ESW Seminar Series CIRCLETS Monday 4th October, 5 - 6.30pm Room 101, Fulton Speakers Geoff Wake, University of Manchester Andy Noyes, University of Nottingham Pat Drake, University of Sussex ____________________________________ This seminar will examine three aspects of GCSE mathematics, drawing on the findings and experiences from the Evaluating Mathematics Pathways (EMP) project which explores the manageability and impact of a range of possible new mathematics qualifications in the 14-19 age range. * Drawing on scripts from 100 students at grades A and C higher tier in 2009, Geoff Wake explores how students performed in algebra. * Pat Drake explores the continuities and schisms in mathematics pathways at the KS4 / post-16 interface. * Andy Noyes presents some of the tensions and systematic challenges in discussing, designing and delivering changes to GCSE mathematics.
