Education research centre at Sussex to launch new series of books on school
strategy
The Centre for Teaching and Learning Research (CTLR) at the University of Sussex is one of three
hosts launching English, Language and Literacy 3 to 19: Principles and Proposals, a series of 10
booklets to be published electronically – as well as in print - by the United Kingdom Literacy
Association and Owen Education, an independent school-improvement agency.
Drawing on seminal research and curriculum-development work carried out over a number of years,
the aim of the booklets is to inspire and inform debate about school strategy. Themes covered include
talk, reading, writing, grammar, drama and media education across the age range. They also offer
robust critiques of some aspects of the new National Curriculum for English and its associated
assessment arrangements, and propose practical alternatives.
