
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router(config)# interface gigabitEthernet 0/1/0/9
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router(config-if)# ethernet oam
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router(config-if-eoam)# remote-loopback
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router(config-if-eoam)# commit
This is a sample output of the show ethernet oam discovery command, which indicates that loopback is
supported.

Data Center Interconnect VXLAN Layer 3 Gateway
The ASR 9000 Series Router can serve as a Data Center Interconnect (DCI) L3 Gateway to provide IP
connectivity between VXLAN-enabled multi-tenant remote Data Center sites. For details, see the chapter
Implementing DCI VXLAN L3 Gateway in Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router MPLS

Multiple ICCP Groups for Satellite nV System Network Topologies
The Multiple ICCP group feature allows you to configure multiple redundancy groups on a single host. These
redundancy groups function completely independently of each other. The primary function of this feature is
to support multiple satellites that are dual-homed to different but overlapping pairs of Cisco ASR 9000 Series
Routers. Multiple redundancy groups are supported on all the advanced satellite network topologies, such as:
• Dual Home network topology
• Hub & Spoke topology
• Simple Ring topology
• Layer 2 Fabric topology
For more information, see the Configuring the Satellite Network Virtualization (nV) System chapter in the
Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router nV System Configuration Guide
Dynamic ICL
The Dynamic ICL feature allows you to configure ICL on the 1 GigE satellite ports 42 and 43 apart from the
designated four 10GigE ports on the Cisco ASR 9000v and Cisco ASR 9000v2 satellites. The Cisco ASR
9000v satellites can have, by default, up to 6 potential ICLs. These are the four 10 GigE ports(44-47) and two
1 GigE ports (42-43) and 42 fixed 1 GigE access ports (0-41). The two 1 GigE ports (42-43) that are considered
as potential ICLs are special ports that can be used either as ICLs or as access ports. When these two ports
(42-43) are configured as access ports, they are not considered as potential ICLs thereafter and therefore
behave like any other 1 GigE access ports till the next reload. When the satellite reloads and comes back up,
those two ports again become as potential ICLs. When the satellite gets discovered and connects back to the
host and if the host cross-link configuration still has the ports 42 and 43 as access ports, then these ports again
switch to the access port mode and exhibit the behavior like any other 1 GigE access ports. This feature is
supported on all the existing satellite topologies.
In case of dual head satellite network topology, if any of these ports (42-43) is configured as access port in
at least one of the host and if that host becomes active, then that port are not considered as potential ICLs
anymore till next satellite reload. Also, the two ports (42 and 43) when used as access ports, lose the link
integrity when the satellite reloads. The remote devices connected to these two ports stay up momentarily just

after the satellite reload and till the satellite gets connected to the host and receives the cross-link configuration
again.
You cannot bundle Dynamic ICL ports that are of dissimilar types. For example, you cannot bundle 1GigE
and 10GigE ports.
For more information, see the chapter Configuring the Satellite Network Virtualization (nV) System in the
Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router nV System Configuration Guide
Satellite nV System Access Port Bundles along with ICL Bundles
This feature provides redundancy for Inter-Chassis Links(ICLs) along with redundancy for satellite access
ports. These are different deployment models for this feature:
• Bundles of Satellite interfaces with ICL links as non-redundant links.
• Satellite interfaces with ICL links as redundant links (ICL links in a bundle).
• Bundles of Satellite interfaces with ICL links as redundant links (ICL links in a bundle).
These are the topologies and features supported when bundles of satellite interfaces exist with redundant ICL
bundles:
1 Bundles of Satellite interfaces with ICL redundant links to single host.
2 Bundles of Satellite interfaces with ICL redundant links to two hosts, which are connected by ICCP to
provide node redundancy.
3 Bundles of Satellite interfaces with many ICL redundant links to single host.
4 Sub-interfaces over Bundles of Satellite interfaces with ICL redundant links to single host.
5 Sub-interfaces over Bundles of Satellite interfaces with ICL redundant links to two hosts.
6 LACP over virtual Satellite access member interfaces.
7 BFD configuration of BLB.
8 L2VPN support for both VPWS and VPLS connectivity.
9 IPv4 and IPv6 protocols with and without L3VPNs.
10 Netflow, ACL, and routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, ISIS.
11 Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol(DHCP).
12 Host QoS and QoS offload are supported.
13 Layer 2 Multicast Offload with Hub and Spoke Topology is supported.
For more information see the Configuring the Satellite Network Virtualization (nV) System chapter in the
Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router nV System Configuration Guide, Release 5.3.x
Non Revertive Behavior for LACP Bundle Interface
The LACP bundle interface supports non-revertive behavior wherein a lower priority port continues as the
active port even after a higher priority port is capable of being operational. For more details, see the section
Non Revertive Behavior for LACP Bundle Interface in Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router
MPLS Layer 3 VPN Configuration Guide.

VCCV Ping for VPLS Pseudowire signalled using LDP FEC129 AII-type 1
For Virtual Circuit Connection Verification (VCCV), Cisco IOS XR software supports LSP ping for
point-to-point single-segment pseudowires. These pseudowires are signalled using LDP FEC129 AII-type 1
applicable to VPLS. For more details, see the LSP Ping over VPWS and VPLS section in Cisco ASR 9000
Series Aggregation Services Router MPLS Layer 3 VPN Configuration Guide.
BGP Over VXLAN Anycast Gateway
The VXLAN anycast gateway feature extends anycast functionality to VXLAN. It enables the use of anycast
routing on a network for underlay multicast load-balancing and redundancy.
These are the recommendations that users must consider before configuring VXLAN anycast gateway feature
in Release 5.3.2:
• BGP does not work with VXLAN anycast feature within a data center.
• IGP works on the underlay network within a data center.
• BGP and IGP should be used on the WAN side.
• Data center top-of-rack (TOR) switches to use static routes between router customer IP to the anycast
gateway.
For more information on how to configure VXLAN anycast gateway feature, see Cisco ASR 9000 Series
Aggregation Services Router L2VPN and Ethernet Services Configuration Guide, chapter Implementing
VXLAN.
Pseudowire Headend RFC 3107 Support
ASR 9000 routers support RFC 3107. Pseudowire Headend (PWHE) cross-connects to a pseudowire neighbour
that is reachable over recursive prefix. For related information, see the section Pseudowire Headend in Cisco
ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router MPLS Layer 3 VPN Configuration Guide.
Export to IPv6/VRFv6 Address Host
Destination-based NetFlow accounting (DBA) now supports an export to IPv6 collector in which the address
resides within a VRF. DBA is supported on ASR9000 Gigabit Ethernet and ASR9000 Enhanced Gigabit
Ethernet line cards.
For more information, see the Destination-based NetFlow Accounting section in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series
Aggregation Services Router IP Addresses and Services Configuration Guide.
Path MTU Discovery for IPv6
Path maximum transmission unit (MTU) discovery for IPv6 is now supported for applications using the Ping
protocol in addition to TCP.

Stateful PCE Enhancements
Fast Repair
The fast repair feature minimizes tunnel down time by allowing the path computation client (PCC-headend)
to determine a new optimal path for delegated tunnels that went down, or are under fast reroute (FRR) or
soft-preemption.
Optional Vendor Specific PCEP Extension
A optional vendor specific PCEP extension (cisco-tlv) is added in this IOS XR release. The vendor information
TLV (Type-Length-Variable) is used to carry vendor specific information that applies to a specific PCEP
object by including the TLV in the object.
Automatic Bandwidth Support for Delegated Tunnels
The automatic bandwidth feature support has been extended to delegated tunnels. Automatic bandwidth feature
allows a tunnel to automatically and dynamically adjust its reserved bandwidth over time, without network
operator intervention.
New Style Affinities
A new style of affinity reporting support is added in this IOS XR release. The new affinity mapping has PCEP
affinities on the left and XR affinities on the right.
Segment Routing Binding Label
The segment routing (SR) binding label feature enables an approach for reporting binding label or Segment-ID
(SID) to the Path Computation Element (PCE) for supporting PCE based traffic engineering (TE) policies.
For more information on Stateful PCE Enhancements, see Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router
MPLS Configuration Guide, chapter Implementing MPLS Traffic Engineering .
MPLS Top Label Hash
MPLS top label hash feature lets the label switching routers (LSRs) to be based on top label hashing for the
MPLS OAM packets. This feature is used to monitor all bundles along with members to ensure they are up
and running.
For more information on MPLS Top Label Hash feature, see Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services
Router MPLS Configuration Guide, chapter Implementing MPLS Static Labeling.
GRE IPv4 Transport Over MPLS

PBTS for IPv6
PBTS (Policy-Based Tunnel Selection) for IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) feature allows a user to manually
configure how received packets should be routed into specific TE tunnels for IPv6. PBTS allows the user to
identify packets using several attributes and to specify the TE tunnel to which a packet should be sent.
For more information on PBTS for IPv6 feature, see Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router
MPLS Configuration Guide, chapter Implementing MPLS Traffic Engineering .
Segment Routing Tunnels for Traffic Engineering
Segment Routing for Traffic Engineering uses the concept of source routing, where the source calculates the
path and encodes it in the packet header as a segment. Each segment is an end-to-end path from the source to
the destination, and instructs the routers in the Provider core to follow the specified path instead of the shortest
path calculated by the IGP. Segment routing thus uses a single intelligent source and relieves the remaining
routers from the task of calculating the shorest path through the network. Segment routing utilizes the network
bandwidth more effectively than traditional MPLS networks and has lower latency. Segment Routing is
implemented using static TE tunnels between the source and destination. Segment routing LSPs can be
configured manually (explicit or dynamic) on the source router or configured to be auto-generated by a Path
Computation Element (PCE) in the network.
For more information about the Segment Routing tunnels for Traffic Engineering feature, see Cisco ASR 9000
Series Aggregation Services Router Segment Routing Configuration Guide, chapter Configuring and Verifying
Segment Routing Tunnels for TE . For a complete command reference of this feature, see Cisco ASR 9000
Series Aggregation Services Router Segment Routing Command Reference, chapter Segment Routing
Commands.
Parameterized QoS for Line Card Subscribers
From Cisco IOS XR Release 5.3.2 and later, parameterized QoS (PQoS) as auto-service is supported for LC
subscribers, along with RP subscribers. For PQoS as auto-service, all the PQoS attributes are defined as VSAs
in the service profile, and activated as auto-service from the user profile. The regular mode of PQoS, where
the attributes are defined in user profile and activated by a service logon CoA request, is not supported for
LC subscribers. Whereas, RP subscribers support both modes of PQoS.
For more information about Parameterized QoS for Line Card Subscribers feature, see the Establishing
Subscriber Sessions chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Broadband Network
Gateway Configuration Guide.
TCP Establishment for DSCP Marking or Setting IP Precedence/DSCP for NTP
Differentiated Services Code Point (DSCP) is a field in an IP packet that enables different levels of service
to be assigned to network traffic. This is achieved by marking each packet on the network with a DSCP code
and appropriating to it the corresponding level of service. DSCP is the combination of IP Precedence and
Type of Service fields. As a customer you can configure, the DSCP level via ntp configuration. The level
configured by you will be set in ntp packets at IP layer. The higher the value of the IP Precedence field, the
higher the priority of the IP packet.

MLDP LFA FRR
Loop Free Alternative FRR
IP LFA FRR is a mechanism that enables a router to rapidly switch traffic to a pre-computed or a
pre-programmed loop free alternative (LFA) path (Data Plane Convergence) following either a adjacent link
and node failure or a adjacent link or node failure in both IP and LDP networks. The LFA path is used to
switch traffic till the router installs the new primary next-hops based upon the changed network topology
(Control Plane Convergence).
The goal of LFA FRR is to reduce loss of connectivity to 10s of milliseconds by using a pre-computed
alternative next-hop, in the event that the currently selected primary next-hop fails.
mLDP LFA FRR
The point-to-point TE tunnel FRR mechanism is supported on mLDP on ASR 9000 routers. FRR with LFA
backup is supported on mLDP. MLDP automatically sets up and chooses the backup path when there is a link
failure. With this implementation, you have to configure the TE tunnels for unicast traffic, so that mLDP can
act as an mLDP FRR.
LFA FRR support on mLDP is a per-prefix backup mechanism. As part of computing the LFA backup for a
remote IP, the LFA backup paths for the loopback address of the downstream intermediate nodes are also
computed. MLDP uses this small subset of information, by using the loopback address of the peer to compute
the LFA backup path.
Note
Both IPv4 and IPv6 traffic is supported on mLDP LFA FRR solution.
For information on MLDP LFA FRR feature, refer MLDP Loop-Free Alternative Fast Reroute section.
Consumption Model For Cisco ASR 9000 High Density 100GE Ethernet Line Cards
The new consumption model for Cisco ASR 9000 High Density 100GE Ethernet line cards provides the
following features on the pre-existing hardware:
• A new pricing model to align initial purchase to the customer's actual needs. For example, if two ports
are required for initial deployment the same can be purchased and then increased it to 8 ports over time.
The users must pay for at least two ports, and the rest required can be added through software licensing
over time.
• A new Cisco ASR 9000 High Density 100GE Ethernet line card (A9K-8X100GE-CM) is required to
use the new consumption model along with new Foundation software and Advanced software licenses.
For more information, refer Consumption Model section.
MAC Address Move and Unicast Traffic Counters
MAC address move and unicast traffic counters are introduced on the VPLS bridge ports on the ASR 9000
platform, which essentially are the L2VPN bridge port stats counter. MAC move and the unicast traffic
counters are introduced for better troubleshooting. Cisco ASR 9000 High Density 100GE Ethernet Line Card
and Cisco ASR 9000 Enhanced Ethernet Line Card support these counters.

Configuring Low-Latency Queueing with Strict Priority Queueing
Earlier when configuring the priority level of a queue in the QoS policy-map, only priority level 1, 2 and 3
were supported on the egress. After the enhancement, eight level priorities, (P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6, P7 and
PN) are supported in the QoS policy-map. If not specified, the default priority is the priority normal.
Below are the restrictions while configuring eight level priorities:
• The eight priority levels can be configured only on egress of main physical interface or main bundle
interface.
• Eight priority levels work on Cisco ASR 9000 High Density 100GE Ethernet line cards only.
• Unused priority can not be used for a different priority level.
• The policy-map with eight priority must be a flat policy with only class-default in the parent level. If
the policy map has a parent class-default, it can not have bandwidth configured.
For more information on eight level priorities, see Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router
Modular Quality of Service Configuration Guide, Release 5.3.x, chapter Configuring Low-Latency Queueing
with Strict Priority Queueing. For more information on eight level priorities commands, see the Cisco ASR

Release 5.3.2
Cisco ASR 9000 High Density 100GE Ethernet line card will support these additional features from Release
5.3.2:
• Wildcard Mask and Implicit Wildcard Mask—Address filtering uses wildcard masking to indicate
whether the software checks or ignores corresponding IP address bits when comparing the address bits
in an access-list entry to a packet being submitted to the access list. By carefully setting wildcard masks,
an administrator can select a single or several IP addresses for permit or deny tests. For more information
on this feature, refer Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router IP Addresses and Services
Configuration Guide.
• 64 ECMP paths for BGP prefixes. For more information on this feature, refer Cisco ASR 9000 Series

• Excessive Punt Flow Trap—The Excessive Punt Flow Trap feature attempts to identify and mitigate
control packet traffic from remote devices that send more than their allocated share of control packet
traffic. A remote device can be a subscriber device, a device on a VLAN interface, or a device identified
by its source MAC address. For more information on this feature, refer Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation
Services Router Broadband Network Gateway Configuration Guide.
Note
The subscriber interfaces are not supported.
• Ethernet Data Plane Loopback—The Ethernet Data Plane Loopback feature allows you to test services
and throughput of an Ethernet port or a device using a test generator. For more information on this
feature, refer Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Interface and Hardware Component
Configuration Guide.

2 fabric network topology. For more information on this feature, refer Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation
Services Router nV System Configuration Guide.
• Unidirectional Link Routing (UDLR)—Unidirectional Link Routing (UDLR) feature allows a port to
unidirectionally transmit or receive traffic. Therefore, instead of using two strands of fiber for a full-duplex
Gigabit Ethernet or 10Gigabit Ethernet port, UDLR uses only one strand of fiber that either transmits
or receives the one-way traffic depending on the configuration. For more information on this feature,
refer Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Interface and Hardware Component
Configuration Guide.
• Signal degradation and Signal failure Bert Error Rate correction. For more information on this feature,
refer Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Interface and Hardware Component
Configuration Guide.
• Match and Re-direct MPLS/non-MPLS packet sub-interface—The policy based routing (PBR)
match/redirect MPLS packets on subscriber interfaces feature enables the capability to match MPLS
labeled packets and redirect those to an external server by re-writing the source and destination IP
addresses of the packets. This feature is applicable when the DNS server (an external server) is hidden
in the MPLS cloud. For more information on this feature, Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services
Router MPLS Configuration Guide.
• QPPB on GRE—QoS Policy Propagation using Border Gateway Protocol (QPPB) helps to classify
packets by QoS Group ID, based on Access control lists (ACLs), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
community lists, BGP autonomous system (AS) paths, Source Prefix address, or Destination Prefix
address. For more information on this feature, Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router

Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.3.2
Caveats
• Starting with Cisco IOS XR Software Release 3.9 the pw-class <class-name> encapsulation mpls
command control-word option default is now disable -In Cisco IOS XR Software Release 3.9 and
above the control word is disabled by default. To configure the control word, enter the control-word
keyword shown in the following example:
pw-class class1 encapsulation mpls control-word
• For configured policer rates of less than 1 Mbps, the actual policer rate can be approximately 10 percent
less than the configured rate. For example, for a configured policer rate of 500 kbps, the actual policer
rate is 448 kbps due to a granularity round down in hardware.
• In Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Software Release 4.0.0, the minimum configurable
logging buffered size has been increased to 307200. Any configuration with a value less than 307200
fails to upgrade to Release 4.0.1.
◦Run the show configuration failed startup command on startup to display the failed configuration.
◦Workaround: Prior to upgrading to Release 4.0.1, set the logging buffer size to a value of 307200
or greater (logging buffered 307200) .
• dsu mode Command Default— For E3 interfaces on the 4-Port Clear Channel T3/E3 SPA that
interoperate with E3 interfaces on a Cisco 10000 Series router, the default data service unit (DSU) mode
is digital-link. To change the DSU mode to cisco, configure scrambling.
• In Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Software Release 4.1.0, you use the cablelength
short command to set a cable length of 655 feet or shorter for a DS1 link on a 4-Port Channelized T1/E1
SPA. The cablelength short command options are listed as follows:
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:(config-t1)#cablelength short ?
133ft
0-133ft
266ft
134-266ft
399ft
267-399ft
533ft
400-533ft
655ft
534-655ft
However, when using the cablelength short command on a 4-Port Channelized T1/E1 SPA in Cisco
ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Software Release 4.1.0, only the 133ft option (for cable
lengths from 0 to 133 feet) works. The other values that are greater than 133 feet (266, 399, 533, or 655)
all cause the T1 controller to go down. The workaround is to restart the controller after you set the cable
length to 266, 399, 533, or 655 feet. The cablelength long command works correctly
Caveats

You must have a Cisco.com account to log in and access the Cisco Bug Search Tool. If you do not have one,
you can register for an account.
1 In your browser, navigate to the Cisco Bug Search Tool.
2 If you are redirected to a Log In page, enter your registered Cisco.com username and password and then,
click Log In.
3 To search for a specific bug, enter the bug ID in the Search For field and press Enter.
4 To search for bugs related to a specific software release, do the following:
1 In the Product field, choose Series/Model from the drop-down list and then enter the product name in
the text field. If you begin to type the product name, the Cisco Bug Search Tool provides you with a
drop-down list of the top ten matches. If you do not see this product listed, continue typing to narrow
the search results.
2 In the Releases field, enter the release for which you want to see bugs.
The Cisco Bug Search Tool displays a preview of the results of your search below your search criteria.
5 To see more content about a specific bug, you can do the following:
• Mouse over a bug in the preview to display a pop-up with more information about that bug.
• Click on the hyperlinked bug headline to open a page with the detailed bug information.
6 To restrict the results of a search, choose from one or more of the following filters:
Filter
Description
Modified Date
A predefined date range, such as last week or last
six months.
Status
A specific type of bug, such as open or fixed.
Severity
The bug severity level as defined by Cisco. For
definitions of the bug severity levels, see Bug
Search Tool Help & FAQ.
Rating

Open and Resolved Bugs
The open and resolved bugs for this release are accessible through the Cisco Bug Search Tool . This web-based
tool provides you with access to the Cisco bug tracking system, which maintains information about bugs and
vulnerabilities in this product and other Cisco hardware and software products. Within the Cisco Bug Search
Tool, each bug is given a unique identifier (ID) with a pattern of CSCxxNNNNN, where x is any letter (a-z)
and N is any number (0-9). The bug IDs are frequently referenced in Cisco documentation, such as Security
Advisories, Field Notices and other Cisco support documents. Technical Assistance Center (TAC) engineers
or other Cisco staff can also provide you with the ID for a specific bug. The Cisco Bug Search Tool enables
you to filter the bugs so that you only see those in which you are interested.
In addition to being able to search for a specific bug ID, or for all bugs in a product and release, you can filter
the open and/or resolved bugs by one or more of the following criteria:
• Last modified date
• Status, such as fixed (resolved) or open
• Severity
• Support cases
You can save searches that you perform frequently. You can also bookmark the URL for a search and email
the URL for those search results.

RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router# run nvgen -F 1
2 Create a dummy config commit:
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router# config
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router(config)# hostname <hostname>
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:rotuer(config)# commit
RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router(config)# end
3 Force a commit update by using the reload command. Press n when the confirmation prompt appears:
