‘Developing academic identity:
differences in becoming teachers and researchers’

Within the university there are implicit and explicit
messages about research and teaching that
academics should pursue - as well as about how
and whether they should engage in research or
teaching development.
These messages can be ambiguous, and
sometimes contradictory.
This seminar draws on part of a study designed to
explore how academics interpret such institutional
messages in forming an academic identity.
