Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 1 Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 • BGP Prefix Independent Convergence—This provides the ability to converge BGP routes within sub seconds instead of multiple seconds. The Forwarding Information Base (FIB) is updated, independent of a prefix, to converge multiple 100K BGP routes with the occurrence of a single failure. This convergence is applicable to both core and edge failures and with or without MPLS. This fast convergence innovation is unique to Cisco IOS XR Software. • Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)—This supports MPLS protocols, including Traffic Engineering (TE) [including TE-FRR and TE Preferred Path], Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP), Label Distribution Protocol (LDP), Targeted LDP (T-LDP), Differentiated Services (DiffServ)-aware traffic engineering, and Layer 3 Virtual Private Network (L3VPN). • Multicast—This provides comprehensive IP Multicast software including Source Specific Multicast (SSM) and Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) in Sparse Mode only. The Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router also supports Auto-Rendezvous Point (AutoRP), Multiprotocol BGP (MBGP), Multicast Source Discovery Protocol (MSDP), Internet Group Management Protocol Versions 2 and 3 (IGMPv2 and v3), IGMPv2 and v3 snooping, Multicast Listener Discovery (MLD) versions 1 and 2, and MLD snooping versions 1 and 2. • Quality of Service (QOS)—This supports QoS mechanisms including policing, marking, queuing, random and hard traffic dropping, and shaping. Additionally, Cisco IOS XR supports modular QoS command-line interface (MQC). MQC is used to configure various QoS features on various Cisco platforms, including the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router. Supports the following: ◦Class-Based Weighted Fair Queuing (CBWFQ) ◦Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED) ◦Priority Queuing with propagation ◦2-rate 3-color (2R3C) Policing ◦Modular QoS CLI (MQC) ◦4-level Hierarchical-QoS ◦Shared Policy Instances • Manageability—This provides industry-standard management interfaces including modular command-line interface (CLI), Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), and native Extensible Markup Language (XML) interfaces. Includes a comprehensive set of Syslog messages. • Security—This provides comprehensive network security features including Layer 2 and Layer 3 access control lists (ACLs); routing authentications; Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA)/Terminal Access Controller Access Control System (TACACS+), Secure Shell (SSH), Management Plane Protection (MPP) for management plane security, and Simple Network Management Protocol version3 (SNMPv3). Control plane protections integrated into line card Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) include Generalized TTL Security Mechanism (GTSM), RFC 3682, and Dynamic Control Plane Protection (DCPP). • Availability—This supports rich availability features such as fault containment, fault tolerance, fast switchover, link aggregation, nonstop routing for ISIS, LDP, OSPF, and nonstop forwarding (NSF). • Enhanced core competencies: ◦IP fast convergence with Fast Reroute (FRR) support for Intermediate System-to-Intermediate System (IS-IS) ◦IP fast convergence with Fast Reroute (FRR) support for Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 2 Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 System Requirements ◦Path Computation Element (PCE) capability for traffic engineering System Requirements This section describes the system requirements for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Software Release 5.2.2 . For example, when creating or configuring VRF, if the A9K-IVRF-LIC license is not installed before creating a VRF, the following message displays: RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router#LC/0/0/CPU0:Dec 15 17:57:53.653 : rsi_agent[247]: %LICENSE-ASR9K_LICENSE-2-INFRA_VRF_NEEDED : 5 VRF(s) are configured without license A9K-iVRF-LIC in violation of the Software Right To Use Agreement. This feature may be disabled by the system without the appropriate license. Contact Cisco to purchase the license immediately to avoid potential service interruption. For Cisco license support, please contact your Cisco Sales Representative or Customer Service at 800553-NETS (6387) or 408-526-4000. For questions on the program other than ordering, please send e-mail to: [email protected]. Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregration Services Router Right-To-Use (RTU) Licensing Here are on-line locations of the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Right-To-Use (RTU) licensing documents: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/asr9000/hardware/Prodlicense/A9k-AIP-LIC-B.html http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/asr9000/hardware/Prodlicense/A9k-AIP-LIC-E.html Note Layer 3 VPNs are only to be used after you have purchased a license. Cisco will enforce the RTU of L3VPNs in follow on releases. You should contact Cisco, or check the release notes for the follow on release before upgrading for directions on how to install the license as part of the upgrade - otherwise the L3VPN feature may be affected. The activation of VRF capability still requires the use of the appropriate per line card license (A9K-IVRF-LIC / A9K-AIP-LIC-B / A9K-AIP-LIC-E). Please contact your sales representative for more details. Firmware Support To check the firmware code running on the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Router, run the show fpd package command in admin mode. IOS XR Release 5.2.x See the following links for a summary of new and changes features and commands in Release 5.2.x: • Commands Added and Changed in Release 5.2.x Software Features Introduced in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Policy Based Routing Match/Redirect MPLS Packets on Subscriber Interfaces The policy based routing (PBR) match/redirect MPLS packets on subscriber interfaces feature enables the capability to match MPLS labeled packets and redirect those to an external server by re-writing the source and destination IP addresses of the packets. This feature is applicable when the DNS server (an external server) is hidden in the MPLS cloud. The traffic that is entering the MPLS cloud will be matched for a specific destination address and based on it, the new destination will be set. When the packet returns from the DNS server, the source address is changed back to the original source address. For more information on Policy Based Routing Match/Redirect MPLS Packets on Subscriber Interfaces, see Implementing MPLS Traffic Engineering module in Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router MPLS Configuration Guide. For information on the commands used for configuring Policy Based Routing Match/Redirect MPLS Packets on Subscriber Interfaces, see MPLS Traffic Engineering Commands module in Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router MPLS Command Reference. Segment Routing Mapping Server The Mapping Server functionality in Cisco IOS XR Segment Routing centrally assigns prefix-SIDs (prefix segment identifiers) for some or all of the known prefixes. The mapping server feature has three primary functions: A router must be able to act as a mapping server, mapping client, or both. Functionality of a router that acts as a mapping server: Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 48 Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Software Features Introduced in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 • Allows the user to configure SID mapping entries to specify the prefix-SIDs for some or all prefixes. This creates the 'local SID-mapping policy'. • The local SID-mapping policy contains non-overlapping SID-mapping entries. • ISIS advertises the local SID-mapping policy in 'SID/Label Binding TLV'. Functionality of a router that acts as a mapping client: • Receives and parses remotely received SID/Label Binding TLV to create remote SID-mapping entries. • Using the remotely learnt and locally configured mapping entries, construct the non-overlapping consistent active mapping policy. • IGP instance uses the active mapping policy to (re)calculate the prefix-SIDs of some or all prefixes. The Mapping Server automatically manages mapping entries insertion/deletion to always yield an active mapping policy that contains non-overlapping consistent SID-mapping entries. • Locally configured mapping entries must not overlap with each other. • The mapping server takes the locally configured mapping policy as well as remotely learned mapping entries from a particular IGP instance as input, and selects a single mapping entry among overlapping mapping entries according to the preference rules for that IGP instance. The result is an active mapping policy that consists non-overlapping consistent mapping entries. • At steady state, all routers, at least in the same area or level, must have identical active mapping policies. For more information on Segment Routing Mapping Server configuration, see Implementing IS-IS module in Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Routing Configuration Guide. For information on the commands used for configuring Segment Routing Mapping Server functionality, see IS-IS Commands module in Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Routing Command Reference. iBGP Neighbour Peering Support has been added to specify the same autonomous system number for local-as and remote-as commands while configuring neighbor peerings. The makes the peer consider the neighbor to be an iBGP neighbor. OSPF Area Specific Route Redistribution This release supports redistribution of routes originating from specific OSPF areas into other routing protocols like BGP. The OSPF areas are specified, either explicitly or as an area-set, in the route policy. The route policy is thereafter used for route redistribution. BGP Monitoring Protocol The BGP Monitoring Protocol (BMP) feature enables monitoring of BGP speakers (called BMP clients). You can configure a device to function as a BMP server, which monitors either one or several BMP clients, which in turn, has several active peer sessions configured. You can also configure a BMP client to connect to one or more BMP servers. The BMP feature enables configuration of multiple BMP servers (configured as primary servers) to function actively and independent of each other, simultaneously to monitor BMP clients. The BMP provides access to the Adjacent Routing Information Base, Incoming (Adj-RIB-In) table of a peer on an ongoing basis and a periodic dump of certain statistics that the monitoring station can use for further analysis. The BMP provides only pre-policy view of the Adj-RIB-In table of a peer. For more information on BGP Monitoring Protocol commands, see the BGP Commands chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Routing Command Reference. BGP Persistence With BGP Persistence feature, the BGP paths received from a neighbor are held in the BGP table for very long time, even after the BGP session to the neighbor goes down. This feature adds the persistence behavior to the existing BGP graceful-restart behavior. BGP persistence can be thought of as a long-lived graceful restart (LLGR) capability. BGP persistence introduces the capability where the BGP stale routes are retained over a long period of times (sometimes days or weeks) based on configuration. The stale routes will be least preferred during best path calculation. The persistence period ends when either the long-lived-stale time expires or the neighbor sends end-of-rib (EoR) notification. When the persistence ends, all paths that are LLGR capable are deleted. BGP will not pass the updates containing communities 65535:6, 65535:7 to its neighbors until the neighbors negotiate BGP persistence capabilities. The communities 65535:6 and 65535:7 are reserved, BGP behavior maybe unpredictable if you have configured these communities prior to release 5.2.2. We recommend not to configure the communities 65535:6 and 65535:7. The BGP persistence feature is supported only on the following AFIs: • VPNv4 and VPNv6 • RT constraint • Flow spec (IPv4, IPv6, VPNv4 and VPNv6) • Private IPv4 and IPv6 (IPv4/v6 address family inside VRF) For more information on BGP Persistence, see the Implementing BGP chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Routing Configuration Guide. For more information on BGP Persistence commands, see the BGP Commands chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Routing Command Reference. Configuring unicast neighbors In cases where the neighbors are not adjacent, normal EIGRP peering mechanisms cannot be used to exchange EIGRP information. In order to support this type of network, EIGRP provides the neighbor command, which allows remote neighbors to be configured and sessions established though unicast packet transmission. However, as the number of forwarders needing to exchange EIGRP information over the networking cloud increases, unicast EIGRP neighbor definitions may become cumbersome to manage. Each neighbor must be manually configured, resulting in increased operational costs. To better accommodate deployment of these topologies, ease configuration management, and reduce operational costs, the Dynamic Neighbors feature provides support for the dynamic discovery of remote unicast (referred to as “remote neighbors”). Remote neighbor support allows EIGRP peering to one or more remote neighbors, which may not be known at the time the device is configured, thus reducing configuration management. For information on remote unicast neighbors, see the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Routing Configuration Guide. For information on the commands for configuring remote unicast neighbors, see remote-neighbor (unicast) in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Routing Command Reference guide. Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 50 Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Software Features Introduced in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Flow-tag propagation The flow-tag propagation feature enables you to establish a co-relation between route-policies and user-policies. Flow-tag propagation using BGP allows user-side traffic-steering based on routing attributes such as, AS number, prefix lists, community strings and extended communities. Flow-tag is a logical numeric identifier that is distributed through RIB as one of the routing attribute of FIB entry in the FIB lookup table. A flow-tag is instantiated using the 'set' operation from RPL and is referenced in the C3PL PBR policy, where it is associated with actions (policy-rules) against the flow-tag value. For more information on the commands for flow-tag propagation see the BGP Commands module in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Routing Command Reference. Multicast Non-Stop Routing Multicast NSR is enabled by default, however, if any unsupported features like BNG or Snooping are configured, Multicast performs Non-Stop Forwarding (NSF) functionality during failover events. When Multicast NSR is enabled, multicast routing state is synchronized between the active and standby RSPs. Once the synchronization occurs, each of the multicast processes signal the NSR readiness to the system. For the multicast processes to support NSR, the processes must be hot standby compliant. That is, the processes on active and standby RSPs both have to be in synchronization at all times. The active RSP receives packets from the network and makes local decisions while the standby receives packet from the network and synchronizes it with the active RSPs for all the local decisions. Once the state is determined, a check is performed to verify if the states are synchronized. If the states are synchronized, a signal in the form NSR_READY is conveyed to the NSR system. With NSR, in the case of a failover event, routing changes are updated to the forwarding plane immediately. With NSF, there is an NSF hold time delay before routing changes can be updated. Non-Supported Features The following features are unsupported on NG NSR: • IGMP and MLD Snooping • BNG Ethernet Data Plane Internal Loopback The Ethernet Data Plane Loopback feature allows you to test services and throughput of an Ethernet port or a device using a test generator. You can verify the maximum rate of frame transmission with no frame loss. This feature allows bidirectional throughput measurement, and on-demand or out-of-service(intrusive) operation during service turn-ups. There are two types of loopback, namely, external and internal loopback. In the Internal loopback, all the traffic received on the egress interface is blindly injected into the ingress interface. For instance, when the CE device is not managed, then the service provider is responsible for traffic up to the egress interface on the PE device. During testing, in such an instance, the loopback needs to be placed on the PE egress interface and must reflect any packets received from the bridging function. For more information on Ethernet Data Plane Loopback and its limitations, see Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Interface and Hardware Component Configuration Guide Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 51 Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Software Features Introduced in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Need for Multicast Offload The Satellite nV System architecture currently requires the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Router host to process all replications for supported multicast traffic and topology profiles. This is in line with the envisioned port extender functionality of the satellite devices where all protocol processing and forwarding decisions happen on the host to fully utilize the IOS-XR functionalities. With the introduction of support for a wider variety of satellite topologies, the satellites are no longer restricted by a need for direct connection to the hosts. The satellites can be chained to a Dual Host system to form a Ring topology or can be reached over an Layer-2 fabric connection through transport provider EVCs. Note Refer the Configuring the Satellite Network Virtualization (nV) System chapter for more information on Simple Ring and Layer 2 fabric topologies. This use of satellite fabric connections over EVCs or sharing of the same fabric link by a chain of satellite devices has introduced new bandwidth conservation requirements. One such specific case is the forwarding of multicast traffic over satellite ports where the Host currently does all the replication even if all the copies are destined to the ports on the same satellite device. The satellite device is unaware of any multicast group or membership and if multiple receivers are present on the ports of the same satellite, multiple copies of the same packet is sent to the satellite for each of the receivers which can eventually oversubscribe the fabric bandwidth. With the increasing scale of satellites over the new topologies, especially the ring topology, it is evident that the model of Host side replication is not very efficient or scalable. The nV Satellite multicast offload feature is introduced to solve this problem. This feature allows the Host to forward just the pre-replicated multicast streams per multicast route (S,G) to the satellites on the ring and offload the per satellite access port replication to the satellite device itself. The protocols still run on the Cisco IOS-XR Software modules of the Host but the final replication happens locally on the satellite device based on selective download of routes to the satellites. Figure 1: Satellite nV System Multicast Offload Illustration Without offload, Host 1 (assuming that it is the active for both Satellite 1 and Satellite 2) sends 4 copies to receivers 1,2,3 and 4 even if they join the same multicast group, (S1,G1). With offload, Host 1 sends 1 copy and Satellite 1 replicates it twice for receivers 1 and 2 and Satellite 2 replicates it twice for receivers 3 and 4. Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 52 Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Software Features Introduced in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 GRE tunnel over an IPv6 transport network GRE tunnel is supported over an IPv6 transport network. QoS on BNG Pseudowire Headend Subscriber support over Pseudowire Headend (PWHE) interface was introduced in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.0. Further support for QoS features for subscribers on PWHE was introduced in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 as follows: • Support for PPPoE or IPoE subscribers on PWHE sub-interface (with or without SVLAN policy). • QoS support at different levels: • QoS on per-session PPPoE. • QoS on multiple PPPoE sessions associated to the same subscriber line, that is shared policy instance (SPI). • QoS at pseudowire level. • QoS at physical port-level. • Support for features such as service accounting and pQoS for PWHE subscribers. • Support for MPLS EXP marking for PWHE subscriber interfaces. For more information about QoS on BNG Pseudowire Headend, see the Establishing Subscriber Sessions chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Broadband Network Gateway Configuration Guide. Geo Redundancy To provide redundancy for the subscriber sessions, BNG supports Geographical Redundancy across multiple BNGs, without having any L1 or L 2 connectivity between them. The BNG routers may be located in multiple geographical locations, and they have L3 connectivity over a shared core network through IP or MPLS routing. Geo redundancy feature is supported for IPoE DHCP-triggered (IPv4, IPv6 and dual-stack) sessions. For more information about Geo Redundancy feature, see the Establishing Subscriber Sessions chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Broadband Network Gateway Configuration Guide. For complete command reference of this feature, see the Subscriber Commands chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Broadband Network Gateway Command Reference. Make-Before-Break The MPLS TE Make-Before-Break (MBB) explicit path and path option configuration change feature allows tunnels whose explicit paths or path options are modified to be reoptimized without any data loss. Recursive Label Statistics The MPLS static feature is enhanced to provide recursive LSP statistics for labels created using MPLS static configuration. Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 53 Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Software Features Introduced in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 ACL Based Policer ACL based policer is a session based policer that provides secure network access based on session Note The ACL based policer feature is supported only on ASR 9000 Enhanced Ethernet Line Card. DHCP Options in DHCPv4 Server Profile Class Sub-mode DHCP server profile class sub-mode supports configuring DHCP options. DHCPv6 Relay A DHCP relay agent is a host that forwards DHCP packets between clients and servers that do not reside on a shared physical subnet. Relay agent forwarding is distinct from the normal forwarding of an IP router where IP datagrams are switched between networks transparently. The DHCP relay feature is supported under DHCP IPv6 profile relay configuration submode. Proxy Mobile IPv6 Local Mobility Anchor Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) acts as the home agent for a mobile node (MN) in a Proxy Mobile IPv6 domain, which is the network where the mobility management of an MN is handled using the Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) protocol. LMA is the topological anchor point for the MN’s home network prefix(es) and is the entity that manages the MN’s binding state. This module explains how to configure LMA. IPv6 ACL Wildcard Masking From Release 5.2.2, you can supply a wildcard mask with a source or destination address in an access list statement. Wildcard Masking feature is enhanced to include support for an ACL. IPv6 ACL wildcard masking is supported in ASR 9000 Enhanced Ethernet Line Card. DHCPv4 Service Based DHCP Mode Selection The new mode called DHCP base configuration mode is available under DHCP IPv4 configuration mode. The DHCP base mode matches client request's option 60 (class-identifier) data, and selects either the DHCP proxy or the DHCP server mode to process the client requests. Policy Based Routing Match/Redirect MPLS Packets on Subscriber Interfaces The policy based routing (PBR) match/redirect MPLS packets on subscriber interfaces feature enables the capability to match MPLS labeled packets and redirect those to an external server by rewriting the source and destination IP addresses of the packets. This feature is applicable when the DNS server (an external server) is hidden in the MPLS cloud. Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 54 Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Software Features Introduced in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Affinity Failure Delayed LSP Tear The affinity failure delayed label switched path (LSP) tear feature starts a 5 minute timer at the headend once an LSP has hit an affinity failure. If the tunnel is not able to reoptimize within the time frame, it is torn down. Dynamic ICL On Cisco ASR 901 router, any two ports of the 12 available ports can be configured as Inter-chassis Link (ICL). ICL creation is no longer restricted to just two ports, g0/10 and g0/11. This feature eliminates any rewiring requirement when converting a standard Cisco ASR 901 router to satellite. To facilitate this enhancement, at the time of router start-up, all the ports are in UP state and are potential ICL (having the ICL attribute). Once a port is marked as an ICL, other unmapped ports still remain as potential ICL to configure one more ICL port. However, after two ports are marked as ICL, the ICL attribute is removed from all remaining ports. While the ICL ports are being discovered, if any port is mapped as an access port, then its state (UP or Down) is as per the setting made for that port on the host. This access port is no longer a potential ICL. Bidirectional Internet Group Management Protocol Snoop Synchronization for Satellite Dual-Homed System In a dual-homed nV Satellite system, the satellites can align to either of the two satellite hosts acting as a Unicast Active Host. So, each host contains a partially-built IGMP snooping protocol table, based on the joins received from the satellite access ports aligned to that specific host. The Unicast Standby Host does not have the same IGMP snooping information. In the case of a switchover, where the satellites may have to realign to the other host, the Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) snooping protocol has to rebuild the protocol tables again, increasing the overall convergence times. This can be improved by synchronizing the IGMP snoop protocol table states across both hosts so that the switchover is faster. Also, in the case of the nV multicast offload feature, both hosts form an active-active system by forwarding a copy of every offloaded flow from either ends of a ring topology. This requires that the replication list per Route (S, G) be same on both hosts via synchronization for faster convergence and independent choice of designated multicast forwarder from unicast active host. The ICCP Client library provides the IGMP snoop application with an interface to the ICCP functionality and also enables the IGMP snoop application between the participating hosts on the same redundancy group to communicate and synchronize using the ICCP protocol. The IGMP snoop synchronization functionality is available for all the supported satellite hardware types in 5.2.2 release. This is also a prerequisite for faster convergence times in the case of nV multicast offload feature, which is also introduced in 5.2.2 . For more information on nV Multicast Offload feature, see Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router nV System Configuration Guide. Note IGMP Snoop Synchronization is not supported in the cases, where hosts are of different endian types in dual-homed system topology. Satellite Network Virtualization Optical Shelf System Support has been added for Optical Shelf Manager to configure and manage IP over dense wavelength-division multiplexing (IPoDWDM) solution to integrate the IP and optical networks. The Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router is configured as a Cisco IOS XR host in the Satellite Network Virtualization Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 55 Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Software Features Introduced in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 (nV) System. An external Optical Network System (ONS) such as the Cisco 15454 M6 is configured as an optical shelf. The nV satellite system and the optical shelf are connected through short range grey optics in Transponder and Muxponder application topologies to produce a single high-capacity DWDM link using Optical Transport Network (OTN) technology. Performance Monitoring for Satellite Network Virtualization Optical Shelf Support has been added for Performance Monitoring of a Satellite Network Virtualization (nV) Optical Shelf System. It allows historical operational data for the dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) ports to be stored and viewed. The history of almost every statistic available at the Optical and Optical Transport Network (OTN) layers are stored in both 15-minute and 24-hour intervals. The Performance Monitoring Engine UI library provides the CLIs for configuring Performance Monitoring statistics (such as setting threshold values and enabling/disabling threshold crossing alerts (TCAs)). Packet-triggered Routed Subscriber Sessions BNG supports packet-triggered IPv4 and IPv6 routed subscriber sessions. Also, packet-triggered FSOL IPv4 and IPv6 on the same access interface are supported. For more information about Packet-triggered Routed Subscriber Sessions feature, see the Establishing Subscriber Sessions chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Broadband Network Gateway Configuration Guide. For complete command reference of this feature, see the IPoE Commands chapter in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router Broadband Network Gateway Command Reference. Using Test TCP (TTCP) to Test Throughput You can use the Test TCP utility (TTCP) to measure TCP throughput through an IP path. In order to use it, start the receiver on one side of the path, then start the transmitter on the other side. The transmitting side sends a specified number of TCP packets to the receiving side. At the end of the test, the two sides display the number of bytes transmitted and the time elapsed for the packets to pass from one end to the other. You can then use these figures to calculate the actual throughput on the link. The TTCP utility can be effective in determining the actual bit rate of a particular WAN or modem connection. However, you can also use this feature to test the connection speed between any two devices with IP connectivity between them. Since it is most common to evaluate connect speeds in kbps (kilobits per second, or 1000 bits per second) rather that kbps (kilobytes per second, or 1024 bytes per second), we must use the information from TTCP to calculate the bit rate (in kbps). Use the number of bytes received and the transfer time to calculate the actual bit rate for the connection. Calculate the bit rate by converting the number of bytes into bits and then divide this by the time for the transfer. For example, if the host received 409600 bytes in 84.94 seconds, you can calculate the bit rate to be (409600 bytes * 8 bits per byte) divided by 84.94 seconds=38577 bps or 38.577 kbps. For more information on the commands for configuring TTCP, see the TTCP Commands module in the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router System Monitoring Command Reference guide. Data Collection Manager Cisco Data Collection Manager (DCM) is an efficient and reliable data collection agent that is embedded in managed devices, such as routers and switches. Dual Stack Lite on VSM The Dual Stack Lite (DS-Lite) feature enables legacy IPv4 hosts and server communication over both IPv4 and IPv6 networks. Also, IPv4 hosts may need to access IPv4 internet over an IPv6 access network. The IPv4 hosts will have private addresses which need to have network address translation (NAT) completed before reaching the IPv4 internet. From Release 5.2.2 onwards, Cisco ASR 9000 routers support DS-Lite on VSM. For more information about the HA feature, see the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router CGv6 Configuration Guide. For more information on CLIs, see the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Router CGv6 Command Reference. Traffic Flow Mirroring on VSM The Traffic Flow Mirroring feature monitors traffic passing through a VSM module. This feature helps the user to debug and analyze packets that have issues related to network address translation (NAT44). Mapping of Address and Port-Encapsulation Mode on VSM Mapping of Address and Port-Encapsulation Mode (MAP-E) is a CGN solution that enables a service provider to enable IPv4 services to IPv6 (customer) sites to which it provides customer premise equipment (CPE). This approach utilizes stateless IPv4-in-IPv6 encapsulation to transit IPv6-enabled network infrastructure. Mapping of Address and Port-Translation Mode on VSM Mapping of Address and Port-Translation Mode (MAP-T) is a CGN solution that enables IPv4-only clients to communicate with IPv6-only resources using address and packet translation. At the same start time, not more than 10 operations per second should be scheduled. We recommend using the start after configuration. Setting the frequency to less than 60 seconds will increase the number of packets sent. But this could negatively impact the performance of IP SLA operation when scheduled operations have same start time. Note • IP SLA is not HA capable. • Consider the following guidelines before configuring the frequency, timeout, and threshold commands. ◦For the UDP and ICMP jitter operation, the following guidelines are recommended: • frequency > timeout + 2 seconds + num_packets * packet_interval • timeout > rtt_threshold • num_packet > loss_threshold ◦For all other IP SLAs operations, the following configuration guideline is recommended: ◦frequency > timeout > rtt_threshold Software Feature Enhancements These software feature enhancements are introduced in Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2. • For BNG over Pseudowire Headend (PWHE): • When service accounting is enabled, an extra four bytes per packet get added because of the internal VC label that gets added when the packet enters the ingress line card (LC). This is applicable only for egress direction. • User can configure same SPI instance (with different policy-maps attached) on the sub-interface of PWHE pin-down members as well as on the subscriber interface. In this scenario, the subscriber sessions come up in spite of having the same SPI instance on the pin-down member of PWHE. • BNG dynamic policy-map editing—Class-map actions can now be edited and also be newly added, even while the sessions are up. • BNG commands: ◦The match (class-map) command was modified to add new keyword, service-name, to match service-name in class-map type subscriber. The subscriber manager accounting interim was introduced to influence interim interval randomization for accounting. • Fragmentation support for BNG PPPoE subscriber sessions. Workaround: Reduce num of polling stations & increase timeout in snmp query. • CSCuo52312 Basic Description: snmpwalk; snmpbulkwalk is timing out on rfc-1213 mib Symptom External host running snmpwalk on ipRouteTable (RFC-1213-MIB) appears to fail (stops returning entries). Conditions: The chances of observing Symptoms increases with the size of the route table and the number of snmpwalk(s) run in parallel. Workaround: Terminate all walks and allow the internal RIB route table snmp cache to timeout (between 15 and 60 seconds). Conditions: Polling snesormib and powermib. Workaround: None. • CSCup53622 Basic Description: BFD w/ fast keep alive flaps on sat access when ICL member added/removed Symptom Traffic Impact of 2-6 Sec on SAT Access, Bundle ICL - Mem Added/removed Conditions: • Satellite access ports with ICL bundle mode • BFD running on satellite access ports at fast keep alive (eg 100ms x 3 timeout) • ICL bundle membership is changed (member is added or removed) Note that traffic impact of 2-6 seconds is because BFD flaps and then causes subsequent higher layer traffic convergence. Without BFD being used, the actual traffic impact during a ICL bundle membership addition/ deletion is still sub-second. Further more, if instead of bundle membership configuration change, its just a regular ICL bundle failover then the traffic impact is well below sub-second (typically <200ms altough may depend on type of satellite being used). Workaround: 1 Use slower BFD keep alive interval (for example 300ms x 3) when using BFD over satellite access ports with ICL bundles. Basically the BFD rate should be such that BFD times out slower than the layer 1/ bundle re-convergence time. 2 Do not change bundle membership configuration during live operation. This is the type of operation which is ideally performed during a maintenance window for a high availability service. Note that this applies only to bundle membership configuration change. A regular bundle failover (due to link fail) operates much faster and hence will not trigger BFD flaps even if BFD is set to 100ms x 3. So if customer really desires fast BFD timeout (such as 100ms x 3) over a satellite access port with ICL bundles, that can still be supported as long as the bundle membership configuration is not changed during live operation. • CSCuq08517 Basic Description: MPLS-TC-STD-MIB slow oid when doing snmpwalk from multiple server Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 67 Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Caveats Symptom MPLS-TC-STD-MIB slow oid when doing snmpwalk from multiple server . Conditions: With scale number of tunnel, MPLS-TC-STD-MIB slow oid when doing snmpwalk from multiple server. mpls_te_mib_get_bulk_output_stats takes very long time to retrieve stats. Workaround: Configure following CLI to disable midpoints stats: mpls traffic-eng mib midstats disable • CSCuq08895 Basic Description: VSM is dropping fragmented packets as MDF_DROP_EGR_PORT_NO_MATCH. Symptom CGN service traffic gets dropped in VSM NP with counter "MDF_DROP_EGR_PORT_NO_MATCH". Conditions: If ingress LC interface MTU is smaller than VSM physical interface MTU then packets gets fragmented on VSM NP. These fragmented packets are dropped in VSM NP and not forwarded to CGv6 APP. Workaround: VSM physical interface MTU should be set to ingress LC interface MTU + 4. This will avoid fragmentation on VSM. • CSCuq38227 Basic Description: SECURITY-SSHD-3-ERR_SYSDB_SET: unable to set sysdb:multi ssh sessions Symptom On performing multiple ssh sessions from multiple servers in a loop. The following message flooding on the console are seen. RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:Aug 13 11:37:48.220 pst: SSHD_[65776]: %SECURITY-SSHD-3-ERR_GENERAL : TTY Id does not match with any allocated TTY Id RP/0/RSP0/CPU0Aug 12 15:09:08.816 pst: SSHD_[65796]: %SECURITY-SSHD-3-ERR_SYSDB_SET : sysdb_item_set failed for tuple (null) in function addrem_ssh_info_tuple() Conditions: On Performing simultaneous and multiple ssh sessions from servers(3 ssh sessions from 2 servers - total 6 sessions) Workaround: 1 Running one sessions at a time without loop. 2 Run multiple sessions without running them in a loop. • CSCuo63064 Basic Description: NAT44 fragments on VSM are dropped with DROP_FRM_FRM_ERR_XAUI9 error. Symptom Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 68 Release Notes for Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers for Cisco IOS XR Software Release 5.2.2 Upgrading Cisco IOS XR Software NAT44 fragments on VSM dropped are with DROP_FRM_FRM_ERR_XAUI9 error Conditions: Send packets with size > 1514 bytes Workaround: Increase the mtu on the forge interfaces to match the ingress interface mtu + 4. Caveats Specific to the ASR 9001 Router • CSCup05895 Basic Description: ASR9001 cluster ICL links go to error disabled state. Symptom ASR9001 Cluster EOBC ports (ICL) getting error disabled and not able to recover. Conditions: This defect is seen when Primary and Backup racks are separated over an L2 Cloud where the ICLs and IRLs are connected across an xconnect. Trigger is seen as L2VPN going down and up due to a core link failure in L2 cloud. The issue is also seen during a software upgrade of cluster in this scenario. Workaround: process restart cluster_clm_rp. Upgrading Cisco IOS XR Software Cisco IOS XR Software is installed and activated from modular packages, allowing specific features or software patches to be installed, upgraded, or downgraded without affecting unrelated processes. Software packages can be upgraded or downgraded on all supported card types, or on a single card (node). Software packages are installed from package installation envelope (PIE) files that contain one or more software components. In such situations, to avoid configuration loss during upgrade, the following steps can be optionally done before activating packages: 1 Clear the NVGEN cache: RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router# run nvgen -F 1 2 Create a dummy config commit: RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router# config RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router(config)# hostname <hostname> RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:rotuer(config)# commit RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router(config)# end 3 Force a commit update by using the reload command. Press n when the confirmation prompt appears: RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router# reload Updating Commit Database. Please wait...[OK] Proceed with reload? [confirm] 4 Press n In some cases other activity may preclude a reload. The following message may display: RP/0/RSP0/CPU0:router# reload Preparing system for backup. This may take a few minutes ............System configuration backup in progress [Retry later] If you receive this message wait and then retry the command after some time.
